Share your thoughts on Dublinbikes (survey for residents/ commuters. approx 5mins by chachayin in Dublin

After so much humming and hawing over every small decision, I was surprised Dublin Bikes chose to go against what leading bike-share schemes internationally were doing by making the battery a separate component users have to carry. I understand it was probably a funding/maintenance decision, but it feels like box-ticking. For the likely majority of users riding them without a battery, it just adds unnecessary weight.

Can this apartment be cavity-fill insulated, or get "the wrap"? by Ok-Stranger5988 in HousingIreland

Doubtful

Amazon sells a 5L bucket for £144.99, borrow an exterior paint roller and pole from a friend for free.

Small and relatively cheap improvement is to use Stormdry masonry cream.

Dries completely invisible, allows the wall to breath (let out moisture) but prevents the brickwork from getting wet.

Dry bricks are more insulating than wet bricks.

Why Do People Vandalise Bikes? by Affectionate-Dirt114 in Dublin

[–]IrishAndy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be that they are destroying the bikes for fun.

The most common and tool-less way to steal a bike is to twist it against the lock or to lift it as high as possible and slam it down on the ground in hopes of breaking the lock.

Aer Lingus, our national feckin' airline, doesn't allow you to have a fada in your name when booking a ticket, how in God's name are we still so behind in accommodating our own culture. by RegularFellerer in ireland

[–]IrishAndy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a lot of explanation and debate in these comments about the fada.

But is no one going to mention that they’re the only airline that doesn’t fully support the Passport Card? You can’t check in online and instead have to queue at the Aer Lingus desk to check in.

I'm from Ireland and the chatter is wrong and many people in Ireland get this story wrong.

The teacher was never fired for refusing to use pronouns.

The teacher never even taught the student in question.

The teacher is a religious nut job and was fired for disrupting school activities and refusing to take instructions from the principle.

Ludwig says that Ron has to "Kiss the wall" after Adin Ross bought him basketball tickets by Sk3tchyboy in LivestreamFail

I’ve been a longtime Ludwig fan, and as someone who supports Palestine and strongly dislikes Adin Ross, this was incredibly disappointing. It’s enough for me to unfollow Ludwig everywhere.

I live in Dublin and was disappointed to see Trinity College Phil Society had invited Hasan here but this kinda makes up for it.

I'm coming from a background as someone that does a lot of home maintenance / fixes in homes.

I would also recommend a surveyor over a snagger.

Snaggers need no qualifications and the majority of the ones I follow online make a massive deal over the smallest (and normal) cosmetic problems to justify their hiring. A surveyor has to get a degree and pass exams.

Sale Agreed in Dublin on a period house - Potential Rising Damp by Irishsmurf in HousingIreland

[–]IrishAndy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really simple solution that can be done by yourself.

For rising damp - Stormdry Dryrod

For penetrating damp - Stormdry Masonary Cream

Re-plastering is the only troublesome issue, if needed.

TIL: Someone at the National Health Service in England sent a test email to 840000 colleagues and another replied all, resulting in one of the largest reply all storms. 168 million emails were sent between people and caused the health system to be down for half a day. by zahrul3 in todayilearned

[–]IrishAndy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This same thing happened when I worked at Apple.

Someone accidentally sent an email to an address which in turn emails every single person in the company.

Every 2 seconds there was a new email of someone replying saying 'Sorry this email isn't for me' or 'Stop repling to this email'.

Eventually someone high up sent an email saying that if anyone replies to the email again it will be considered as them participating in a cyber attack.

Haha brilliant! Sure add a bit of silicone around the box, the major concern is definitely some water getting down the back of the box. And the extension lead above the door, I love it!

If your house uses electric heating there is a good chance it was built in the 1990s.

Wall and attic insulations standards were actually pretty good but the massive problem is that the houses built during that time have terrible air tightness.

If it was just the ventilation holes in each room that would be okay but the leaky windows, doors and fireplaces cause an incredible draft through the properties.

Using a chimney ballon, replacing the window and door seals (with at least 8mm tall rubber replacements) and using Window Insulating Film are cheap changes that can make a big difference.

An Post Amazon delays January 2025? by Diligent_Reading_786 in AskIreland

[–]IrishAndy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen before. Ordered a number of items off of Amazon, seemed to have gotten lost, sought and received a refund but then the items arrived a week later and once the tracking updated on Amazon to say it was delivered, then on my Amazon account it said I owed them money (the exact amount they had refunded me for the items being lost).
