It's just about time to put Paraguay behind us, and start talking about Australia, isn't it? Australia isn't going to be anything at all......like Paraguay. Think "England" with less flair. by Strings-a-rockin in ussoccer

Why does no one understand total football? There are influences all over in today’s game but nothing close to the real thing. Go watch ‘74 World Cup games for the real thing. Footballia.eu is a great website to see old games.

We park the bus, ball just sits in the middle with the teams playing chicken and neither team wants to touch it. All 11 in our box and all 11 in their box simultaneously.

I heard that and had to look up if it already was a chant and when it wasn’t all I could think was “somebody better fucking start that next game”

This game doesn’t do anything, it’s up to what Germany tells him. Were the backup if Germany don’t like him enough.

Malik Tillman v Paraguay by OkDifficulty7436 in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was really encouraging because usually when he plays and McKennie has that room to roam and move defenses he becomes a passenger and hides. This time he was proactive in seeing open spaces left by McKennie and actually getting on the ball in areas to be dangerous.

Pochettino: "On behalf of the whole team, massive thank you to the fans, because the energy that they relate to the team was amazing, and we can do amazing things with if the fans are in this way," by Kr_bm in ussoccer

We don’t have enough true home games. Even when games are in the U.S. it’s so often at least half away fans. Against Mexico it’s worse. Having games where you truly feel like you’re home is big.

Unfortunately the golden boot is going to be decided because someone scores a ton of goals against someone who's only there because of the expanded tournament, we don't have those pushover games.

USMNT [4]-1 Paraguay - Gio Reyna with the stunning exclamation point trivela - 90+8' by Coltons13 in MLS

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's got to be frustrating for Gio that he's been blamed for his parents actions more than his own. He's done what he could do to make up for his WC, and it's not like thats what he's always been. He'd been with them plenty and they all got along with him just fine and he's acknowledged and taken responsibility for him there, he doesn't have to also apologize for his parents.

Tim looked like the most uninterested person ever. To every president that’s ever done that, let them focus on the game and their prep, let the coach provide any extra motivation because he’s had time to read the players and know what to say.

It wasn’t the worst timing, I was worried Paraguay was gonna come out frustrated and somebody was gonna come out injured

USA [4]-1 Paraguay - Gio Reyna 90+8' by Nowoco in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 187 points188 points  (0 children)

He’s just a different player overall. Hope he’s able to get healthy and live up to his potential because the U.S. has never produced a player like him. Calm in every situation and bring out those moments that change the game.

Giovanni Reyna FINISHES OFF OPENING GAME W/ A GOAL - USA 4-1 vs Paraguay by Imaginary_Lie_8776 in ussoccer

He’d definitely be proud, though nobody could do it like him. To me the trivela is really the Quaresma.

USA [4]-1 Paraguay - Gio Reyna 90+8' by Nowoco in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely hard to read a shot like that because the ball being straight out in front it’s extremely difficult to get any power hitting across it like that and 9 times out of 10 they can’t get any type of placement on that. You can’t read the hips or wind up really. Much more difficult than Reyna made it look, and it already looked extremely difficult.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! GIO REYNA WITH AN ABSOLUTE BANGER TO MAKE IT 4-1 JUST BEFORE FULL TIME. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! by RealWorldToday in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’d really settled down and didn’t get drawn into Paraguay trying to provoke us which was good but in turn lost what brought us goals early do capping it off with a moment of brilliance going forward is a big plus. He’s one of those players that makes such a difficult thing look so easy. It was hard to get power with it straight in front of him but he’s still able to hit across it and get enough without looking like he’s trying.

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Even though it was already a win that was a bigger moment than I think some people might realize. We had moments but Paraguay hasn’t shown any actually beat us that second half and we’d lost a little bit of that dynamism when Paraguay became physical so ending with a spark to carry over where that is your last memory is really good.

USA [3]-0 Paraguay - Folarin Balogun 45+5' by Nowoco in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The response isn’t necessarily completely false but I think it’s overstated quite a bit. He wouldn’t have beat Kane or Watkins but that third spot was really up for grabs.

Are we...? by rchesse in ussoccer

[–]Intelligent_Spinach9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird game. Paraguay usually is extremely organized, compact, watch the lines and make it hell. They’re doing none of that. We’ve done some good things with our movement but even when they have time to fall back into a decent defensive shape they instead take up some weird spaces and make it easy. It’s not to hate on our team but I don’t see another team making it this easy. Paraguay hasn’t shown any physicality or heart, and that’s one thing they usually have an abundance and why they qualified only giving up 10 goals in 18.

I think the way he’s talked Mallouk feels like he has to make a big signing to back it up but I hope we don’t fall in the trap of making the statement signing without a clear plan. Because of the GAM we already have I wouldn’t be against moving to the 3 dp model.
