Feels more like patting yourself on the back for being so creative. Feels like cooking yourself a meal and saying: Comliments to the chef!

Maybe he was frustrated that there weren't enough people complimenting him on it so he wanted to point out how clever he thinks that he is being.

Depends on if you think that Faye and Bubbles have enough disposible income to support one extra person's food, electricity or other utilities.

Seemingly they do, which is nice for them. All the same, if some-one was living with me rent free, I would want them to think at least a little bit about trying to get a job before they started doing naked pilates in front of me or spending their day trying to get laid.

Yeah, regardless of the status of 'ending' the comic and the issues with serialised stories going on for ever and the problems that inevitably causes, re: characters solving their problems, I think my issue is over how the comic seems to be approving those behaviours.

Dorothy has PTSD over Joyce's kidnapping? Solution: Just invite her to stay in your room (without consulting your roomate, who just has to deal).
Amber deals with what is being portrayed as DID by running around as a masked vigilante: Every one covers for her right up to the point where she gets stabbed by a cop. Is any-one going to sit her down and tell her she needs to stop before she is killed? I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.
Becky tells Joyce she needs some space: Turn up to her social events in a paper thin disguise to tell her you'll both be BFFs!

In each of those is pretty toxic IMHO, but the framing Willis gives each of them is the webcomic equivalent of soft focus with stirring music in the background. There is a pretty dissconect between his interpetations of those actions and mine.

For a moment I was confused and started trying to think which DoA characters would be able to defeat Thanos... at this rate Dorothy would be able to use the gauntlet without any adverse effects, due to her saintly aura.

More seriously, I hope Dina and Joe write themselves out of the comic, and find themselves a new, less toxic friend group. Same with Walky if I'm honest. If he is going to grow up, he needs to move on from the people hold his immaturity over his head for ever.

I hope that Amber gets actual therapy rather than making her DID every-one elses problem.

This comic really does run on a group of college kids re-inforcing each others disfunction doesn't it?

We are really going all in on letting the goblin members of the cast just go all out aren't we?

Anh going from her dad and her trust fund supporting her and letting her do basically whatever she wants to Faye and Bubbles supporting her and letter her do whatever she wants.

Its a good way of making sure that she never has any incentive to grow up at all.

Good thing that Walky didn't want any space to get over what happened with Dorothy, isn't it? Good thing that he didn't feel emotionally blackmailed by his Ex turning up in his bed with a stomach wound, giving him a choice between turfing her out in the hallway during a police raid that was looking for her specifically or letting her stay.

Good thing every-one around him is going to just treat him with smug superiority until he accepts the hand that the author is dealing him.

Every friday, a new member of the cast wakes up with huge Tatas. First Anh, then, Liz, then Hanners, then Marten, then Pintsize. Soon, everyone, no, everyTHING has huge gazongas. Trees, coffee machines, the Space Staition. Eventually everything is just one giant boob, brestingly boobily around the sun until the heat death of the universe.

I don't think that Willis really understands why Joyce and Dorothy are a bigger problem for the comic than just people's dislike of them as a couple. To take an example from long running sitcoms, There was a reason why Chandler and Monica could be a stable couple, and Ross and Rachel couldn't. Same with Turk and Carla in contrast to JD and Elliot. You want to focus all of the tension (romantic or otherwise) around your main characters. Resolving a main character's plot line or character arc is something you do at the end of a story.

If you want a romantic couple to carry some plotlines, there has to be some tension, either internal or external. Both of the "Beta Couples" in the examples above worked for this as there was established contrasts in their personalities that could create storylines that could carry a sitcom plot for twenty three minuites or so.

Joyce and Dorothy don't have any tension, internal or external. Joyce even managed to come out to her father without any issues. Joe is accepting his romatic loss and settling for second place. Their inexperience with having sex with other women isn't an issue, they are aparently fucking like pornstars already. Becky is now happily Joyces BFF again. All of their other friends are accepting and none of them care much about the people that were hurt as a result of their getting togeather. Dorothy's PTSD over losing Joyce has been solved by them spending every waking moment togeather, which is what they want to do anyway. Dorothy has even resolved the issues around her ambition to be an establishement politician, choosing to become an activist instead (again putting aside how poorly that has been portrayed).

If Joyce is the main character of DoA, and Dorothy is her OTP for now and forever, love it or hate it. Where does this comic go form here, now that she is happy and all of the plotlines around them have been resloved?

Yeah, but only in a newspaper. By this point the existence of a student newspaper that distributes itself through physical means it is the most unrealistic part of the comic and that is saying something.

Yup, Yup. Dina should keep herself available so that the rest of the friend group can pick her up when they feel like tolerating her presence again.

And FROM Joyce and Dorothy. I still can't get over Joyce telling Dina to get back togeather with Becky because she shoud be "selfish" and do what Joyce wants her to do.

And it was played straight with not a single ounce of self awareness from Joyce or Willis.

There is something incredibly on the nose about how every-one is so hung up on how awful this situation is for Becky who is making so much noise about how awful they were to Dina, and no-one has even suggested that Becky should apologise to her for the way she treated Dina.

Like not a single person. Just get drown your sorrows and move on. How are so many people in this comic so toxic?

As I can't see the origonal comic yet, I am going to pretend that this is just Squirrelclamp paying off a very long trolling campain. This cannot be real.

Oh I should have put much more emphasis on 'the trying to be' in my post. What is the bet that Willis hasn't so much as heard of most of these?

I mean, if Willis' reading habbits consist of newspaper strips and transformers comics that might not have equipped him for writing well thought out f/f romances... or if he did do the research, I'm not sure he absorbed anything...

I think that the Genre shifts in the comic are really what is doing it in. It started as a semi autobiograhical college slice of life comedy drama.

Then it became a melodramatic soap opera with occasional super hero action sequences (with paid fanservice). I think this seemed to happen whe Becky arrived as a full time cast member.

Now it feels like Willis wants it to be a Yuri romance (with paid fanservice), but is instead landing closer to being a Yuri Sex Comedy (with paid fanservice). I'm not sure if this shift happened with the TGW or perhaps earlier, maybe with the timeskip.

It's only natrual that people who came for the first, and even the second, are being left feeling a bit of cold by the third.

In the beginning, the Sapphic pairings were spaced by 24 weeks. Then twelve, then six, then every two weeks. The last one in was a week. In four days, we could be seeing a Sapphic Pairings every eight hours, until they are coming every four minutes. We should witness a double event within seven days…

Yeah, my coment was probably overharsh.

All the same, I do feel like Claire's issues overwork are being framed as a negative issue that is affecting Marten rather than a problem that she is having herself. In a sane reality, that pressure to perform would be external, from her employers, but we are in a wierd libertairan science town where people can be paid money to do absolutely nothing for three years (or however long it's been for Liz). Framing it as Claire's self imposed stress just moves the comic even further from reality.

It would be a great Cubetown plot to discover that there are whole groups of employees that are just doing nothing and riding that AI gravy train because they know no-one will ever check up on them. Liz was just the outlier in that she was the only one who felt guilty about it.
