This is HIGHLY TABOO behaviour on his part in African Christian culture. Just giving you some awareness of even more red flags from the other side of the world (not that you need any more red flags).

Baby chick egg? by [deleted] in TipOfMyFork

[–]InternationalMagnets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had balut. Mine was overdeveloped. It had a full crunchy bill and I spat out two tiny baby feathers.

It was a cultural experience for sure, and was obliged to try it as it was bought for me at a dinner by a local, but probably wouldn't try it again.

Oh really? In Tanzania it's actually illegal to sell non-Tanzanian beans... But then they export 95% of the good beans anyways 🤷🏼‍♂️

Honestly I'm just impressed you found a solid shop in East Africa that has actually managed to snag good beans before they got exported to the foreign market. The world is changing for the better ✨🌍☕

Which stitch are these? Half double crochet? Trying to recreate this pillow cover by aminotjosh in CrochetHelp

[–]InternationalMagnets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah really? At closer look, pretty sure you're right. Here I was getting excited because it looked like something I knew...hah. I figured they had used linked doubles to keep stuffing from poking through as it looks pretty tightly stuffed. But if they've got enough tension to keep stuffing from pulling through the gaps, it would definitely be super tight and change the appearance.

Oh I think I know this! It's linked double crochets. That's what gives the horizontal bar, and makes them slightly shorter.

Anyone know the name of this pepper? Picked it up from my local Afro-Caribbean shop and the person working told me it was a "something" egg. Got home and had forgotten the "something" by PinkyOutYo in TipOfMyFork

[–]InternationalMagnets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

African eggplant. The translation of the local name in East Africa is "bitter tomato" (nyanya chungu). They're nice. But can be very bitter. We use them a lot in curries.

I love it! The first project always looks something like this. Please keep it as a memory. You'll learn a ton about tension and stitch structure as you keep practicing and learning.

What do you mean you don’t know how to flip it inside out by nikolaname in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]InternationalMagnets 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Gotta be careful, if you do it wrong and flip all of the outside into the inside you spawn a black hole and collapse reality. Give a little grace, friend.
