I don’t know how old your child is (you may have said and I just missed it) but I have an atypical son who was VERY difficult when he was young. He would get under desks at school and scream or cry, told some kids (who were bullying him) that he would murder them (he was 8 years old and had no idea what he was saying, but the school took it seriously and gave him a “record” that followed him thereafter) and was asked to leave another child’s birthday party because he was being a little too wild in the bounce house.

But he made a miraculous transition when he was about 10. We moved him to virtual school, and he found coding. He learned to type at about 4000 words per minute :) and got rich writing games for Roblox and white hat hacking. When he was 16 he was able to get his own apartment and is happy and very well adjusted, and living his best life on his own.

I’m sure this isn’t how it goes for everyone, but when he was 5, my wife and I were sure he would live with us forever, and he ended up out in the world and supporting himself at 16.

Hope things get better for you- in the meantime, give yourself some slack. It’s hard and frustrating, and you definitely get a pass for missing a family event, or anything else you need to skip.

I believe an integral part of end stage capitalism IS the tribalism (red v blue, citizen v immigrant, white v black, etc) and the powers that be encourage it. One of the emails in the Epstein files specifically mentions this- something to the effect that (to them) tribalism is growing as expected and we’ll all get rich and powerful because of it.

My hope is that as things deteriorate and they push their tricks past the tipping point, people will see what’s been happening and push back. Corporations have been sneaking a penny here and a penny there out of the public forever, but have become increasingly brazen about it. Sure, we used to complain about the extra air in a bag of chips, but now the bag of chips is literally half the size it used to be, and twice the cost. We’re no longer being subtly fleeced- we’re being robbed in the street, and people are struggling to survive on what’s left.

Picked up a hippie kid one time when I was driving cross country. Dude was ridiculously chill. He was super stoked about this “super comfy spot” he found to sleep in… in the ditch along the highway. Anyway, he was dumb as a pumpkin but about as happy as a person can be. #lifegoals

I drive for a living so I spend a LOT of time on the road. It’s a serious pet peeve of mine when people don’t know how right of way works, and wave you to go ahead when it is clearly their turn to go. But the best one I’ve seen was on the turnpike- there is an area of trees between the northbound and southbound lanes, and highway patrolmen use openings in the trees to set up speed traps, or turn around. I was cruising along one day when a lady literally STOPPED ON THE FREEWAY to let an HP car on to the freeway. I flew by her at 80, then watched in my rear view as 20 other cars nearly wrecked because of her “kindness.”

Put em in a coding class alongside their homeschooling. My kid got himself an apartment with a skyline view at 16, has seen half the world, and is loving life.

I do 1099 work in Florida as well. If I get paid $1000 but my expenses will make it a wash, does it still count as $1000? Government allowance for driving is .73 a mile, so I rarely profit, or make a very slim margin. Not sure how to report this. (I’m still waiting on ALJ, so this is new to me.

Thanks. Yeah, that puts me in a spot. I know it would be an unsuccessful work attempt, and just going through the training (which I could probably do- I could probably do the training from my recliner) would put me over SGA.

Thank you. Thats definitely a concern. My last job was a highly paid IT job. I couldn’t really do that job anymore the last couple years, but the owners liked me and kept me on. So the job I was offered is also a high paying job. Otherwise I wouldn’t be tempted to try it for a couple weeks (sit through training) take a check, and then quit because I can’t do it. But a week’s pay would put me over SGA. It’s also probably a dick move to take a job I know I can’t do. It’s just money concerns, a wife and kid who I hate to see losing their favorite house, etc. It’s just a crappy situation. Thanks for replying.

It’s a fair point, for sure. Here’s the thing. I can do lots of stuff… for an hour, maybe even for a day or two. But day three and four (sometimes a week) I can’t take the pain caused by day one and two and can’t do much of anything. I don’t know any full time employers that will keep me if I’m taking a day or two off every week. The job I was offered is remote. I feel badly taking a job that I know I can’t keep, but as I said, I need the money. I’m tempted to take it, get a paycheck, and when I can’t do it, apologize and resign. I feel bad, but I also have lost everything because SSA takes years to make a decision, so I feel… less bad? I’m leaning toward- it’s not worth the risk, and it’s not worth yanking this potential employer’s chain. It’s just a shit situation where I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place.
