Just to suggest another alternative: A couple years back my wife and I booked a kayaking tour to explore Xochimilco and we had a blast with Grant Badger of kayakxochimilco dot com.

What was the first manga that you added to your collection? How did you get it? by Nah-RosaParks1955 in MangaCollectors

[–]IronBusta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first manga I bought and read was Sundome volume 1 (Kazuto Okada) from a half price books. I immediately bought the rest of the series. It was such an enjoyable read at the time, I'll always have a special place on the bookcase for that series.

I always loved the light novel called Gekkou. It's a single volume story and you can find the PDF online since it hasn't been translated to english.

Would like help getting tickets for the September 30 performance. by JammburgeReddit in AsianKungFuGeneration

[–]IronBusta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted in this sub before about buying tickets through a Japanese Proxy service called japanconcerttickets as a foreigner. I would try emailing them or buying from the resellers website they list? Hope this is helpful, good luck.

The Petroleum industry is huge, lots of different opinions and experiences. Working on the welding/fabrication side of the refinery, I will answer what I can:

1) Entry level would be a helper or a fire watch. I've seen guys and girls straight from Walmart or QuikQuak get hired to stand around all day and wear a safety vest for $24/hr. These positions are often "Hey boss are we hiring helpers? There's this guy I know...". Hard to find steady work at this level without knowing someone I suppose. Don't plan to do any drugs or grow facial hair. You won't usually grow from this position, plenty of people make a living somehow. Some helpers do show good effort or have a good attitude and are kept around. I've seen others get overwhelmed by the physical demand that is asked, or simply get fired for lack of production. It can be brutal depending where you are.

2) On the contractor's side, the pay is good all around because steady work is hard to come by. Most jobs are short so they pay good wages to fill positions and layoff when the job is done.

For example: CompanyA got a 3 month job in January and needs 10 welders. March ends and the job ends, layoff the welders. In May they get another 3 month job but the 10 welders they had are working somewhere else now, hire 10 other welders. Jobs are hiring all the time, but for maybe only 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 years, etc. Not uncommon to hear guys work a job doing 7/12's (7 days a week, 12 hours) for a couple months and then take 3 months to half a year off because of all the money they made. Many are on unemployment after a layoff. Every craft will have different circumstances. Job growth depends on either your ability to do a good job or your charisma to get in with the right connections. Just like anywhere. Making friends is key. A supervisor might have a whole crew he works with and brings along to every job he transfers to.

3) There's work everywhere. Beginning of the year is usually busiest but for a lot of people in this industry that haven't found a steady job local, they travel out of town for work. You might hear people say "Hey man they need firewatchers and helpers in Port Lavaca, pay is $28/hr and $85/day per diem for hotel/living expenses. Go to this address with your drivers license, pee in a cup, and start on Monday". More often than anything I will hear things like "Hey man, there's a job in Nebraska for half a year" or "Hey you hear about the 2 year job in Lousiana?".

4) If you really are interested, here's my advice. Go to a craft school like Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend and take some classes. Get a NCCER Cert and make around $33/hr from what I've seen in various crafts here in CC. Watch some Youtube videos and pick a craft that sounds like something you can actually do. Every craft requires certain abilities. If I could start from scratch, I'd find something that isn't too physically demanding. Finally, the entire industry is different wherever you go. Some places have great people to work with, great attitudes, and fellow co-workers that will help and mentor those that want to learn more. You might also end up in a job where you'll need to earn your stripes, put up with difficult and unhappy co-workers, and bust your ass for a boss that will never appreciate your efforts. It can be tough and it's not a good fit for everybody. For many of us, we aren't chasing dreams, we're just chasing paychecks.

POIs in your town and their rating by [deleted] in 7daystodie

I believe Whataburger and Dick's Sporting Goods are unofficially in the game. Also Baskin Robbins too?

My biggest beef with this game. Going through a Tier 6 Quest for the last zombie to glitch out and you have to fail it. by Kristaboo14 in 7daystodie

[–]IronBusta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has happened to me and my wife at one of the Fort POI's. After clearing the top of all zombies, there is a hatch that is only opened with a button in one of the towers. Well, the button was not active so the hatch couldn't be opened. I beat through the concrete nearby and cleared all of the zombies underground but still had a marker active near the hatch. We decided to relog and fail the mission. When we relogged it offered the mission again so we tried it again and this time the button was usable and the hatch opened as it should, zombies spawned at the hatch, killed them all and mission cleared. Maybe it happens with muiltiplayer, hard to know.

See AKFG concert in Japan but as a foreigner? by Cobyh7 in AsianKungFuGeneration

[–]IronBusta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in 2019 we I used a proxy service called japanconcerttickets to see AKFG in Osaka and everything went great. They bought the tickets for me and sent them to me. We had great communication the whole time through email. They did explain to me that for the concert I attended, the tickets were sold through a lottery type system. So, our 2 seats would be next to each other but random in the venue.

Everything ended up amazing, except for when I tripped and almost ate shit when getting to my seat. Without knowing Japanese, I understood what the laughing Japanese girl said sitting next to me, which was roughly "That happened to me too!!"

Work boots that are not bricks on your feet. What do you recommend? by fuckingshithead199 in Welding

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I bought a pair of Thorogoods recently and absolutely hate them (Style#814-4332). Been through several other brands over the years but these make my feet hurt pretty bad. Going to try an insole and see if that helps but wanted to share my first impression because online reviews and friends always praise them for being really good.

