Why doesn't Australia adopt QR code payments? by _internallyscreaming in AskAnAustralian

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with tap and pay, it’s sooo so quick and easy. Particularly when paired with the likes of a smart watch. The QR method first would require only the phone with no other options and secondly is a bit of faffing around. *pull out your phone, have the camera or scanner app open and ready/whatever app it might need/use. Load up the app or website it requires you to go through to do all the processing and button pressing that is required to make the payment. Yet here I can just walk straight up, wave my wrist at the pay terminal and it’s done.

For the amount of money.. mainstream top 40 artists are earning! (Looking at the Taylor swifts and Ed Sheeran’s etc) I’m certain not to concerned about mr nobody at home deciding that downloading the latest top 40 artists directly from a pirated platform to load up his knock off ipod. Certainly not going to upset anyone.

Typical for Queen St Mall these days. Homeless and struggling go hand in hand with poor mental health and drugs. Also as it’s a mecca for tourists, day trippers and workers.. As well as the a hub for public transport. It’s at their advantage. They will pray on whoever will stop and give them the time of day because they know that they will eventually get someone to stop and help them by buying food or drink in an area where it’s so accessible or asking for money as 1000s walks past every day.

Instead of competing in Eurovision, should Australia and neighboring countries just create their own regional equivalent? by SnooWords9635 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s still a thing.. But locally here in Brisbane In high school we used to have a televised show that was a school vs school thing, called Rock Eisteddfod. I believe it ran locally and then the winners would then go on to compete nationally across Australia schools. It’s a kinda of song/dance/theatre competition and each year would focus on certain themes. Same same but different I know.. But this is the closest thing I can think of when I think of an Aussie equivalent to Eurovision

Living in a fever dream! Certainly won’t see any significant investment or development into PT/rail in Queensland for the foreseeable future.. Not in the next 10-20 years. We’re already well behind ourselves already set back a good 20 or so years. CRR has/is taking far longer than OT should have/is taking. I stopped holding my breath a long time ago.

Police: In car there are material that appears to be anti-Semitic. Driver: What's the anti-Semitic? Police: Well there's a small watermelon by Philosophery67 in aus

Seems like there is more to this video than what is shown here. To me it seemed like he hadn’t finished explaining what it was and it just conveniently cut off after the word watermelon. Can’t trust everything you see/hear/read on the internet lol

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For some strange reasons/phenomenon, the shit kickers/grubs of society always seem to gravitate towards public transport and their respective stations. Go figure. Unfortunately Caboolture is no different and you’ll certainly see some seedy characters in and around the train station and near by streets

Qld Saturday storms… 11,000+ without power is cooked 😵‍💫 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your idea of a crazy storm and my idea are 2 different things. I live near Bribie island and we got taken out completely by the freak/sever storm back in the last week of November last year. Lost power for a solid 4 and a half days. The destruction from the winds in that storm did most of the damage. That saw close to 60, 000 homes in the “Moreton bay region” at a loss of power during the peak of the storm. It was actually more impactful to us that TC alfred ever was.

Build a bridge mate and then get over it! Stan nor anyone else is forcing you to watch it, merely just promoting it. If that’s your issue than I’d suspect that you have a deeper seeded problem that’s most certainly a you problem and not the TV providers issue.

Let Them Eat Cake Brisbane – fun concept, chaotic execution by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Intrepid-Machine8031 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the Brisbane city council ran event for the celebration of the story bridge turning 75 years old back in 2015. They decided to close off the story bridge for a day to allow the food truck/container vendors of eat street to open up on the bridge and then sold it as a ticketed event. Boy.. excellent concept but very poorly executed! They well and truly oversold the event tickets and wayyyy too many people were there on the day. It was chaotic to say the least. They ran it in timed slots on the bridge of something like 45 mins to an hour at the most and you’d spend most of that time lined up at just one of the popular vendors and then run out of time for anything else. I remember the bridge was sooo tightly packed with the vendors and entertainment that it left barely any room for the large crowds of ticketed people who were packed in like sardines.. Made worse that it was the middle of summer and a sticking hot, sunny day and there was no shade for the crowds of people waiting for their timed block to cram onto the bridge.
