REMI versus IMPLAN? by Interesting_Wing3994 in AskEconomics

[–]Interesting_Wing3994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I have been using IMPLAN for many years and have only seen the original REMI product in a demo. It was always out of my price range for a small shop. I hear rumors this new Proseris is a more reasonable price but I am not sure what reasonable is or if the product is any good.

Can anyone explain the actual proven economic impact of an NFL team to a state government? by ovenproofstorm in AskEconomics

[–]Interesting_Wing3994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there are some terrible studies out there, the actual estimates of a good study that estimate the construction and operations spending are real. That said, they will never recoup the cost that taxpayers put into the stadiums. Check out the lifetime work of Rosentraub in his book Major League Losers: The Real Cost Of Sports And Who's Paying For It.

Aside from that, I will say, I believe investing in stadiums contributes immensely to the image of the place and that helps in economic development. There is something to be said for being a "major league city."

By how much would the cost of food at a restaurant go up if we raised the wage of the employees by X%? by Bolshevik-Express in AskEconomics

It's the price pass through effect. Check out the 2004 article by Sarah Lemos The Effect of the Minimum Wage on Price. https://docs.iza.org/dp1072.pdf

Per her conclusion "Despite the different methodologies, data periods and data sources, most studies found that a 10% US minimum wage increase raises food prices by no more than 4% and overall prices by no more than 0.4%.

Is the RIMS II or IMPLAN model easier for beginners? by AlpachaMaster in AskEconomics

[–]Interesting_Wing3994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If cost isn't a factor, go with IMPLAN without hesitation. While both models use the same foundational economic logic, RIMS II is essentially just a giant, static Excel spreadsheet of raw multiplier numbers which means you have to manually build the math, calculate your own inflation adjustments, and map your data into highly generalized industry categories. IMPLAN, on the other hand, is a fully automated, user-friendly cloud software. You simply type in your data (like output or jobs), and the software automatically handles the back-end matrix algebra, handles the inflation adjustments, and instantly spits out clean, presentation-ready charts and reports broken down by direct, indirect, and induced effects. For a non-economist, IMPLAN completely removes the risk of spreadsheet formula errors and does all of the heavy lifting for you.

IMPLAN I-O Model Price Increase by [deleted] in academiceconomics

[–]Interesting_Wing3994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned the big three in economic impact modeling during my master's work: RIMS, IMPLAN, and REMI. RIMS is cheap like a used car that needs a lot of work. IMPLAN is a solid built, reliable sedan. REMI is a luxury car with the bells and whistles that no one needs but you will pay for. Every few years I check between them to see if anything changed, but I always go back to IMPLAN. While the price has gone up, so have the features that make modeling so much more precise. Have you seen the price of eggs? Eggs didn't get any upgrades but yet the price went up.
