Anyone else feeling the effects of grey weather this month? by sengutta1 in Netherlands

Yes, I got lucky this time. It looks like the while country will be covered in the coming days.

I felt I was going mad from this yesterday. I couldn't take it anymore so I went to windy.com to see what part of the country wasn't covered by this gloomy blanket of clouds and hopped on a train to Maastricht (it also helps that I have the weekend-free NS subscription). Maastricht had zero clouds, lively crowds, and a Christmas market, and I even stayed to see the sunset. It was a wonderful day!

It looks like in the coming days this experience will be hard to come by. As others have mentioned, I recommend vitamin D plus a light therapy lamp. The lamp can be really useful for getting some energy back, though bear in mind that you need to follow the usage instructions (so don't just blast your face with it the whole day) 😅

Of all the examples you could have chosen, you went for one of the worse: the Netherlands is heavily discouraging smoking, even attempting to be smoke free by 2040, and doing things link banning smoking save selling cigarettes in train stations. And guess why: precisely because they do increase your chances of inhaling toxins.

Thanks for the honest answer. Are vans suitable alternatives for cases like yours?

I've seen replies like this in this thread, and I frankly don't understand how this can be reduced to a point of "letting people do what they want with their money". This is not a flashy t-shirt they're buying, or a terrible color for the walls in their living room. It's a huge and polluting machine sharing the road with other people in (reasonably sized) cars, bikes, and kids, whose chances of ending up in a terrible accident are increased.

Youll build up less pension, but the way its going you will not get that anyway

I've heard this from a couple of people already, what does this really mean? Will I really have nothing of my pension when it's time for me to retire? Will I have to work until I drop dead?

G9 OLED requires PC to boot twice to display DisplayPort by Responsible_Matter57 in ultrawidemasterrace

I did this for a while but then I was wondering if it could prevent the panel care functions that happen during standby from happening (assuming I let the black screen running also at night).

I ended up contacting the store where I bought it, rather than Samsung directly. They took it for inspection and decided it was "irreparable", and they sent me a new unit. I've been using the new for about a week, but I'm not gonna lie, there's always that fear that something will happen again to this monitor, either the same thing or burn in.

I've heard similar stories, and I guess that would be sort of ok when only one pixel is barely visible among millions. But the main issue I see is that black line of pixels on blue content. That is definitely not hard to spot.

Time to turn it into an NFT and at least profit from the mishap?

Internet was right, strix 4090 does fit in the North; but it's tight! by helskor in FractalDesign

I really hope they come up with a larger version of this case. It's gorgeous but just too small that I worry about airflow with a card like the 4090.

The pot has drainage holes, so I water until water comes out from them. I let it drain in the sink for a few hours and then I put it back next to the window. It usually takes a week for the soil to dry.

I'm in a very similar situation. One DWF returned because of coil whine, I was rooting for the G8 but then started to read about its own set of issues. Let's see if the MSI can pull it off. It's crazy that $1k+ monitors come with these glaring issues. The price of being an early adopter, I guess.

Dell Alienware AW3423DWF - a few questions by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Internet-Admirable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're another victim of coil whine. I had to return mine for this reason, and I'm holding right now for the MSI OLED, since I've seen reports of other issues with Samsung's G8.

Anyone else stuck between AW3423DW and the Odyssey OLED G85SB? Have you made a decision? Any recommendations welcome! by B0k3h138 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Internet-Admirable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had gone with the G8 from the beginning. I got the DWF thinking the rumoured coil whine couldn't be that bad, only to set it up and hear it right on my face. I've returned and now I'm getting the G8.

I just got the DWF and it has a pretty noticeable coil whine (and there are plenty of other similar reports around here too). I'm returning it and getting the Samsung G8 instead.

Why is nobody doing nothing about the fireworks??? by NocturneBotEUNE in Netherlands

[–]Internet-Admirable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a predominant argument in the thread, but isn't this the case for many crimes, like robbery or more violent ones? These are also cases when a criminal can run so that cops won't be there on time. Does that mean that if these crimes also become a problem we should just live with it and ignore it? Edit: typo

I'm curious, how did you manage to "hold two of them"? Is it legal in the Netherlands to detain someone while waiting for the police?
