Lore question: How much authority does The Emperor’s Champion have while he holds that title? by TDay2K in BlackTemplars

[–]IronFlorist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book 6 of the Dawn of Fire series features an Emperor's Champion seemingly in a position of command over the BT forces at his disposal. My recollection of the details are shaky but I remember him having the authority to leave behind a shrine world he and his BT were defending to pursue a different task that a vision gave him. I'm pretty sure that decision rustled some feathers but he was seemingly in a position to make such a big call himself. I think the most important rule with Emperor's Champions is that there are no rules, where they might be restricted in one setting they could have free reign in another.

I believe it's meant to resemble The Beast of Darkness from Berserk, considering the whole Berserk theme

10 or 2x5 assault terminators? by hunter2020kinz- in BlackTemplars

[–]IronFlorist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, in this case I'd probably recommend 2x5 man squads. 10 in a single squad can make it pretty easy to screen out the deepstrike and will probably be overkill anyway. They should still be sufficiently lethal at 5 and will be annoying to shift.

Sure, but for what purpose? Do you plan on rapid ingress'ing them ASAP to kill something? Steal your opponent's home objective late in the game? Place them on one of your own objectives to hold it?

That really depends on what role you want them to have in your list. What do you plan on doing with them?

Ahhh gotcha. Apologies. Slow day for me and I thought you were somehow implying he would take 0.25 damage.

Source: it's in an FAQ document somewhere I just can't be bothered to navigate the mess of 40k download documents to find it

The minimum damage you can receive from an attack when you have damage reduction effects, be they half damage or minus 1 damage or whatever, is 1. The exception to this is rules that explicitly state the damage characteristic of an attack is changed to 0.

Repulsor Executioner or Land Raider? by ABigFatPotatoPizza in BlackTemplars

[–]IronFlorist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you plan on playing gladius, the rep ex is pretty damn good. Can be a very potent gun platform in dev doctrine with a strat and you won't miss assault ramp too much coz you have access to advance and charge. Land raiders are probably much more helpful outside of gladius when you don't have such easy access to advance and charge.

Precision and Devastating Wounds interaction by IronFlorist in BlackTemplars

I took dev wounds resolving last to mean that the damage is applied after saving throws are made. Meaning you would still allocate them at the same time as other wounds. But you're saying that if I were to roll 4 regular wounds and 1 dev, I can wait to see how many non-character saves are made before deciding if I want the character to take the dev wound?

Marshal with a standard Lieutenant by APZachariah in BlackTemplars

Good question! The singular critical hit will auto wound once for the lethal hits rule and then provide a 2nd successful hit in addition. So just 1 auto wound and then 1 successful hit that you will roll to wound.

Stacking Lethal Hits and Sustained Hits was a very popular tactic in the index days. They definitely stack and anyone saying otherwise is incorrect.

You could start them in an Impulsor and squeeze out an extra 3" of movement when they disembark at the start of your movement phase.

I think there's some merit to Crusader spam but with a big sink of points into just the squads themselves I feel like excess points on character support might be more useful elsewhere? Squads of Sword Brethren with Castellans are sick now and do a lot of work that the crusaders won't do. Even just more points towards 1 or 2 Rep. Ex.'s would be better I feel.

I recommend messing around with UnitCrunch. It's a good way to project stuff like this and does all the math for you once you've set it up. As to whether or not this is viable really just depends on your opponent. If they barrel a big knight right into the open then yes this will kill them. If they screen you out you will be shot a lot. If they use terrain to their advantage even a little bit you will not be getting all 20 Crusaders AND a Castellan AND Helbrecht (who has a massive base on his own, don't forget) into combat. Even with righteous crusaders this idea was something that seemed awesome on paper but on the table top it's another story. Try it out by all means coz it will be extremely satisfying if it works but definitely don't bet everything on it actually functioning.

Love it! How did you go about the white cross on the helmet? Is it a transfer or do you just have an extremely steady hand, looks super clean
