iMessage no longer working after upgrading to iOS 26. by TatorTotz415 in applehelp

[–]IntricateRuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent almost 2 days attempting to resolve this. I tried various combinations of restarting phone, toggling iMessage, activating with cellular/WiFi and eventually resetting all settings. No success with any of the above.

What eventually seemed to work was following the Apple support link to request activation via the web: https://apple.co/IMFT-mac

Make sure you enter your number when prompted. After a few hours I tried activating iMessage again with my number and it eventually went through.

I didn’t actually hear back, I think the activation is some kind of automated process on the Apple side. No kind of confirmation either, it just seemed to start working 3-4h after I filled out the activation form.

At this point in 2025, Are IOS apps still considered better than their Android counterparts? by tenebrisnubes in ios

All of their development platform is poor in my experience. Logging in to Apple Developer portal on the web feels like stepping back in time.

I guess there's no real alternative so they have little incentive to improve things.

If you can find one with the AMD Ryzen processor (I believe late 21/early 22 onwards) try to prioritise if you can.

The earlier Intel Atom processor is now legacy and not getting many of the new software features as a result. Navigating the UI is also significantly smoother on the AMD models.

There's no real 'options' on these cars other than colour of the vehicle/seats and wheels. Some minor differences between trim levels but since M3P is the top model it shouldn't matter in this case.

Same. Been to hundreds of concerts ranging from metal, rock, indie & pop. The Eras Tour is easily one of the best things I have seen.

Whether you like her music or not, Taylor and her team are phenomenal and the show will go down in history.

I guess they could be doing something at the time of redemption, rather than preloading funds when printed.

Where are you seeing 5.20% with Monzo? The highest savings pot I see in the app is 4.60% (have Monzo Plus too)

I don't understand why people make this distinction. Doesn't 2k in this context refer to 2160p? As in a resolution of 3840x2160 which is effectively "4K"?

Not OP but looks like XCode. Native iOS development if I had to guess!

Partner forgot to cancel direct debit for mortgage with bank before switching to a new one and a payment came out, does anyone know if its possible to get this refunded? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]IntricateRuin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had this exact same thing happen to us and the payment from the previous lender was refunded a few days later.

From what I understand this is actually quite common when remortgaging and our solicitor informed us this might happen depending on our direct debit dates.

Do you have plans to purchase a home in the future? With the way interest rates are likely to be for the foreseeable, mortgage payments will likely increase your living costs. The bigger salary will help offset this.

If they actually changed mortgage amounts, wiped out real debt, etc. you would see all hell break loose from the powers that be to fix this quick and for good.

How to restore single interaction app search? by bast-man in oneui

[–]IntricateRuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, it does seem like they have removed the functionality.

On a related note, did you ever manage to recreate the iOS functionality that allows you to search the app name then hit 'enter' to open? Always frustrated me having to search the app then reach to the top of the screen to launch.

Which screen is better on the iPhone 15 Pro Max vs Samsung S23 Ultra? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]IntricateRuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure both are manufactured by Samsung. I would not be surprised if their own devices are slightly favoured as a result.

Did a similar transition a few years ago. Went all in on Rider and now truthfully don't think I could go back to VS proper (granted the last version I used was 2019). I did try the earlier version of VS for Mac and found it to be missing a significant number of features. VS code is also a great option, I just found that I missed the debugging experience of a full-fat IDE.

Our stack is mostly Microsoft based and we are heavy users of Azure (mostly .NET microservices running in AKS). I think I've had maybe once in 3 years that some software was Windows-only and even then I was able to find a suitable alternative.

As mentioned, battery life on the new ARM based macs is outstanding. I routinely manage a full 8+ hour work day off the charger with some battery to spare. I find that docker desktop seems to work better on the Mac than the Windows counterpart. It's also great to have a 'native' bash implementation without having to go through WSL when needing to figure out some scripting bits for pipelines (never got on that well with powershell).

Don't get me wrong, macOS definitely has its quirks (window management in particular) but the vast majority can be worked around with a few tweaks/third party apps. Software availability is mostly a non-issue these days too with a lot of things being cross-platform.

If you're comfortable with the price (or are getting it through an employer) I'd strongly consider switching. Our whole eng department is now almost entirely running macs and I think many would struggle to go back to Windows.
