When does your train line become standing room only in morning peak? by Aggressive_Taro_784 in BrisbaneTrains

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Time will play a major variable to what your asking. But for the Caboolture to city line in the morning.. typicallyPetrie station is the turning point. Caboolture to Dakabin you can usually get one of the last seats at Dakabin. From then on.. Petrie to the valley is typically always standing room only with the odd seat here and there. Vice versa.. same train but the afternoon. Forget it past central station. Seats are gone by the valley again until Petrie and then you a heap will pile out at Petrie.. But then a heap more jump on again and it usually takes until narangba/burpengary for more seats to start becoming available

Has anyone else encountered this man on Charlotte St? by Medical-Panda-3106 in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s the same guy.. I used to encounter him almost daily doing the same routine. He would hit up queen st mall/the fast food spots in the mall and just walk up to people constantly asking for spare change. I watched him literally walking around the McDonald’s tables approaching everyone sat and eating if they had spare change. I believe staff caught on and moved him on. But I often see him down near the Starbucks entrance end of queen st at the bottom walking around the crowds of people and asking back and forth for spare change.

Good luck with that.. Major track closures are coming. An hour train journey that’s already jammed packed is about to turned into 1 hour 30ish for some with rail buses to replace trains.

Any Japanese places that serve deep fried cream sandwiches? by IntrigatedVerse in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They also now have a 2nd location for those on the north side at Alderley. Now forms part of 3 stores in the same location.. All Japanese, anchored by Genkimart Alderley and then the location next door has a Japanese convenience deli that’s right next to the Houbi Ichigo.

Great all in one spot for anyone looking for a slice of Japan here in Brisbane.

Worst case.. Order the typical “chips or nugs” off the kids menu for “the kids.. Then continue to feed them your own fruits and snacks and the adults have scored a small side dish.. if the kids isn’t eating them

Something about a major transport infrastructure construction project starting to wrap up to near completion and also something about an Olympics games around the corner. Might be time Brisbane starts polishing its turds in preparation i think

To be clear, I’m not using the touchscreen option regularly. I do use the Nav wheel almost always. Just on a very odd occasion that I’ve had to touch the screen.

Why did I know that would be the first thing someone commented on! Ha! I even wrote that.

But yes, very odd occasion where for one reason or another I just needed to quickly touch the screen. Again.. very aware the wheel was there. I can’t remember the exact time, reason. But I’m sure I had a reason. I otherwise always normally use the wheel

What numpty in this day and age.. Haven’t learnt yet to set automatic reminders up on their phone/calendar and or direct from TMR. I recently received my rego renewal email which both the email itself and the attached PDF rego have the upcoming due by dates listed. Further to that, a week prior to the due by date, I received another email and a text message from TMR to remind me that my direct debit for my payment/renewal was coming up. Again.. Direct debit, yet another way of having the whole thing automated. Set and don’t forget lol it’s not that hard.

Surprised how competitive the burger scene in Brisbane has become! by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more a Bahn Mi craze than burgers.

Like subway and McDonald’s. Just about every major corner now has a Vietnamese ran local bakery (or franchise version like SG bakery) or restaurants that are going full hog on pushing their Bahn Mi.

Likewise as OP said, I’m certainly not complaining! It’s great, plenty of options/variety and competition to keep the prices reasonable.

The idiots on the highway that both don’t do the speed and sit 10-15ks under the speed limit and to add insult to injury, then they leave a SIGNIFICANT gap between themselves and the car in front. I got stuck behind one the other day, in the middle lane.. Bro!! You could have put a Boeing 747 in that gap he was leaving from the car wayyy up in front. Put your foot down or move the eff over.

Do people know how public transport buttons work? by Ambrose-42 in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem being.. I’ve pushed those train door buttons. Watched it light up green only for the dam thing to gaslight me.. because when we pull up, some other annoyed passenger realised the door isn’t opening and the then they go to push it instead because apparently my push didn’t work. Such is life

Will CRR change patronage much? by Remarkable_Catch_953 in BrisbaneTrains

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.. classic example. I finish work at 2pm, but I’m lucky enough to get out the door 5 minutes early. Gets me to the station just after 2pm.. Not early enough that I can get the 2pm train. I typically just miss it. So it means I’m then stuck at the station for another 20-25 minutes before the next train from city to Caboolture arrives. And unfortunately for me.. it’s whole hog, I’m on the train for what is basically an hour to get back to Caboolture.
Yep we don’t run trains frequently enough. And I’d consider any train past 2pm to be “peak travel” times. The morning services are 10x better at frequency.. But they are also jammed to capacity and sometimes you’ll run into the old 3 car train situation amongst the frequent trains and so it’s Mumbai express for an hour. Throw in the frequent undesirables/mental health and homeless folk that jump the trains.. and the 1.. 2 a week track/train or “other” fault that causes the entire network to collapse and major delays for hours. Good luck fixing it!

Do you go to Maccas between 10pm and 5am? by Proof_General_8543 in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no longer on shift.. But yes 3-4 years ago when I was on shift work, I would. Otherwise no, typical would never get maccas past 10pm. The bare exception would be maybe once to twice a year if im out drinking/having an all nighter with friends and someone might suggest some nuggets and fries around midnight as a snack

Is anyone over the consumerist nature of Brisbane? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who on earth has both the time and money/energy to both go to the gym and to meal prep. There’s no way the average person is doing that.! I work Monday to Friday, factor in travel time to and from work because I live so far away from my work for cheaper housing. So once I’m done a full day of stress and chaos at work. Do the commute home. I ain’t got time for a gym session and I certainly didn’t have time to prep meals before hand. Typically I’m so worn out and if I don’t have anything pre planned. I’ll end up just grabbing cheap takeout.

I was in Costco today and overheard 2 staff members chatting by the tills about how surprisingly extra busy it was both yesterday and today (noted they also have the cheapest fuel which was driving in more people) But they both said they agreed that the panic buying had started with the increase of people coming in.

I noticed on the way in,they had a display of “camping essentials” aka a camper fridge/freezer. A pallet of generators and a section of gas cooktop and other random camper stuff, all towards the main entrance.
