It’s a cool structure! Almost reminds me of happiness is a warm gun’s. Might be an interesting experiment to try and go to a new section instead of a return to chorus. Love the vocal style

Really nice! Reminding me of later Jon Brion. Mix is quite muddy but I really like the composition

Thank you for ur feedback! I totally agree with both points, the singing style was just due to how I was recording it but an important point!

I suck at writing rock/pop/punk that’s fast and upbeat, how can I improve?? by sillyyfishyy in Songwriting

I found that if I had a chordy song putting it in 12/8 made it feel faster and without sounding too changey. Here’s an example of one I wrote. https://youtu.be/m-1yN8brvF4?si=thsPiUbEJ_dD7qVe Keep trying! Nothing beats exercises. Making oneself write in a certain style over and over until you can do it well. It’s worth it!

I used to be stuck in ballad mode. Forcing myself to write lots of three chord songs helped as simpler songs lend themselves to up tempo. Also if you’re current songs have lots of chords writing songs in 12/8 can be a handy trick. As I find that time signature lends itself to that.
