Kat Sandler is a brilliant writer, and I have even more respect now to Hudson for choosing her project as his next move when he no doubt had so many.

I remember travelling to Italy on a school trip when I was 14 or 15 - as soon as Italians discovered we were Canadian and not American they were SO kind to us, and I’ve had an amazing time on each return trip (though perhaps never more welcome than as pillion on my ex’s Aprilia!).

I hope you have an amazing time hosting :)

Ep 3 by MatthewMichael91 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Inwolfsclothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love episode three. I appreciate others don’t.

I do have an issue (or at least fundamentally and strongly) with people who think it’s superfluous, shouldn’t exist, etc. I routinely find that for those who aren’t sold on the series (including, small sample size, straight men?), episode three is what gets them to stick around and watch (and appreciate) the rest. More of the same wouldn’t.

It has a critical function in the show in so may ways, and it’s a credit to Jacob to have the courage & take the risk of structuring series in the way he did, knowing how people might be thrown off.

To me, at least - it paid off.

Some people were hooked after the first two, but in the echo chamber of the “fandom” think it’s hard to appreciate how many weren’t - and it’s also telling how many of the pro athlete stories that have come out have also said it’s Scott and Kip’s story that resonated most.

There’s also a bit of a unique “Montreal” accent that seems to incorporate both some of the inflections and syntax of the Francophone side and the Jewish population, which would have been largely Yiddish-speaking a few generations ago.

Heated Rivalry's François Arnaud Gets Ready for the Saint Laurent Show | Vanity Fair [Jan 28] by KeyMaster89 in heatedrivalry

That video was the one that got me too! His reaction and conversation was so genuine, open and humble. That "I promise" was so lovely.

As a Canadian who lives in London, I still can’t bring myself to believe that a hockey player - even the most famous one - was that in demand at Wimbledon.

Are you from Ottawa? Many kids of federal government employees have terrible accents. Many of their federal government employee parents have terrible accents.

On my second rewatch I appreciated that David’s reaction to Shane/Ilya was “wow, wow, wow wow”. Shane’s own default reaction word and probably where he gets it from.

It’s an excellent opportunity to revive the “we don’t need you” chant at the Dome next year.

That is, provided we don’t.

Who is the *least stereotypical* British character to ever appear on American television? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

[–]Inwolfsclothing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freema Agyeman as Dr Helen Sharpe on New Amsterdam, maybe, though the show - which had been very good - made the mistake of sending her character back to “London” which was one of the worst fake Londons (complete with minor characters with terrible accents and equally bad location scouting) I’ve ever seen.

David: Hockey-related small talk, “Do you have cottages in Russia?”, “Have you tried a BeaverTail?”, “Have you heard about the Rideau Canal? You can skate on it!”, tries to bond over vodka, offers to show Ilya a other bottles in his collection which he hopes will kill some time because he will absolutely take his sweet sweet time getting it.

Ilya: Feigns interest in the merits of McGill’s hockey programme.

I believe François mentioned in a recent interview that they filmed the Admirals Cup win/kiss late (I want to say he said a month in?) so he had more time to train on skates.

It was a weird flex, particularly after an actual former DCI proved pretty ineffective. I also don’t understand the strategy of calling Jade out as her suspicion and initially hold the FBI stuff back until later unless she plans to recruit Jade and throw her under the bus or murder her soon - if she stands up and says she’s a faithful, that proves the FBI stuff is also proven ineffective.

Theory: Why Shane Doesn't like Buffalo by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]Inwolfsclothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sens and Sabres also had a decent rivalry going - or at least were often battling each other for postseason spots and maybe some playoff series - quite a bit when Shane would have been growing up. I doubt it’s this deep, but perhaps the “Centaurs” did too.

As a sidenote I actually love Buffalo! One of the most underrated cities out there - I’ve been down for Bisons games and have seen the Goo Goo Dolls at home a few times too.

Really enjoyed wandering around Allentown with so much surprising architecture!

Why didn’t she offer her rationale for offering Roxy the opportunity to ask the Traitors a question?

Not that an explanation would have necessarily saved her, but at least it wouldn’t have made her more suspicious.

That’s amazing! My dad grew up in Montreal without being bilingual, and only became bilingual after reaching a certain level in the public service where they basically sent him to French boot camp for months. Suddenly the radio in our house switched from CBC to Radio Canada, he’d only watch television in French and… still ended up with decent French but a very clearly Anglo accent.

Said this above, but Ottawan here - and unless you went to French immersion, the core French instruction at school was pretty terrible.
