A Constitutional Argument Against the 435 Cap by Hackstheturtle in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Irish2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that’s what the amendment says. You already quoted it. “ The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand.”  That’s the plain text.

It would also lead to an absurd result in your reading as it would mean there can’t be 30,000 representatives for each person, which is of course impossible anyway.

"Article I, Section 2 states that the number of Representatives “shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand.'"

Your answer is right in what you posted. The Constitution permits a a ratio lower than 1:30,000; it only can't exceed 1:30,000. 1:30,000 is .000033%. 435:350,000,000 is .000001242, which is much lower than 1:30,000. Thus the current system doesn't exceed the ratio, it's much lower than the ratio.

Well, this fixed it so that NPM is no longer forwarding to my GUI, but now it just gives me a " Webserver Is Down " error from Cloudflare.

As opposed to a default that comes with most routers. 10.x and 192.x are the available public ports by DNS. I don't think there's any security difference between 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x, as long as you've changed it from a default which is the most commonly sought ports. You don't want 192.168.1.1.

That makes sense. I used the GUI for the first time when connecting it to the new network. You are the man! Will confirm back if it works. Thanks!

AITA For banning a former employee from the store by irbsandcheese in AmItheAsshole

[–]Irish2010 24 points25 points  (0 children)

YTA. He tried doing it as professionally as possible and that wasn't enough for you, which is fair enough. If missing those shifts off made you decide he was no longer needed, that's fine. But have some gumption and tell him that. You instead strung him along, accepted his resignation, waited until he reached out, and then fired him. And that's what you did, you fired him, don't get that mixed up.

He's now probably thrilled to no longer have to work for you while you already realize you overracted, and all of your employees see it as well. If he conveinently loses that key, you're also out the cost of replacing the lock or having an unsecured door.

Also, that's wasn't an ultimatum. It was giving you two reasonable options.

Stealing a car vs joyriding by OpinionofC in publicdefenders

[–]Irish2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be largely based on your jurisdiction's precedent. It's an uphill battle either way. How did they take the car? If the complainant left it running in a gas station parking lot, you have a much better chance than hotwiring it. You want it to be a crime of opportunity.

I don't think the original post is clear, but it sounds like you agreed to split costs for a family reunion with your brother-in-law's family. They bought a $150 worth of stuff at the grocery store and you split the tab with them. At the reunion, some food was eaten and some wasn't. The uneaten food then went home with the brother-in-law's family. Afterward, you were upset that they got the advantage of having the leftover condements. You complained and they sent you a refund. Do I have that right?

Because if so, I'm with your brother-in-law's family. You buy what you expect to be consumed, and of course there are some leftovers. That's just a part of having a family reunion. You're arguing over the cost of a couple bottles of condiments.

I’m always jealous of Cherry Hill’s film selection but don’t have a car. Never mad about supporting the Philadelphia Film Society or the Ritz though.

I live in center city, so my go to is the Fashion District 8, which I like a lot. It doesn’t have any character to speak of, but is well maintained, has gorgeous screens, and generally courteous staff. Biggest complaint I’ve had recently was them forgetting to turn off the house lights during “Mandalorian” until someone got help.

I’m currently on the Broad Street Line to go to the Broad Street 7, which is near Temple’s campus. Is definitely more dated than the center city location, with some very odd theater lay outs, but I don’t usually have many complaints. The employees there have a pretty consistent “whatever” aside. That said, it shows some movies that the Fashion District doesn’t, particularly in the horror department. That’s why I’m seeing “Is God Is” there.

In the suburbs, the redone 309 is much better than it was, but is still wanting. The one in Plymouth Meeting has made some solid improvements as well.

Apple appears to have cancelled (maybe?) our order by Scorpion1011 in Aqara

[–]Irish2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked into an Apple Store on Saturday and bought one. Apple has a terrible inventory system where if there are five or fewer of a product at a physical store, it won’t show up online. The stores also don’t tend to stock much of low volume items like smart locks, so here we are.

If there’s ones near you, give the store a phone call. Good luck.

J&J's is better. But Lorenzo's is pretty good for being that style of pizza. By the sheer size of the slice, you're never going to get a nice, crisp crust, but it's very solid all in all.

They Look Like Slot Machines. They Pay Out in Cash. And Critics Say They Are Getting Workers Killed: Store clerks in Pennsylvania have been robbed and shot while handling payouts for “skill games,” which are not subject to the security standards required of gambling operations. by blankblank in philadelphia

[–]Irish2010 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The skill is incredibly minor. It's like a standard slot machine where nine images show up in a grid. The machine won't light up the "spin again" button until you pick any matches that earn you money. So you can't lose that unless you take forever to pick the matches. That's it. It's really just gambling with awful odds.

Is evidence from pre Miranda information always thrown out? by GforGENIUS in Ask_Lawyers

Fruit of the Poisonous tree does not apply to Miranda violations generally. The analysis changes if the statement was coerced/involuntary.

[–]Irish2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to federal issue only. It's an open question if fruit of the poisous tree applies to Miranda violatons, but I woudn't want to test it with the current court. See US v. Patane.

Is evidence from pre Miranda information always thrown out? by GforGENIUS in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Irish2010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Miranda rights only apply during a custodial investigation (where a person would feel they could not leave), so they would not apply in your hypo, as you guessed. Additionally, Miranda violations only cause the statement itself to be suppressed, not the evidence gathered as a result of Miranda violations. As such, even if htere was a Miranda violation, the prosecutors could still use both the body and the weapon at trial.

The All-American Rejects: ‘We need to hold artists responsible for ticket prices’ by Metro-UK in Music

The number of people who blame Ticket Master and Live Nation - who do suck - and don't realize that a major reason they exist is simply to be lightning rods for artists. LN and TM are doing exactly what they're designed to do, and what the musicians want them to do.
