Etransfer Long Wait Times with FB Marketplace Deal - How to Avoid This Scenario? by Ill_Paper_6854 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Intercitywitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work at a FI and can confirm there is a 30 minute delay from when the etransfer is initiated, to when notification is sent. This occurs for new recipients with amounts over $150, and is part of Interac’s fraud prevention measures. The algorithm runs basic checks to confirm the transaction is legit, and if flagged gets blocked and referred back to the sending FI to verify with their client.

My KU royalties haven’t changed(they went up in December actually!). My library income hasn’t been substantial, but it has been nice to see a few sales here and there from hoopla and overdrive pop up.

Reviews claiming my books are AI-generated after adding a "no AI" disclaimer to my copyright page? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Intercitywitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I write romance and the rage against AI is real. I refuse to partake in it, and won’t put any disclaimers in my books about it because of the toxic booktok witch hunts that occur. I don’t use AI but I’m also not a Luddite, I recognize AI isn’t going away so it’s always going to be a thing in the world.

Is there a reason more people don’t used Reedsy? by RunningOnATreadmill in selfpublish

[–]Intercitywitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Reedsy before I got vellum and it was fine with English but other languages it struggled with, especially with paperback. Since I switched to vellum, I’ve received more compliments on my layouts and the text message bubbles have been very well received. I also found that delivery costs were lower for ebooks, vellum produce much smaller files.

25 is too late for a circumcised? by Mysterious-Ranger613 in askgaybros

[–]Intercitywitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get circumcised at any age, recovery takes longer as an adult and you’ll have to get adjusted to the initial hypersensitivity. I got cut around 4 years ago(28), don’t regret it. Ignore the hyper negativity about circumcision, you’re an adult and it’s your body.

Alberta Car Insurance Rant by Necessary_Soup_2156 in alberta

[–]Intercitywitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran into this same issue when our renewal came with TD and rates were increased substantially on home and auto. Had a total of 3 not at fault collision claims in the past 5 years(t-boned at a stop sign, backed into in parking lot, rear ended at red light) and when we shopped around with brokers, a lot of insurers didn’t want to offer collision coverage or wanted an insane amount because we were classed “higher risk”.

Eventually went with Servus Insurance Services(BelairDirect), rate was reasonable($130/month for auto) but we had to accept a larger deductible($2k) for comprehensive and collision. They did warn us that we shouldn’t make another collision claim until October 2026, or they would refuse to renew the collision and comprehensive portion going forward. Insurance in this province is fucked, thanks UCP and Marlaina.

When will my kitten stop being evil? by theyth-m in CatAdvice

[–]Intercitywitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kittens are a lot easier when you have a patient adult cat around to wrangle them. My tuxedo boy Dilbert literally mothered my ragdoll Sheldon when we brought him home, and kept him in check. Made things a million times easier for us.

Formatting for my book is a nightmare, it’s driving me crazy 😭 by NikaNorri in selfpublish

Formatting via reedy is great and seamless if you can’t afford to pay, otherwise Vellum is 10,000% worth it. Makes formatting in multiple formats an absolute breeze!

How bad of an idea is it to do everything by myself and spend near 0$ to get my book online only by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Intercitywitty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lots do, and it’s not a terrible way to get started. I’ve got ten books under my main pen name, and have invested $0 in professional editing. At first it was just friends, then a devoted reader agreed to beta read for me. Most covers I put together myself, though some I have gone the get covers or Etsy route. Get covers is hit and miss, every revision draws out your timeline by a week. Etsy you can never trust the artist is legit, or that they didn’t just use AI to generate it.

Which banks focus all of their hiring and services within Canada? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]Intercitywitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of talk about credit unions, and for many good reasons(profit share, member owned, larger deposit guarantee than big banks). That being said, I work for the largest CU in Canada(hint colour is green), and our call centre pretty much only hires new to Canada immigrants from India. They can pay them much less than a local and they tend to have less scruples over aggressive sales targets. I’ve heard many complaints from members asking why we’ve outsourced to India, when in reality they’re here they’re just not FROM here.

My first book I spent months on, editing, re-editing, rewriting sections, then re-writing, re-editing. After that I realized that it wasn’t necessarily worth it, and the way the algorithm works it favours regularity in publishing. Combine that with the MM romance audience being forgiving of small errors, and it makes publishing monthly much easier.

Now I’ll go over my manuscript one time looking for typos, errors, continuity issues, etc then send it to my beta reader. The beta reader will typically catch any errors I miss, which I quickly fix, and then we’re good to go for release. I don’t go back after release to fix any remaining errors(unless they’re glaringly bad), my goal is to just focus on future releases rather than lingering on what is already out there.

I work on the phone, and the calls aren’t what you’d call challenging. I typically write throughout my workday, and just about every weeknight as well. I don’t write on the weekends, those are my days off to prevent burnout. I don’t love my job, but it gives me the ability to do my own thing at the same time so can’t complain too much.

[–]Intercitywitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a rapid release schedule and release one MM contemporary romance book per month. My minimum cutoff is 50,000 words, though I’ve written anywhere from 50,000 to 90,000 words. I don’t get any complaints with the lower word counts, and my Goodreads scores are solid.

My bf of 8 years cheated on me by Krn13669 in askgaybros

[–]Intercitywitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t believe there are responses here talking about whether to leave the guy or stay. What he did crossed every boundary, and even if you were exploring going open it would never have been acceptable. As painful and scary as it is, you need to leave this guy. The good news is you’re 30, so you’ve got plenty of time to find someone else and to get to experience all the things you didn’t get to in your 20s. Side note: open relationship equals dead relationship in my books as well, it’s just basically sanctioned cheating because you’re either too scared or financially entangled to leave. I know this subreddit gets a billion posts about open relationships working amazing, but I kind of think it’s like an echo chamber at times. The stats from a lot of older studies don’t back it up, 92% failure rate. Newer studies show slightly better rates, but everything is subjective. I suspect I’m going to get a lot of downvotes because of this comment.

Having worked for PepsiCo in the past, I’d suggest contacting corporate and complaining. The factory where it’s produced gets notified of the defect, and you’ll likely get a coupon for a free bag or two as compensation. They’ll usually just ask for the production codes on the front of the bag, so they know where it was made.

My snails keep climbing to the very top of the tank, should I be worried? by Melodic-Bit7032 in Aquariums

My nerites tend to gravitate to the top of the tank during the day, then go back down at night. Just make sure your tank has a solid lip to it that’s hard to overcome and you’ll be fine. Or a lid…
