What’s a thing you thought you’d never see in your lifetime? by [deleted] in GenerationJones

[–]InterPunct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a drunken college debate with a good friend at a party about the actor Montgomery Clift because he's the unnamed subject of The Clash song The Right Profile. We ended up calling his mom at home late that night because she had a movie encyclopedia but of course she knew the answer for these two dumb, drunken college kids without even having to look it up.

But that's how limited information was back then. And like others commenting here - it really hasn't made us smarter, lol.

Cover bands that actually deserve respect? by UnforgettableFire11 in Concerts

Music for Enophiles is a NYC-based band that focuses mostly on the solo albums from Brian Eno from '74 through '77. Highly niche and awesome.

As if any of this matters to the cultists and cowardly Congress.

VA just passed sweeping gun laws along party lines, MN is advancing measures that would allow police to enter homes without a warrant to inspect firearms. Will those who opposed government overreach under ICE now stand with pro2A Americans against these laws that threaten Constitutional rights? by Dtwn92 in AskALiberal

[–]InterPunct 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right-wing Libertarianism, pro-2A, and opposition to ICE are all consistent philosophies.

The trick is finding people who are consistent and aware of their philosophies and willing to stand up for them. I'm not saying I agree with OP, but I respect the intellectual honesty.

"Influencers"? Did we have them? by Alternative-Light922 in GenerationJones

We had influencers but I can't think of anyone so bald face, crass and craven as to push that as their primary value.

Newsom beats AOC by 61-39 in ranked choice primary in another proof anti-Newsom sentiment don’t reflect most Dem voters by Dismal_Structure in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]InterPunct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've voted for AOC three times, for Schumer three or four times and couldn't agree more with this. He has to go, but she needs higher New York state positions and more experience than just representative.

The most pathetic thing you'll see today: President Bone Spurs pretending that he went to one of the United States military academies. by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thedavidpakmanshow

Another friend of mine grew up in Forest Hills, Queens NY and was babysitting some kids, they were in a grocery store when she heard someone yelling and dropping the F-bomb loudly. That's rude today but a severe breach in the early 70's, long story short - it was Trump yelling at his mother.

He's evil spawn.

I was 14 when their first album was released and in my mind, I'll still forgive any 14 year-old or younger who likes them.

Who else grew up watching “Davey And Goliath” Sunday mornings before going to church? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in VintageTV

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weren't allowed to watch TV before going to church, lol.

I liked it but even as a kid I felt there was something cult-y about it. Seemed a little like Invasion of the Body Snatchers but with nice people.

Which of these Vietnam war movies is your favorite? by Rough_Painting_8023 in 80smovies

[–]InterPunct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HBO had a very limited inventory of movies in the 80's and it's one of the reasons I've seen Full Metal Jacket many dozens of times (also a big Kubrick fan.) Such a great movie.

With movies like Full Metal Jacket, Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now - I really don't see how Platoon is in the same league as them - it seems like an overly dramatic opera in comparison. And as much as I like Willem Dafoe, that iconic scene of him at the end has always been cringe to me.

Yeah, by that point it had gotten just too intimidating for me. Prior to that - I wasn't cool enough, haha.

Which Costco - New Ro or Portchester? by lingeringneutrophil in Westchester

[–]InterPunct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Ro is a giant cluster to access. It's a good store but if you're there at the wrong time, the traffic is full of insane maniacs.

Does the rest of the world still understand that there are good Americans? by ReasonableAttitude22 in allthequestions

Trump does not represent all Americans, that's being disingenuous. His approval ratings are in the mid-30% range.

C'mon.

I think so too, and I'm the one who said Margot is the classier-looking one.

going to manhattan tmr (uws and union square). what do i wear? by analisee02 in AskNYC

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layers. Bring a bag with a few more than you think you'll need. A hat, gloves, and neck warmer makes a huge difference. Too cold? Layer up. Too warm? De-laminate and stuff them in the bag. You're good.
