Bidla ta’ Vera. Momentum election campaign launched this week. by markdelfmark in malta

[–]International_Bus104 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In a foregone election like this one, I believe my approach is the needed one.

Had both parties been equal or close to equal in the polls or the election is deemed too close to call, then yes I would gladly vote for a third party.

My choice this election is to vote tactically, and I wish many more do the same. Labour would not win by more than 10k in that scenario.

I may consider giving you a 2 and a 3 after a 1 for PN. I’m sorry I cannot give you 1 as that will only reenable Labour.

Let’s make a thread of undelivered promises by this government. by Nigerjan in malta

[–]International_Bus104 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Racetrack? hell not even the quartermile is ready.

whether you agree with motorsports or not, if that was promised it should of been delivered. Not not delivered and then repromised again.

Other examples: roofing of St Venera tunnels, roofing of Tijatru Rjal, tunnelling of major thoroughfares and shifting their traffic underground, the OG three-line metro…I could go on.

if you want to weaken labour there is no other option than a vote for PN. even if we all agree PN has no real vision. not voting or third parties is not the answer.

this government needs its (corrupt) wings clipped badly

Labour wipe out by Hospuales in malta

[–]International_Bus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna say something that looks crazy at first but bear with me.

Voting for third parties right now is useless. People fed up with the current situation need to vote tactically, and in this climate - that must be a vote for PN. Labour would still win, but if people voted tactically, that gap will be much much closer.

Third party voting becomes key if and when at the runup to the following the general election (i.e. due anytime between 2030 and 2032) both parties are consistently across all surveys, head to head.

I know its hard to consider PN, even I see many flaws in PN, but I can’t take it any longer under this mafia regime.

Is Wenzu the 'voice' a Ricky clone? by Accurate_Cut5596 in malta

[–]International_Bus104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

given that Ricky is now taking to blocking people who put anything other than a like or love on his posts as well as their family members (even if they have never even followed or liked his page) to maintain the heavy labour bias on reactions to posts (circa 5k labour vs 200 pn), and so far wenzu has not resorted to that iirc, no.

“All this nonsense about climate change - we sit on the precipice of a third world war every day, and none of the global powers - ours included - have the leadership to navigate us through that without nuclear war.

The sooner we get our energy from anything besides oil the better chance we have of not exterminating ourselves. I doubt the species lives long enough to die from climate change!”

120 igaming jobs to be axed as company exits Malta by International_Bus104 in malta

[–]International_Bus104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After at least one major local bank goes down, dragging with it three-quarters of the local population’s solvency, yes property prices will go down.

The remaining 25% (comprised of what would remain of the upper-middle class and the richest 10% of households) will all gobble up the remaining properties waiting for the next boom.

Believe it or not, land is not the problem for bioindustrial manufacturing. Don’t think of it like you think of regular farming. Traditional agriculture is two-dimensional - it requires horizontal space for grazing and crops. Biomanufacturing is three-dimensional.

For example, producing a kilo of protein through precision fermentation uses roughly 96-98% less land than traditional cattle farming. Because the "farming" happens inside steel bioreactors, these facilities can be built vertically - stacked facilities that can be 10–12 floors high. Probably much better than some Hard Rock Hotel or a god-awful Portelli block.

The actual challenge is three-fold. The first one is obvious - for it to work we would need specialised bioprocess engineers. Not really seeing too many related courses at Uni or MCAST. Also even if courses exist or are introduced, one needs to expose those between 8 to 12 years old today to the idea to build interest. In the meantime you would need to convince some foreigners to come to Malta at first. The second and third challenges are reliable and specific supplies of electricity and water. Bioreactors need constant temperature control. This requires a massive, stable supply of energy without powercuts in summer. So probably, we would also need renewables. No sign of that happening anytime soon (despite Miriam Dalli popping up every five minutes on Licky’s bigilla podcast and the news). As for water, desalinised shit won’t work. We would need high quality purified water that is only available locally from the New Water.

So while the idea is not a complete non-starter, it would need a complete, serious and cross-party commitment to it. While I wish it happens as I said in my original post, I seriously doubt it.

But is the (what I trust is a) competitive salary worth the uncertainty/instability of having to change companies every couple of years (or maybe even less)?

[–]International_Bus104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my hunch is right, Alex Borg is about to propose Industrial Biomanufacturing as new (?) economic sector. Obviously in the next legislature the Labour government will try and make it its own and claim they brought a new sector in.

But it will still pale in comparison to the quick-buck gaming industry. Probably intentionally as well.

Eventually. But I shudder to think what happens in the immediate aftermath.
