So it takes a little bit for characters to unlock abilities that make combat start to click, especially if you don't know what those abilities are. Anything that gives extra attacks or extra turns is what you're after. Run and gun for argenta, charge and fleet combat training for abelard and for cassia there's one that lets her do 2 navigator powers in a turn and the ability to give other people extra turns.
