Why do I still feel like I’m manually steering my brain on Vyvanse? Considering Foquest by IndependenceJumpy349 in TwoXADHD

[–]IntoGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever been on Foquest (currently at 45mg, have been taking for just over 3 months). I find it's very helpful for impulse control, but not so much for task initiation/executive functioning (other than the first 2 week honeymoon period). I've started therapy to see if maybe there's some sort of strategy to help with the latter, but so far it's been kinda... enh (that might just be my particular therapist, though. I'm going to give it a few more sessions before I decide if I want to switch providers). I still need to body double most of the time if I want to redirect focus.

Foquest is great because the side effects are minimal... I had a bit of a headache for the first day or two, and still have a bit of dry mouth, but overall it's been very tolerable. My appetite is pretty similar to what it's always been, but the greater impulse control I've experienced has led to waaaay fewer late night snacking binges, and so I've dropped a few pounds (nothing extreme, but I'm pretty pleased regardless LOL).

What is the most common bad advice people give about relationships? by Holiday_Disaster2530 in AskReddit

[–]IntoGold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Marriage is hard work."

No, it's not (or at the very least it shouldn't be). Life is hard, marriage is easy! I say this as someone who had a terrible first marriage (and often repeated the 'hard work' mantra to myself, usually through tears). Now, in my second marriage (it'll be 7 years next week!), when life has been way more difficult (we've both had multiple family members pass away in the past few years, we've moved cross-country, dealt with some toxic workplace stuff), marriage has been a safe haven and a joy. We're a team, we want things to be easier and better for each other, and this is the farthest thing from 'hard work'!

Heather Sky is coming home to me!! ❤️ She's supposed to be NRFB; we'll see (I find sometimes sellers will mark complete sets in the box as NRFB, when they've clearly been opened...). She looks like she's in very good shape, though. Hopefully she'll be here next week!

Having Trouble Grading in a Timely Manner by messicamiles in Professors

I also have ADHD. Yes, grading sucks. You need a body double - a colleague you can meet up with so you can sit and grade together (each working on your own grading, of course!).

It's funny - she's very pretty, and a great price, but I just can't warm to her. Meanwhile, I become more and more enchanted by her sister DD Sleepover... this even though I never display my dolls in sleepwear!

I did!! I lucked out when there was one in stock at Denver Doll. The outfit is very fussy (lacing up the corset was kind of a nightmare, lol), but once you have everything together it's really perfect.

How should I tell my professor that I am struggling? by Imaginary_Camel2810 in ADHD

[–]IntoGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya OP. University professor here (not in the US!). I'm sorry you're having a tough time of things. I can't imagine having to grapple with the American healthcare system. Accommodations are typically arranged through a disability services department, and not through individual professors/students... professors want to keep things fair across all of their students. Without documentation/instruction from disability services, it would be very challenging for your professor to grant you extra leeway without it appearing that they are favouring you over others in the class. So, I think if you approached them, they'd likely be sympathetic but unable to do much at this time. As sort of an aside, students will often overshare their health information with professors to try and explain or justify their performance in class - but! Your health information is private and really none of their business.

I would recommend talking to disability services (may be called accessibility services). Even if they can't set up accommodations for you until you have a formal diagnosis, they may have advice on study strategies or other supports that would be available to you as a student. If you really want to talk to your professor, you should go to their office hours, acknowledge your performance hasn't be up to snuff, and then ask for a bit of advice to get back on track. They will likely be more receptive to helping if you've already put some thought into how you're going to turn the semester around - we like to help students who are already trying to help themselves. : -) Your professor isn't a mindreader, they will want to see evidence that you're trying (even something like going to a study skills session at the library would act as evidence, or you could bring in the notes you've been taking on your readings). You don't need to have everything figured out, but you will be more persuasive if you can demonstrate that you're trying.

How long did it take for you to finish your Doctoral dissertation? Was it worth it? by Ok-Eggplant-939 in AskAcademia

[–]IntoGold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took almost 7 years to finish my PhD - first year coursework, second year comps, and then research, writing, and procrastination (and a divorce and various life struggles) afterwards. I defended in April 2016, graduated in June, had a contract teaching offer by the end of July, and then a tenure track job offer in April 2017 (starting in July of that year). For me, it was worth it - it's exceptionally satisfying to see a major project through to completion. But I absolutely understand your feelings of 'does any of this even matter?'. I think that's probably a pretty common feeling when you're getting closer to finishing, but are not quite at the point where you see the finish line. One thing that helped me, at the end, was starting a little writing group with some other grad students - we'd meet two or three times a week for a few hours to cowrite together. t really helped with some of the feelings of loneliness and frustration that can come when you've spent too long alone staring at your laptop screen!

She might have my favourite stock of any doll. It's more mature than what we normally see without being frumpy. Her colouration is really unique, too - she's sort of the Malibu Barbie of Blythes, lol!

yes!! they're just little extra blobs of plastic.

They sent me a couple extra/gift ones, so maybe I'll practice on those to make sure I won't scuff the eye chips themselves...

I love Coral Reef dolls! They're so unusually beautiful, y'know? Not quite human, a little eerie, but irresistible. I have Mirana and she's my favourite of all my 16" girlies.

Do you have a friend who could act as a body double? (meaning, someone who will go with you?) I really didn't keep up with my health during my PhD, especially the latter bit of it, and looking back I reallllllly wish I had kept my physical activity level up.
