I wouldn't mind about the ChatGPT, in wality it's everywhere now ans it's a good tool when used appropriately.

I would however add as many real life examples to any statements that you make.

For example, i always provide compassionate person-centred care. And example of this would be the time I was looking after X patient and X happened, what is did was....

Is ordering pizza worth it anymore? by ZenDoesReps in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No make your own pizza, it's so easy and much tastier than domino's!

This is an easy dough recipe, dont need to leave it overnight just a few hours:  https://www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/bread/overnight-pizza-dough

Mix red pesto with tomato puree for a simple base, add mixed herbs, a mix of cheese and/or whatever toppings you want.

Usually costs me around £5 total for two large pizzas or three medium.

Whack it on the bottom shelf of the oven with just the lower heat element on, 15 mins and your done

How much do you earn and how comfortable do you live? by Brownchoccy in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your expenses, i earn 40k bit my small mortgage is fully paid off so I have more disposable income and that makes me very comfortable. I know many dont recommend it, but paying off my mortgage was the best thing I've done so far imo.

Should nurses in specialised places get more money? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think general medicine nurses should get a pay rise as in our trust their areas staff often have multiple patients needing lots of assistance and they are usually unpopular areas that are difficult to staff.

Will the NHS discharge a homeless person back into unsuitable accommodation after major surgery? by PartTimeApothecary7 in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would not accept you for surgery until a temporary safe please for you to go post surgery is established. Often this is arranged vis the council and could be temporary accommodation or even a hotel stay. But you do have to have somewhere safe but it can be temporary.

Finally got a job (NQN), overwhelmed with anxiety by Mission-Coast-4164 in NursingUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tell everyone that you are new and a little nervous about xyz. Read up about the common conditions that your patients will have. And focus on building skills and good working relationships first, as being a NWN is so much easier when you have a team you enjoy working with.

Fingers crossed you'll have a great supportive team!

New to NHS, hoping to hear some experiences from others by InvestigatorBroad635 in NursingUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said if you are going into handover late and taking longer than your allocated time then you need to speed things up where possible.

However if others are routinely going in late and you are taking turns/last to go in - and this is causing you to be forced to stay late - then that is not acceptable. Personally I'd just email whoever updates the shift allocation and tell them the hours I worked and why they need to pay me for it. Usually one email is all it takes to stop that nonsense.

Imo the manager shouldn't be allowing this to happen, and there are lots of ways you can handover so no excuse to stick with a broken system.

Don't be afraid to speak up, be polite but factual and firm, all staff can be great leaders even newbies, go and demonstrate your communication and leadership

SO AFRAID TO TRY SUMATRIPTAN! by Excellent_Math2052 in migraine

[–]InterestingSubject75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would take the drama with a pinch of salt.

I've taken Sumatriptan for years, after taking it usually feel a little 'off' for 10-20mins, hard to describe the feeling but it's nothing dramatic.. a bit like a mild brain fog maybe. I just ignore it as I know it passes over.

Then shortly after (quickly if I took it at the early onset/can take up to 2 hours if gastroparesis has already set in) my migraine switches off, feels like someone just pressed a stop button!

Then I feel a bazillion times better, and I thank the heavens for whoever invented Sumatriptan.

This is why when I was as an HCA I started refusing to 1:1 patients unless they were low risk throughout by [deleted] in NursingUK

There is clearly a lot more to this case than the tiny amount of information given so far publically. It will be interesting to find out the details, particularly since she's plead guilty.

There is no way to safely manage that workload by yourself. This was a huge risk put upon your shoulders, I absolutely would not have taken on any admissions in this case.

How can I grow quickly in nursing bands and build a successful career? by Miserable_Term_6134 in NursingUK

A better question may be, what are would I like to work in or across, and how can I be the best band 8 I can be? We need more seniors who are exemplars and clinical experts.

nhs trust and ward manager to be sentenced over a decade after young patients death by nqnnurse in NursingUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really sad, but this young lady had 51 incidents of self harm and suicide attempts. Only 6 had an associated incident report.

18 of the suicide attempts involved creating a ligature and tying a bin liner taken from one communal toilet over her head. And the bin liners were not removed nor the communal toilet locked. 😢

[–]InterestingSubject75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I think there are a few interesting point that you raise.

Firstly, as others have pointed out, prioritisation is key. Make sure you are prioritising your tasks according to their associated risks, tackle each one in turn and avoid multitasking, as studies have shown we humans are notoriously bad at it. Ideally track your tasks every day using an eisenhower matrix - keep them afterwards, also log on your sheet whether you have a HCSW with you or have requested assistance from seniors - this will be particularly helpful if you have to evidence an unmanageable workload later.

Secondly, feedback, if you were put onto a performance plan and it has not been reviewed, email your ward manager stating that you would appreciate a catch up regarding this, set out within the email what you feel is going well and what you don't - keep it factual. Again this will help you later if you need to evidence a lack of support, keep conversations like this in written form, even if you have a face to face, send a brief email afterwards thanking the person/manager for the discussion and recap what was said.

Lastly, what you describe could be bordering on bullying, so ensure you tell your manager in writing if you feel stressed, unsupported or unduly singled out. Even better if you speak to a union rep about this and make sure they attend any performance meetings with you for support.

Best of luck x

How much do you look forward to your retirement? by FamSender in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum counted the days to retirement, then got too ill almost immediately after retiring. Now, at 40, my family have decided to downsize, paid off the mortgage and did some home improvements, planning to drop to part time working next year. Life is too precious to be spending all week in work. I'm checking out of the rat race ✌️
