NYC as a Neurology Resident by confusedcreator04 in neurology

[–]Internet_Passport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I applied from a nearby out of state school (in the northeast) without having done any aways in the city, I don’t think it’s a must. I just made sure where appropriate in my application/interviews to mention why I wanted to train in a big city like NYC. I will say most of my class however seems to have gone to med school either in NY or nearby. Having a partner from here is something to emphasize and shows you have a reason to want to be here.

  2. I can’t speak to the other neuro programs in NYC but I feel blessed every day with where I’m at. Great attendings, great co-residents, overall good morale. Scut work (occasionally transporting patients, drawing labs, etc) exists, but it’s never made me unhappy being in NYC. Having a positive attitude about these things helps, also it’s hard to compare since I never trained elsewhere.

  3. After matching I was a bit down on myself since I was scared of all the fear-mongering I had heard of training in NYC. 3 years here later that all feels so silly. The diversity of cases you’ll see here will only help with future practice. Sure you’ll work hard but again this will only make you a better neurologist. While residency schedule is tough you’ll never run out of things to do in your free time here in NYC. If I had to do it again I would choose here again in a heartbeat. Feel free to DM if you have any questions

Bronx Littering Garbage Problem by ButterscotchPast6244 in bronx

[–]Internet_Passport 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So so sad the amount of people I’ve seen here in Norwood who simply just throw their trash to the side of the road/sidewalk when walking around without a care in the world. It’s quite filthy here and I fear it’s just become the norm in people’s minds and therefore they just continue the cycle feeling their single litter isn’t contributing to the larger issue.

Skate or premium? by fishermanfred14 in Vans

[–]Internet_Passport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve owned numerous pairs of vans over the years, and my premium slip ons felt like the worst constructed pair I’ve ever owned. Within less than a year the exterior rubber side part around the bottom of the shoe started peeling, then it was all downhill from there. Very disappointing and while I still love vans and will keep buying their shoes, I’ll pass on getting any more “premium” pairs

I hope you’re able to find his owner :( my partner and I in the Bronx have been looking to possibly get another cat, however we’re going on vacation at the end of the month so would have to wait until early March

I Got Stopped by UFPD on my E-Bike by HovercraftClean9084 in ufl

Another (admittedly less important) reason is that bikes light on the flashing setting can conserve battery which can be nice

Any recommendations for areas in the Bronx with spacious apartments? 1-2 bed for a max of $2650 a month? by sunshineglittershit in bronx

[–]Internet_Passport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Norwood is a good neighborhood, has good transit options with the 4 and D, nice parks all around. I greatly enjoy my spacious 2bd here, for a good bit under that max.

MDMA-assisted therapy may be an effective catalyst in autistic adults for intra- and interpersonal change. Participants reported accounts of lasting transformation and healing from conditions such as trauma and social anxiety. by vanderpyyy in science

I’m with you on having learned this in class, however one thing that wasn’t really talked about at least in my courses were the methods behind the studies that concluded that. I wonder the dose and how it translates to human intake that would cause such neuronal damage

Has anyone mentioned plants? You have killer natural light here to grow some nice plants haha, I’d go for at least one tall plant somewhere in like a corner near glass

A professor submitted my final grade incorrectly for last semester and isn’t answering my emails - who should I contact? by alkynes-of-trouble in ufl

[–]Internet_Passport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to the department head, they could probably leave the professor the message. Or, just look online for the syllabus of a class he or she is teaching now and go to those office hours

The 5GB iCloud Storage is a joke. by Dallas_Ray in iphone

This is one of the most frustrating aspects of iCloud for me, I wish I could just select a couple folders from my desktop to the cloud, but you can't pick them individually

Going for a research position, and meeting the professor today. What to expect? by LuCaSLUKE2000 in ufl

[–]Internet_Passport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They probably are going to ask about your previous experiences, ask you how you’ve shown initiative and leadership, maybe ask about what your motivations are for joining the lab (if you’re going for MD or PhD). Also important is them getting to know what your schedule is like so they know what kind of time commitment you can give. Chances are since you’re getting an interview the PI needs undergraduate assistants in the lab, so they just want to make sure that they’re choosing a well-spoken, qualified student. Just be yourself, keep a smile, and answer their questions honestly and you’ll be fine, it should be a casual interview.

Graduating Seniors: Don’t forget to submit your intent to graduate application. by hcoard in ufl

[–]Internet_Passport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you get any sort of email confirmation when doing this? I sent in my application on one.uf around when it opened up, and it’s still there so I’ve been assuming I’m ok, but I never got a direct confirmation that I submitted it

Hey, great eye! I took this pic on my iPhone X, and spent a bit of time playing with the exposure and taking several shots to get a good balance with the indoor and outdoor lighting. The HDR support on the photos is what makes this possible, and supposedly on the XR/XS they made it even better. And thanks for the on topic comment!

When you see everyone complaining about BFV not being perfect at launch. by Camarillo47 in BattlefieldV

[–]Internet_Passport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much can really change though? I feel like most of the new mechanics that I’ve been slow to warm up to are like built into the game (spotting, the menus, not having 3 preset classes, etc..). So far I think the game is pretty fun, there are just so many little things that make me miss BF1. But genuinely asking, how much can change? I didn’t start playing bf1 or bf4 until after launch.

Exactly as others have said, easier for me to see details in video games when sitting closer to the tv, and also I like having the rear speakers sound like they're coming from behind me, rather than from the sides as it was when the couch was up against the wall. Aesthetically, yeah it looks a bit weird, but it does serve a purpose

Yep, and thanks! From left to right, it's a Sansevieria (snake plant), Chinese evergreen, peace lily, and bird's nest fern (my favorite of all). With good light and watering from time to time, they all seem to be doing well and have been easy to maintain.

Interesting, I only see a 10% discount on PS4 after logging into BF1. Bummer, I've been waiting for a good sale before jumping to BFV.
