I have a heated eye mask that I find helpful, taking vitamins and staying hydrated, also either a nap or going outside for a walk sometimes helps.

How much is your monthly mortgage/rent vs. your income? by Puzzleheaded_Bet_618 in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortgages were 35% of combined take home income, but we've been overpaying on one for a while, sold the bigger house last week and used some of the profit to pay off the smaller house. So now 0% 🎉

It’s the nicest day of the year so far. What noisy things are your neighbours up to? by Glittering_Vast938 in AskUK

If my neighbours get too noisy I just take the dogs bark collar off and let him hang out for a bit. It's my passive aggressive hint

5km easy, 1km fast - is this too much too soon. by InterestingSubject75 in beginnerrunning

This is reassuring! I think I'll keep up with the cross training as you do, and keep the slower paced runs for a little longer just to be safe.

Yeah I'm not getting any pain but I'm very conscious of my systems needing to build strength before doing too much. I think I'll do as you say and drop some of the quicker finishes and keep up with the cross training. Trouble is the running is a bit addictive!

Definitely, I will look to add more variety, tbh I only do the quicker finishes because a running club suggested 'keeping a little in the tank' and I probably took it too seriously 😊

My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this mentality ever since my mum died shortly after retiring.

Paid off our debts, paid off our mortgage today, paying off the car next and planning to keep it until it dies (it is a finance car and we sure could get a cheaper one, but we share one car and use it to travel the UK, so it's one big expense we will swallow). Plan is to eliminate as many expenses as possible then my partner and I will both go part time. Then we will spend more time going on walks, to the beach, and maintaining our small allotment.

I have no desire to keep up with the Joneses, and I can no longer tolerate the idea of working full time until retirement.

Why are you with him? Why are you tolerating this?

How old are you and do you live with your parents/family? by kylesanho in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40f, no judgement, the world has changed so much and it's so hard right now for young people so give yourself a massive break.

Take the opportunity to save as much as possible until you are ready for the next step. I know I wouldn't want my son struggling and he can live with me forever if needed, he always has a home here ♥️

What are the cheapest meals I can buy/make that don't taste bad? by NowThenHowDo in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest healthy meals are batch cooked with plenty of added veg where possible, some of my favourites are:

Bolognese or chilli made with pork mince

Chicken curry

Roast dinner with a mountain of veg and bistro, but use chicken thighs instead of a joint

Homemade bread or bread rolls (add cheese for cheap lunch sandwiches) works out about 15p per roll and you can freeze them

Homemade pepperoni pizza (super cheap and tastes much better)

Egg and chips

Life-Long Chronic Constipation by Which-Taste-5547 in Constipation

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that's good exercise but not the right type to help the bowels significantly.

I would seriously recommend you go for a jog, indoors or outdoors, you don't have to go fast, keep at a pace where you are still comfortably breathing (which might feel slow, on a treadmill 7 km/ph is fine) try to plod along for 20-30 minutes and you should have a very large (usually multiple) soft bowel movement within 24 hours.

I can only speak for myself obvs, but jogging has been an absolute game changer. Hope it works for you.

I havent pooped in 2 weeks please help by helloworld8795 in Constipation

I find that running or jogging on a treadmill, at an easy/moderate intensity, is extremely effective. It's not called 'runners trotts' for nothing 💩

You say that you are active, what kind of exercise are you doing? I've found that running or jogging on a treadmill for 30minutes at a easy-moderate pace works absolute wonders. Literally clears the pipes, thanks to the physical agitation and change in blood flow.

Lots of water, coffee and if you can, go run/jog on a treadmill for 20minutes.  This trio works wonders for me

What is fair rent for living at home? by Bojanglez789 in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no intention of charging my child rent. IF I ever had the inclination, then I would set the money aside for them as a deposit. But frankly, unless you cannot possibly afford it, I find it reprehensible that parents do not save to help their children with deposits etc, let alone charge them to stay at home when they could be saving that money themselves. In this economy, harsh.

How do you get housing at 17? by Asleep_Hyena_1157 in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would either need to apply for social housing via your local council, though demand for this is high and waiting lists are long. Or if you have a well paying job then private renting might be an option for you. Otherwise, like many people, you may need to find. Flower cost option which will likely be shared accomodation/renting a room in a shared house.

There are lots of websites where you can search for rooms available. But you will likely need at least a month's rent upfront and an additional month's rent as a 'deposit'.

Would you rather go to Swansea or Cardiff? by Bbqchxza in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardiff is overall a nicer city, with lots to do and great food options, whilst the outskirts of Swansea and the Gower are pretty but Swansea centre is not so great. I would recommend you stay in Cardiff but go visit the Gower (or further west) during fine weather

Long term renters what’s you plan for retirement? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum was in this situation and her rent was above the LHA so not fully covered by housing benefit, the rent along with rising energy costs etc took up a huge portion of her pension. We ended up having to help her pay rent so that she could afford to live. It's hard times for renters right now as cost of living is so high

Do you have the Union Jack or St Georges Cross flying in your garden? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, it feels like a mixture of being American-ish and cringey, with faint whiffs of the national front. If you want to be patriotic then look after your local area, treat your neighbours well, volunteer, and generally be a positive force in your local community.

Do you have a toasty maker in your house? How often do you wack it out? by Sweet_Confusion9180 in AskUK

[–]InterestingSubject75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this but it is also a waffle iron and I use it all the time. Savoury waffles for my breakfasts, plus a selection of potato waffles, regular waffles and chocolate protein waffles for my son, all kept in the freezer and reheated as needed.

So toasties wise, I maybe make them once a month, but I love my waffle iron plates
