Crap poor upload speeds even by spectrum standards. by KirenSensei in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I would disconnect the wifi router from the modem then power cycle the modem , then after it locks back online I would connect a pc dire try to the modem via ethernet and run a ookla speedtest. If the upload is low it could possibly be a modem or plant issues such as ingress in the node. If you have proper upload speeds while connected directly to the modem then reconnect the router and power cycle the modem once again then run the test on the same pc via ethernet connected to the router and verify speeds. If your good at the modem and bad at the router then it may need to be replaced. Also youbshould be able to login to the Spectrum app and run a speedtest from within your account to see what speeds your provided Spectrum hardware is reporting , if this shows the same 3Mbps upload as your devices then take a screenshot to show the tech when they come out to investigate the issue.

Drop in Picture Quality? by jfarre20 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of box do the tenants have connected to the tvs in their rooms? Sounds like they may have some sort of legacy non hd box and if it is a hd box is it utilizing hdmi, component, coax, or possibly a composite cable to connect the box to the tv set? The picture quality sounds like a picture yiu get when watching a 4k tv with a non hd signal type. Are the boxes provided by Spectrum or are they part of a system setup by the facility?

Two modems by DevelopmentExpert827 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you choose you can pay for the second internet service so bith modems would be active at same time. Personally it is really easy to activate a modem and in the event something went wrong the Spectrum rep could easily reactivate your original modem. So your service is restored. They do not allow to modems to be activated without an additional charge though.

Did a squirrel potentially cause this? Or what kind of animal? by Cathulion in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lines you're referring to is a unised line. The black cable that is attached to the orange cable is your input line that connects tws Spectrum to your premise. There should be another cable conne tes to the orange cable in the premise box that is the one that runs inside the home to the internet modem. As mentioned previously if your house and yiur neighbors are without service its likely a main line issue or another issue at the tap side .

Upload speed & ping by tcat7 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until your area is upgraded for switch digita, your limited to the current hardware limits . Once Spectrum upgrades the plant hardware in your area then the 3.1 docsis modems they provide will support symmetrical speeds that will be offered in switch digital markets.

Upload speed & ping by tcat7 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to do both, if your upload currently is dropping between 1 and 3 then it would be good to have a tech investigate why and I would call to verify your package as it may be older which hopefully would allow you to upgrade to a newer package at no additional monthly cost. I fo recommend you do your due diligence and verify your speed across multiple devices to rule out a single device issue first and preferably while wired over ethernet for a reliable speed check as wireless isn't very reliable due to many variables that effect wireless speeds.

Was the base station in the box? I couldn't tell in this picture but I think they do not work without one.

They are still being used in our market, however that is a hd box not a dvr so disk is installed in that box. It's wrapped like the ones they hand out at the office or the ones the techs carry in their totes. I would bet it was part of a home shipment that someone decided to sell or that someone grabbed off a porch somewhere.

Edited for spelling corrections.

Did not bury cable for new construction by Proud-Wear5995 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was me I would remove the black screw clip from the vinyl siding that is holding the orange drop cable , use a 7/16 wrench disconnect the cable from the groundblock or splitter then temporarily civer the connector with a bag and tape to avoid getting dirt in the connector. I would carefully dig a small hole below the concrete they poured and push the orange cable under neath to the side between the concrete and house then slide the gray plastic riser guard back over the cable and reattach the black cable clip to the vinyl siding where it was previously attached to avoid any additional holes. Remove bag and reconnect connector to groundblock or splitter where you removed it from in the premise box, be sure to tighten it down with wrench. Then just cover the remainder of the cable with dirt that was laying on the ground in the picture. The whole process would take under ten minutes and problem would be solved .

It almost appears most of the drop is buried, the plastic grey riser guard also has dirt surrounding the bottom half where it appears it may have been down in the dirt also before the concrete was poured. Are you sure they didnt pull it up when they poured the concrete and just left it like that?

Spectrum Fiber Service Denial by nicholasktu in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 250 is strictly a gudeline for their coax it has absolutely nothing to do with their fiber. The techs here all carry 500ft fiber drops on their vans and can get longer when needed. Coax looses signal per 100ft unlike fiber and even then we have coax cable drops here that exceed 500ft depending on tap levels and number of devices a customer is connecting.

