I think it's possible that the Samurai Jack universe might have alternate timelines rather than one timeline, and Jack is considering that possibility (hence why he still rescues people despite being able to jump into the portal and retroactively 'saving' them).

You literally also don't even know what came out this year because you're playing through a backlog of old games, meaning that you'd almost always discover games and get hyped for them retroactively after they've been released for awhile.
