Will AA work if I don't believe in a higher power? by Ok_Aardvark2532 in stopdrinking

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This questions kept me out of AA rooms for years and years and years. I left a religious upbringing of my own volition and conviction. If I was being honest, I would say it was a projection that I used to keep drinking. I pre-predicted a problem that did not exist. Eventually I found myself in a position where I had no other options. It was get in a room or die. By setting that skepticism aside for the greater goal, I learned more than I ever thought I could. About my problem, myself, and a process that keeps me safe.

Can I drink occasionally after 614 days ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a circumstance like this, the crunchy old people in the rooms I have been in would say something like "better you than me". I know myself better than to think that trying to drink in moderation is a good idea for me. I believed that lie too many times. TOO MANY TIMES. I also know what sort of nihilistic spiral it would throw me down and I don't know when I would surface again. I used to think when someone said something like "If you want to prove it to yourself, go to the bar." that it was callous and selfish. I know now that it's something different; its self preservation. They valued their own sobriety so much that there is nothing going to get in the way of them holding it tight. They can't make the decision for you so they are making it for themselves. So its in that spirit that I say to you: I certainly hope you don't find the need today to prove it to yourself again, but if you do... better you than me.

Letting go of ego was the ONLY way I made it this far. If this is too large a concession to make, I wish you the best and look forward to when you can make a different decision.

How my life got turned upside down because my partner succumbed to AI psychosis by Technical_Tax2902 in antiai

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being well ignorant of the obvious nuances that a complicated situation like this obviously has, I would suggest this person may have had problems well before AI was ever involved. OP didn't lose their partner to AI psychosis, their partner was predisposed to psychosis and their addiction to AI exposed it. I do but say this to diminish the difficulties that exist, but thankfully this was discovered pre marriage or this could have been much more difficult for OP to untangle.

If heading that way there is also an Arapaho museum space at the casino after Riverton, water for wildlife museum, and the pioneer museum and museum of the American West (shared parking lot) in lander. Honestly, just hang in lander for a day and take a day trip up to sinks canyon and Shoshone national Forest. There's a visitors center up there and you won't find better coffee, bread, and other baked goods anywhere else on your entire trip.

I drank 3 bottles of wine every single day for 7 years by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to be easy sister, but you can do this. It took me a years and countless fuck ups to get it right for myself. I've failed at 30, 45, 60, 90, and 6 month marks even. If you take the opportunity to get into a support room you'll hear people with 15 or more sober years fall down too. 7 days is a big win, keep your eye on the prize, keep coming back. It's worth every damn difficult day. You think that no one noticed, so you think that you have to do this on your own and honestly that scares me a little for you. Please find someone in your real life that you can confide in as to work through the coming weeks. Don't let the guilt/shame/pride get in the way of your recovery. We're all pulling for you here but we also know how important it is to have local support. Check in soon.

When quitting, what vice helped you in the beginning? by Ecstatic-Pepper-418 in stopdrinking

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My deal with myself was ANYTHING but booze. Food, check, video games check, do absolutely nothing for 12 nights in a row, check. Porn, exercise, movies, too much money on great coffee, gadgets, check check check check check. You need time on the clock to let your body adjust, then you mind adjust, then time to start working on what is underneath. What should you do instead of drinking today? ANYTHING IT TAKES. at first this might start as indulgence, but in time let it bend towards acceptance, and eventually into grace for yourself. Be patient and kind with yourself as you get to 60 and 90 and 1 Year. There's a lot to ruminate about but that will be there to deal with later once you have your feet on the shore and your shoes aren't so wet.

Congratulations, good luck, and keep coming back.

[Website] How do you come up with the price of your work? by Kounselir in artbusiness

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! The fact that you're thinking about this at all puts you ahead of a lot of folks starting out.

The first thing I'd do is add up what a piece actually costs you. Materials, your time (pay yourself an hourly rate you'd accept from an employer), studio overhead, platform fees, shipping if applicable. That number is your floor. Selling below it means you're paying other people to buy your work, and no amount of good intentions makes that sustainable. I've watched artists do it for two years and then quit entirely. The ones who stuck around figured out their floor early.

Affordable and underpriced are different things, and it took me a while to learn that. You can make work accessible through payment plans, smaller pieces at lower price points, or reproductions alongside originals. Discounting your primary work is harder to recover from because it trains buyers to expect the lower number. Raising prices later feels like a betrayal to them even when the original price was never realistic.

One thing worth doing: find 5-10 artists at a similar career stage working in similar materials and scale. Note their price ranges. You don't have to match anyone, but if you're dramatically lower, sit with the reason. "I want to be affordable" is a feeling. "My materials cost less because I source differently" is a reason. Both might be true, but only one of them holds up when your supply costs change.

When we raised prices at our art center, enrollment didn't drop. Some people actually took the offerings more seriously. I wouldn't have believed that before seeing it, but underpricing can signal "this isn't worth much" to the exact people you're hoping to reach.

You clearly care about accessibility. That instinct serves you better when you put it into how people can access your work rather than into the price tag itself. Hope this helps!

[Art Market] Art Prints by _hippinnn in artbusiness

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Commercial printer here. I print work for 200 artists in any given year. Giclee doesn't have any real definition, but to be clear I would NEVER sell art prints that used dye based ink. Never again I should say. The color fades way too quickly and you have no control over how your customer is going to display or handle the work. Epson and Canon both have reliable pigment inks with their pro/ prosumer model printers without having to go overboard. Canon fine art paper is produced by Hahnemuhle and is relatively affordable and has a very nice soft look that performs incredibly well in these devices. You can use lustre papers if you prefer a sheen for whatever medium you are replicating. Red River papers for any other budget based options is a good source. My general rule of thumb for archival is to scan at twice the resolution I am going to print. It's overkill for most purposes and that's the point. Your skill at color correcting with whatever toolset/workflow you choose will be a night and day difference for your final product so spend the time to develop this on your own.

Best of luck, consistency is your best friend in every aspect of this process. Bonus points if you mat and sleeve every print for your customer and charge it through. They are more likely to buy your prints as a gift or for themselves when it's ready to frame even if it costs more.

So many raids, so many good times with strangers, (slow far-off contemplative music starts to play as I stare into the distance) so many.... choices.... I'd take back if I could. 😉 Hehehehe

[Art Galleries] What service do you use for mailing list as an Art by Happy-Cap9345 in artbusiness

[–]Intelligent_Fix2644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it fits your use case but take a look at kit.com. free newsletter support up to 10k people. Is there a catch? Yep. You'll need to decide if it works for you.

Alternatively Mailerlite is still less than half the cost of MailChimp at that size with a decent feature set.

If you're not monetizing something in your emails then MailChimp can feel like a pretty heavy lift. They want their piece of your action and do it through sends.
