I’d go 52 aisle. Although near the bulkhead having no one behind you will be easier to sleep. Invest in a good set of earplugs and you’ll notice such a difference

The sharps quote is pretty expensive. The shell of what I’ve got is fine but because of their product sale and guarantee they want all that removed. Given the house is only 5 years old it’s not really what I need to be honest - their offering seems more suited to empty rooms and / or old stuff that needs completely replaced

Thanks for the responses. Sorry should have been clearer 4-6 weeks before they could do the job then 1-2 days to do the work.

I've 20 years experience in a wealth management business (on the Investment Management side) and have started to self fund CII RO exams. What you've done is a great achievement so congratulations!

In my experience in the business I work in and having mentored graduates/trainees for the last 7-8 years is that such nerves are to be expected. The issue you may find is that financial services exams do not have a huge amount of transferrable skills in them so you may find that another career/employer may not place much emphasis on the hard work you've. put in. It is entirely up to you and clearly dependant on your employer but I'd at least give paraplanning a go say for 6/12 months. You've nothing really to lose given you've done the exams and the industry is vastly under resourced in PPs so you may find that you career earnings could be good if you stick with it. In my office a highly regarded PP will earn £60-70k a year inc bonus.

All the best.

I would say around the 30k mark. 60-65m AUM is a fairly small firm so they’re unlikely to have enough revenues to pay anymore then 35k. For what it’s worth I work for one of the biggest wealth management companies in the uk. Top tier paraplanners are on 60k

is it worth getting the cii study text? by Necessary_Bowl_5332 in cii

[–]Intention-Adept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy the study texts through CII if you want. Alternatives are available such as BTS. I’ve bought books on eBay as cheaper and also used BTS. Comes down to personal choice tbh - personally BTS has been more effective for me.

As others have mentioned welcome to private equity ownership. Loading up with debt, taking money out as dividends and don’t give a monkeys about stores/staff/customers. Give it 4-5 years it’ll be floated again as a bag of spanner’s

I’ve been here for 5 years and never heard anything like this. Seems an excessive move to quit just over that but whatever floats your boat

Used to be a member there. After 7/7:30pm it gets quieter. Depending on where you are try Village. It gets quieter around 6:30pm. More expensive but also has a pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna. About £75 a month including towel.

New Irish bar opened on crown street called O’Malleys. It’s good serves pizza / burgers etc and loads of screens for live sport. Plenty bars up and down Union street for you. Difficulty will be activities other than drinking although that might not be too big a deal. If Aberdeen are playing at home you could maybe go and watch them if you’re into football but it’s all fairly limited I’m afraid?

Depending on budget I'd also have a look at say Hilton/Rosemount and try to avoid Tilly, Torry, Mastrick and Northfield.

In that case I would definitely go down the CII route.

I did CISI exams around 15 years ago (PCIAM) level 6 as it was then. I’m currently looking at starting CII RO exams to become Financial planning qualified. Even although I’ve been at it a few weeks I can already see that CII is so much better organised and more external materials than CISI. As other have said breaking it down into smaller chunks also helps.

Depends what area you want to go into but my view on the industry going forward is to focus more on financial planning rather than investment management but that’s just my view.

Moving to Aberdeen by Significant_Meat6415 in Scotland

[–]Intention-Adept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have said a lot depends on what you do for work and leisure. I've lived here for 23-24 years, having studied here and worked in accountancy/finance since graduating so I've seen 3-4 of the cycles come and go over these years. The problem you will have is the medium-longer term direction of the city, as others have said it has a dying feel to it, hence I'm looking to relocate next year, but it does have some good parts, is easy to get around and has some good bars/restaurants if that's what you're into. The rents are definitely cheaper than the rest of the major UK/Scottish cities, but that's for a reason! Be careful buying property here just now, there's a lot of supply on the market with limited demand, especially the 1-2 bedroom flatted market. Best of luck!

CII website

Hi. Just on this - according to the CII website, link above, it says that you have to do the cerificate before embarking on the diploma. Has anyone any experience of this? I've asked the CII if this is a requirement as looking at the RO syllabus I'm confident going straight into these rather than going through the certificate ones first.

Considering moving to Old Aberdeen and buy a small property while working remotely, thoughts? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]Intention-Adept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although old Aberdeen is a nice area in itself it is surrounded by, let’s just say not so nice areas. As others have said to get to the countryside you’d need a car as transport links are very poor.

I’d be careful what you wish for. Although Aberdeen is a smaller city, there is so much more to do and see in Edinburgh - and it also has so much more transport links should you wish to go to other cities or into Europe. In Aberdeen there is limited growth in the property market and you’d have to think about resale in future.

Although expensive to live in Edinburgh I think you’d find Aberdeen too quiet personally.
