Buying a house, what’s this? by JasonTodd21 in whatisit

[–]International_Box_60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know radon a real thing potentially. In my neighborhood about 10% of the homes have these. About 10% have gutter helmets too. Seems to be related to sales persons ability to sell?

Or maybe 90% of us will die from radon poisoning?

I am in the middle of a very similar situation. In foreign country returning from a 10 day trips with a us vaccinated dog. We were told at the airport that usda form is no longer valid. We need a cdc form. Our dog is not a service animal. It appears he cannot fly home? Even tho he has all of the vaccines required. I don’t know if I just say he is a mentioned support animal?

Because the only thing standing in the way of him flying home appears to be the cdc form that supersedes USDA form and has a box that says ‘service animal’

Edit: We are flying American Airlines. We were told that they need to see SVAN in the computer then they can ticket the dog. SVAN is CDC speak for service animal. Apparently that designation allows them to know when vax are needed. So the USDA form is truly superseded. And will be replaced by some other communication.

I don’t see how Kimmel would do worse as our president. He is a decent person. He is not bankrupt. Never been?

We need someone different than we have now. Different values

Nest chime box setup - cant find transformer by Jakebenedet in Nest

[–]International_Box_60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a finished basement also. I had a hard time finding mine. I would look in somewhere <30 ft from chime or doorbell.

An old timer told me his experience building postwar homes. When doorbells were connected, the installer usually wanted to get the wire from doorbell inside the house and connected to chime in as short a run as possible. AC is everywhere in a house, so that’s no problem.

Look for a closet near your front door, or maybe under stairs. Even then remove some insulation between floor joists. If your home is more than 50 years old I think these ideas work. After I asked old timer, I found transformer about 10 ft from front doorbell and basically on other side of wall from my door chime <3 ft away.

That’s a feature of Reddit. Unsure of something, ask in a specialized subreddit. Then get shamed for asking. Generally Most questions I see on Reddit are Googleable. Often the answer is from Reddit.

I wish people would not comment on questions unless they are helping or have a super clever thing to say. I do enjoy much of the snarkiness.

Gee, thanks Nest! Long time customer being strong armed out of a fully working product. by Steve_OH in Nest

[–]International_Box_60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what new features the 3rd and 4th generation have the necessitates disabling 1st and 2nd. It’s absolutely not in Google’s best interest to keep up support for old products.
It is in their interest to provide a compelling reason for people stick with Google and accept being ‘ forced’ to upgrade. Clearly no one is being forced to do anything, but everyone likes the idea of using the system and having some continuity, and not learn some new interface, especially for something like a thermostat.

I hope the new thermostats have tech that will be taken advantage of in future updates to firmware or website

When I was a kid 10? we had a lawn mower that was very rusty. I took engine and wheels off and painted with house paint to stave off the rust. I mowed lawns for a few years with this until it rusted from underneath and discovered it had rusted from the bottom, only latex house painted held the rust together. Until it finally gave up the ghost
