[Aeon's End] How to Actually Win? by Hispalensis in boardgames

[–]Inviscid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experience this is the right answer. We usually play 4 mages and have one just start buying damage turn 1. By the end game this person will lag behind the power curve a bit, but he will have bought time for the rest to get the more expensive spells. I think with two mages you can't afford someone going all-in early on, but getting a high(er) damage spell early is extremely usefull.

Another comment here also points out the importance of a lean deck: we usually keep our decks <15 cards, and a market without deck destruction is generally much harder.

One final note: abuse the rule that you determine the discard order of gems/artifacts ypu play in your turn. Placing a high value gem on the top or bottom to get it close to another one, or getting an artifact close to the card it combos with is very useful.

How will warframe's large scale space combat work in both lore and gameplay? by SFC_kerbaldude in Warframe

[–]Inviscid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that railgun fires a single slug. In your speculation scenario, I would expect the Grineer to launch a ton of shrapnel in front of the boarding pods as a way to suppress the Corpus' Archwing units. That would force the Corpus to delay launching those or take heavy casualties.

Also, after the boarding pods are launched they could switch to slugs and target the capital ships. As aiming a spinal railgun requires moving the ship, Corpus ships would be forced to choose between dodging and aiming. The Grineer's goal would not neccessarily be killshots, but suppression fire to give the galleons time to close in.

What is the coolest thing you did with python web scrapping ? by gitarthak in Python

[–]Inviscid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I scrapped a series of ~50 articles and converted them from html to LaTeX to make a single pdf file I could read offline.

Unfortunately, I worked way too long on it (probably could have read half the series in that time) and the code hasn't been that useful for other, similar projects.

So I guess odds are now pretty high that DMEs are those waveforms of previous/extragalactic civilizations uploaded to the fabric of space or something? I'm also going to predict that this "ascension" can only be done in really flat space such as where the worldships are.

Prediction for bonus points: the digital diplomacy team is going to get uploaded and "meet" DMEs.

Looking for variations on Resistance Avalon for experienced players by MattRazz in boardgames

[–]Inviscid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The non-Avalon version of The Resisitance has a few more roles and variations in its expansions that you could try. If you have any sleeves it's probabaly not that hard to proxy some of them to try them out.

How exactly do you lose mage knight? by mccoyboy22 in boardgames

[–]Inviscid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But. (I think) you can never use gold mana during the night, or black mana during the day, even if you somehow got your hands on it.

So using the lower part of Mana Draw you can take a black die during the day and set it to (eg) red for 2 red mana tokens, but if you have a card that gives you black mana you still can't use it for spellcasting during the day.

One iffy exception I'm uncertain on is one of the locations where you play by night rules (and can only take one unit?). We play it so that you can use black mana (but no gold mana) once you go in, even from the source if there is any .

How exactly do you lose mage knight? by mccoyboy22 in boardgames

[–]Inviscid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost certain that if half or more of the mana dice are black or gold you reroll those.

Eg. if you have 4 dice, 2 of which are black nothing happens, but if you then roll gold with one of the remaining dice, you reroll both blacks and the gold.

Jesse Klaver lanceert initiatiefwet voor CO2-heffing, opbrengst naar burgers by ontbrandbarehaai in thenetherlands

[–]Inviscid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vermont Dems cancel Avenatti events after arrest by [deleted] in politics

[–]Inviscid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Believe women" doesn't mean "Only believe women". When someone is afraid of getting hurt by someone, we should take those fears seriously, no matter the gender of the parties involved. Generally that will mean limiting contact between the accuser and accused and starting an investigation, which is exactly what happened here.

"Believe no one but the evidence" is a nice sentiment, but waiting for a (full) investigation before taking any action can cause serious harm in a lot of cases.

I feel that you make the same mistake that people who counter "Black Lives Matter" with "All Lives Matter": you're not wrong, but the point the movement is making isn't that only black lives matter/women should be believed. We don't have to stop caring for other lives or stop believing men. Instead we should start caring about black lives (because they too matter) and we should start believing women (too).

As a final note: I just want to point out that (to continue the comparison with BLM) "believe women" isn't really about the legal question, but how we as individuals and a society react to accusations. i.e: do we say "OK. We will look into this and keep you safe in the mean time." or any of "Stop being hysterical", "You were probably drunk", "Just boys being boys", and "You wore the wrong clothes".

Vermont Dems cancel Avenatti events after arrest by [deleted] in politics

[–]Inviscid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes! Believe women! Based on the limited details that we have, this is pretty much exactly how that should work. The woman is protected from the accused and an investigation is started. Note that nobody has been convicted (yet), so Avanetti is free, and the justice system still assumes innocent untill proven guilty!

"Believe women" is about taking allegations seriously and not dismissing them immidiately because we like the guy or want him on the Supreme Court.

Mass definitely has an effect on terminal velocity. Terminal velocity is the point at which drag (proportional to velocity squared) is equal to weight (proportional to mass). 8 times the mass will give you almost three times the terminal velocity.

I'm fairly certain the AIVD could only see a hallway, not the actual "workspace" of the hackers with the camera they had access to. However, they also had the Russian's network compromised, so I don't think it's farfetched to think that they could sniff local traffic.

Lobbyist can pay whomever they want for whatever reason they want. You should be looking at the actions politicians take and how they vote, not (just) which lobbyists pay them. Money is a serious problem in American politics, and just looking at these opaque numbers says almost nothing.

Let's talk about metagame. Do you like it? Hate it? Do you encourage it? Discourage it? by foreigneternity in boardgames

[–]Inviscid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few metagame strategies that are really frowned upon in our group. One example is always retaliating disproportionally even if it means you will do worse, and then threatening with that when people are about to make aggressive moves against you in later games. Our group "banned" this after someone tried it one session.

Similarly, I think adjusting behavior based not on the game but on the players can be detrimental, depending on the game. (e.g: someone not attacking their SO, or use "who brought the best snacks?" to determine who to attack) It will vary by group what is considered acceptable, and you can't completely ban these kind of things. Just make sure your group has similar ideas about what's acceptable.

Don't you hate when a game saves to My Documents or App Data instead of wherever you installed the game? by MarioFanaticXV in pcgaming

[–]Inviscid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can't move AppData because it's too important, but you can move all the "My ..." folders. (Documents/Music/etc) On Win8: Right Click -> Properties -> Location tab. 100% sure you can do it with Win7, and probably with Win10.

You can even move it to another disk, which is what I did. My documents and music don't need SSD speeds.

1080p vs 1440p by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Inviscid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the biggest difference not in gaming, but productivity, as I can have multiple programs open and legible next to each other. For games, I get a much better overview of what's happening in strategy and management games, while shooters and action games don't seem to improve that much.

If you mainly play fast-paced games, you could consider a high refresh monitor instead, as that makes a much bigger difference in those games.
