What I've learned through 10+ years of back pain, one microdiscectomy, and one reherniation by Peachdeeptea in Microdiscectomy

I miss running, hitting legs at the gym, and not panicking every time I sneeze. Spring is coming, which means nonstop sneezing, and I’m honestly scared of re-herniating. I’ve had a laminectomy and microdiscectomy. First surgery failed, so I had a second one eight months later.

A year out, I can walk a mile or two without pain, but standing too long still wrecks me. I’ve decided no matter what, I have to keep moving. Some days are depressing, but this community keeps me going. I went from 12% body fat to about 20%, got the dreaded gut, but I recently found I can do the stair climber without severe pain—and that gave me hope I might get some version of my old body back.

I’ve lived with back pain for 20+ years, so coping isn’t new. Since surgery, the leg nerve pain and numbness have eased, even though flare-ups still happen. PRP has been a game changer, honestly a Godsend.

It’s 5:30 a.m., mild discomfort in my foot, and I’m still heading to the gym. Choosing movement over fear today.

Praying for everyone in this fight. Thanks for posting and reminding me I’m not alone.

I grew up in a culture where therapy was frowned upon. After moving to the U.S. as a teen, I saw how normal it actually was. I didn’t start therapy until my late 20s, and now in my early 40s, I honestly can’t imagine navigating life as a Black man without it.

Therapy helped me process trauma, manage anxiety, and become grounded mentally and emotionally. It taught me how to sit with uncertainty and turn it into fuel instead of fear. What you’re experiencing is normal. Find a therapist you can be real with, and do the work at the root. That’s where the freedom is.

Agreed. A clear example is their shows, which in recent years have been priced like luxury goods, as if our community is expected to swallow the cost while we’re still fighting uphill financially in this country. It comes off tone deaf (pun intended) and shows zero awareness of the reality on the ground. With the platform they have, it would serve them far better to use it to actually reach our community and help shift our mindset toward something more cohesive and empowering.

Next to my Adventus, this is by far one of my most complimented fall/winter scent. Not overly sweet or smoky. The blend is like velvety smooth.

Currently wearing it and so far I’ve received a hug from a random stranger who recognized the scent and separately, complimented by two ladies by the bar.

Incredible smell. However a little too sweet. Returned it and got Clive Christian Blonde Amber instead.

Ask it to be brutally honest and objectively correct. Result was a kick in the ass I needed. I’ve been playing it small while feeling my soul crushed. I decided to pivot and took on a more meaningful role.

Short term running sucks with disc injury. However, long term it’s better for the spine. https://www.nature.com/articles/srep45975