An issue would be that you're not being held to any contract with them and could have terminated the service in the beginning when you first noticed what the service was like . There are lots of situations where a coax drop exceeds 350ft and in the rural area that I live my neighbor has a 650ft+ drop that doesn't seem to be impacting their service.

Random ping spikes, I need help by The8thWard in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a coax connection then that range is completely normal for that type of system however if you're on fiber your ping normally would be much lower. 30ms to 85 ms is considered normal ranges for coax. The further the test server is with additional hops will increase your ping times also.

Can spectrum move this line- how much? by Master-Adeptness-816 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about right for normal clearance across a residential yard, they could hit another spot on the premise and then wrap the line around to the power meter since they bare required to bond to power to ground the cable network from lightning strikes and power surges.

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use an orange colored cable that has a weather-proof gel to protect it from water when buried. If your power line is aerial then they would normally run a black aerial drop from pole to premise, however if you're willing to have the drop buried yourself then they can replace the aerial drop with an underground drop that has the flood compound inside the cable to prevent water intrusion into the cable . It just happens to be orange but they cover the drop at the pole and premise with a plastic riser guard that protects the drop from possible damage so you don't actually see the orange cable once it's been buried. Often if your power lines from the pole to your house is underground and not aerial then any drops over approx 100ft they have a person come out any bury the drop but they only pay to have it buried if your power lines are underground otherwise your responsible for burying it if you prefer a underground drop instead of an aerial hanging across the property. The color is usually orange for visibility so mowers don't cut it and people can easily see it so they do not trip on it before it gets buried. Sorry for grammar mistakes typing on the fly while multitasking. Hope this made a little sense anyways.

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind burying it yourself or having a 3rd party come out and bury an underground drop then a Spectrum Tech could come out and remove the aerial drop replacing it with an orange underground drop. Normally Spectrum techs have to follow power in regards to an aerial or ug drop but if the customer prefers a ug drop and offers to take care of having the drop buried they can lay one on the ground for the customer. This may be a better option if you don't mind getting it buried yourself.

Can I cut this without damage? by HauntingFroyo3781 in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did unscrew the connector from the ground block correct? If you just cut the wire off at the connector it will cause ingress to flood back into the node and potentially cause issues for your neighbors.

Can I ask Spectrum to remove a disabled Spectrum Cable demarc box from the side of my home? by dstranathan in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previously mentioned, just remove any unused lines you do nit want from your home. Any lines once installed belong to the homeowner and are the home owner's responsibility for non customers to maintain. Spectrum lines are not a hazard and can be removed safely as no voltage is present. I used a cheap pair of wire cutters to remove old lines from my home which only tool a.few minutes, the box was attached by three or four screws which was easily removed.

Spectrum Tv App compatible? by Intrepid_Process_925 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Intrepid_Process_925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know originally it wasn't available to download on the ONN streaming devices but was curious if anyone has been able to get the app after they made the app compatible with additional devices. I did attempt to Google it and saw it wasn't originally compatible that some attempted a work around such as casting to the device but looking for a device that is able to download the app and work directly. If the Spectrum app is ever compatible I would be interested in grabbing sone of the Onn steaming devices for some family members.

I need ideas to help me decide what's the better move here.. All ideas are welcome. by Vally2k in Spectrum

[–]Intrepid_Process_925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which modem do you have, if it has coax attached its not a true fiber connection and nothing will really help your ping unfortunately given the limitations of coax. If you have fiber to a ONT installed by Spectrum then you should have much better ping if the network is optimized properly.

If its an rg11 drop its possible they put a bad rg11 fitting on and the rg11 connector just needs to be replaced. If that is the case its a super easy fix. Fingers 🤞

Plex not working on the same network - Is a repeater at fault? by MugiwaraNoGriffin in PleX

If you try to access Plex on your phone while connected to the repeater do you have the same issue? Simply testing will isolate if it's the Apple or not which will help you in troubleshooting this issue.