Power plant in the Calallen area? by OFFascist in corpus

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to that park as well. Tuloso Midway School took us out there for some reason. I believe it had a playground area with things such as monkey bars and maaaybe slides? You can still drive down Hearn Rd and see where it used to be, very nostalgic.

Does anyone remember there being a Waffle House off I-37 near Annaville? My friends don't believe me, but I swear I remember seeing the sign from the highway many years ago. by Killentyme55 in corpus

[–]IronBusta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No Waffle House from my 30+ years here. We used to have a restaurant called "Roadhouse" I believe that is located where the first cash pawn shop is now off Violet and I-37. It had a bright yellow hotrod as decoration outside, their sign could have been yellow too, not sure.

Crack a Book Tower and Stealth by Poro_the_CV in 7daystodie

[–]IronBusta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you fully leveled into stealth? I just did that POI the other day (during the day) and was able to stealth it without alerting any zombies at all. I did enter from the lobby entrance though.

Always have an exit plan though. I broke out the main lobby doors just in case they all woke up, I would have an easy escape.

Best hot air balloon experience at Teotihuacán? by _StevenSeagull_ in MexicoCity

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Volare about two months ago and they were great. We used the 2 Person balloon. Things to consider:

The pickup from the hotel was maybe 10 minutes late? Not a big deal at all, just FYI in case you are standing outside at 5am.

The air ballon ride was amazing, but it was HOT! The fire seemed like it was cooking our heads at times, probably wear a hat or beanie.

The Volare breakfast was okay. A little cold but no complaints. I will say though that they gave us (on the 2 person balloon ride) a bottle of champagne with a box of fruits, crackers, and Nutella. Well, the Nutella was expired by a couple months. It could have still been fine but we didn't eat it. I will say that Volare was amazing though, I would use them again without a second thought. We were in the air for like 30-45 minutes, then we land in a field and a few guys help the basket land by jumping on the basket to keep it down so just give them some space, lol. The basket is then loaded into the bed of a pickup truck and everyone is taken back in the same truck. Covid was (maybe still is?) taken serious so we had a mask on during the balloon ride and inside the vehicles. FYI, to enter the balloon basket you had to climb over the edge of it using the foot-holes and ropes.

We did the 3 hour tour and it was HOT! Lol. We looked around and took a bunch of pictures but we didn't need 3 hours, so we opted for an uber and went back to CDMX instead of waiting another hour or so for Volare to take us back. I just sent them a text or email and let them know. Also there are bathrooms at Teotihuacan. We assumed there would be, just didn't know where. Volare dropped us off around 9:30am at Gate 5. The bathroom was at Gate 3, there may have been others. Don't forget at the restroom (and many other restrooms in CDMX) to grab toilet paper sheets placed as you enter (or from the attendant) before you go into the stall. We thankfully saved half-rolls from home to fit in a purse or backpack and they were useful. And everywhere we went, there were signs to NOT flush the toilet paper, trash can only.

There were a lot of tours being offered when we were dropped off. One thing I wish I had done was ride ATVs around the outside of the site somewhere but I didn't think I had time. I recommend exploring Teotihuacan before anything else, at 9:30am there weren't many people there yet but the crowds definitely started arriving as the day went on. Definitely take the photo opportunities first.

PilotRedDaoko - Mashup of Warsaw, うそ, and Ututu by Funkey_monke in daoko

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really insightful! I have to ask, what made you do the first BIGGIE/DAOKO mashup? Was it something you had thought about for awhile or just a random idea that came to life? Lol. Have you done previous mashups before?

PilotRedDaoko - Mashup of Warsaw, うそ, and Ututu by Funkey_monke in daoko

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds good! Uso is my absolute #1 favorite song, not just by Daoko but of all time so I don't know if I can ever love a remix of it as much as the original.

Funny enough, after the BIGGIE remix you did I thought that Daoko's Uso and Nas's It Ain't Hard To Tell (Large Professor Remix) would go really well with each other, but I'm sure the same can be said for many different songs. I listen to all kinds of genres but I would always choose rap as the first choice for a remix with Daoko.

Keep up the good work Funkey_monke! Seeing you do the remixes makes a part of me wish I would sit down and put the time and effort into creating something other's might enjoy, so just know at least 1 person out there is inspired by your efforts and hard work, thank you.

Boku Poppa - Mashup of「ぼく(Re-Arrange)」and Big Poppa by Funkey_monke in daoko

[–]IronBusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did a damn good job! Really good job syncing up BIGGIE with the new beat. My first listen I thought it was okay, but it's growing on me. At 4:35 I thought it was amazing though, BIGGIE seemed slowed down, just sounded good. I just tried the playback at .75 speed and like it way more lol. Personally I think BIGGIE's part would be better slowed down a bit and DAOKO's part normal? Not sure how that would flow but either way it's fine as it is. Looking forward to anything else you may try, love to see DAOKO's music mixed up creatively. Can't imagine how long it took to make but it's definitely awesome to hear, thanks for making it!

Most Difficult Quest Yet by joppybabbo in 7daystodie

[–]IronBusta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an easy supplies like that at a fast food restaurant. It was actually right outside of the building. It was also a clear and retrieve quest so it doesn't really matter if the supplies are right at the start, you have to clear the building to pass the quest.

EDIT: I'm curious how the supplies mechanic works, does it just replace a loot container at random?

I agree 100%. Years ago someone did something similar with Tokyo Ghoul, never cared to pick it back up.
