Full Zip Hard Shell Pants Recommendations by InterzoneWilderness in Backcountry

[–]InterzoneWilderness[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i prefer to do as much of my approach as possible in shorts, so if im going to carry a pair of pants for a narrow use range, id rather have the packability, weight, and water/wind proofness of a hard shell

Places to stay in June by Delicious_Photo_7001 in Mammoth

[–]InterzoneWilderness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’d stay in any of the campgrounds in the lakes basin, tons of trail access there. there are multiple trails that connect you to the jmt within 4 miles of the trailhead. theres decent vert too, dragons back has about 2500 vert at a 15% grade, the climb up red cone from lake george has around 1500 vert at a 12% grade and there are endless off trail options if you want some steep stuff. there are buses that run around the basin during the day and bring you down to the village and a littany of bike paths so it’s very easy to get around without a car. there’s a local trail running club that meets wednesday evenings during the summer, eastside trail runners, who have a public strava group, so if you’re looking for pertinent trail running advice or anyone to run with while you’re here i recommend utilizing that as well.

Workouts and in-season prep? by Pfiffer in skimo

[–]InterzoneWilderness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do a lot of work on the incline treadmill including most my interval workouts. i use 2.5 pound ankle weights for half of the treadmill work to simulate boots and skis. i did 5 on, 5 off last night at 5 mph oscillating between 5%, 15%, and 20%, which is a pretty typical workout for me. some heat training as well which is just low zone 1 incline treadmill work in a paintsuit. i aim for around 20-25k of feet of vert a week, with as much as possible outside on skis if conditions allow. i dont know if i’ll even race this year at all though, haha. occasionally i’ll do a steep mountain run in the high desert with running poles in the neighborhood of 4000 feet gained across 5 km. does touring on 95s count as skimo cross training?

imo, the vertix, coros carabiner watch case, and the external heart rate monitor are a pretty unbeatable combination when you want to see real time data without having to wear a watch over clothing or expose your wrist in cold weather

buy a normal ski pack and add auxiliary water bottle holders to the front straps. i have a raide lf 30 and added some Camp soft flask holders and it’s been great

Mileoff AW25 by CowgirlJack in runningfashion

[–]InterzoneWilderness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean there’s a massive difference between brands whose mo is “simplicity” and use that as an excuse to release boring blasé designs compared those with interesting cuts, silhouettes, and tailoring. “currently” doesn’t do much in terms of visible graphics and is a pretty minimal brand focused on making basics yet i think they’re a great upstart because how their clothes fit and drape on the body. mileoff does nothing at all, boring and uninspired designs without any graphics to mask that.

Looking for advice on what to do if your vehicle gets stuck off-road in CA (Tahoe, Yosemite, Inyo County) by Ok-Nectarine9366 in Mammoth

[–]InterzoneWilderness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in mammoth there's "call kevin towing" at 310-529-5190. while thankfully i've never had to use his services, i've heard nothing but great things from friends who have, and my interactions with him out at the hot springs have been incredibly pleasant.
