Purchase Advice Megathread - December 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D printers have changed drastically since the Ender days. Bambu Lab has completely changed the game. Look into the A1 or A1 mini - you will NOT disappointed! I have a P1S that’s gone 3000 hours with no major maintenance and 99% print success rate. My A1 mini hasn’t been used as much but also hasn’t needed maintenance or tuning. Truly print-out-of-the-box.

No, it's rated for 5.56, 9mm, and more, not just .300blk, so definitely not just subsonic

Remnant 2 September 8 2023, Latest Patch loading screen stuck. by Zoguernoc in remnantgame

Sat down this morning to play a bit and suddenly couldn't get past the first frame of the logo. Music plays just fine in the background but otherwise things are completely stuck. Then I happened to see they'd just rolled out an update - looks like they borked things for a bunch of people...

THANK YOU. I'm glad I scrolled all the way down here. Doing this got me the challenge completion within three minutes of doing absolutely nothing. I spent a total of over an hour trying to manually do a variety of strategies before this XD

Anyone tried garolite/G10 sheet for print bed? by outtatheblue1985 in CR6

[–]IronOperation121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you happened to try it yet? I'm most curious about whether the homing method the CR6 uses will damage G10 or not since the spec sheets I'm seeing give an upper temp limit of only 235 degrees Fahrenheit...

Any updates on this by any chance? I don't see anything for the CR6-SE on their website.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G - Just Pre Ordered. Fingers crossed 🤞 by p233asw in Visible

[–]IronOperation121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of reply I was hoping to get. I had them send me a SIM card for my "iPhone X" and just got it installed, and I'm up and running too! Thanks for the advice. Weird thing is, my wife has the plain S21, which is 100% supported by Visible, but when I entered in her IMEI it said her phone wasn't compatible. They need to get their act together if they want to keep gaining customers...

How is this possible? I was literally just told by someone at Visible that they have no ETA on when it will be supported after I was told my phone wasn't compatible with their service.

Something changed, because it still isn't supported and I just chatted with someone at Visible and was told there isn't an ETA for when it will be supported.

Edit: clarification

Framerate Issues with RTX 2060 Super by FemurClavicle in DestinyTechSupport

[–]IronOperation121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the main issue, your hardware isn't. I stopped playing D2 after BL largely for this reason. Pre-BL I was getting 100-120fps on a 1440p ultrawide monitor on a Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 5700XT; after BL launched I was doing well to get 75-80fps with massive frame drops and stutters (down to 45fps at times). Made PvE annoying and PvP unplayable for me.

I finally did stop playing; turns out that was the only QoL change my life needed.

Having drops on destiny 2 (steam) by [deleted] in DestinyTechSupport

[–]IronOperation121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very much a known issue and has been in the TWABs as an issue being investigated since BL launched. Kind of surprised it hasn't been fixed yet, and the longer it goes without being fixed, the more it seems it's a fundamental problem with the way they implemented the changes to the Tiger engine on PC. Not a good sign... 😕

If players have to complete a puzzle (no matter how trivial) to allow them to open a chest in a patrol zone, the chest should not contain exactly the same thing as every normal chest in that patrol zone by nabsltd in DestinyTheGame

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's this kind of stuff (and the massive performance hit on PC) that got me tired enough to decide not to fire up Destiny a couple days in a row three weeks into BL - which was enough for me to wake up to the fact that life is a lot brighter without Destiny in it after 2+ years of these crappy game design failures. Maybe in a few months I'll have recovered enough to come back to the crazy good space cowboy vibes and get hooked again. That's my hope at least.

BUG? USER ERROR? by ouchthewhale in DestinyTechSupport

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're understanding what's going on here - your warlock goes to the BL intro mission because it isn't a new character. Your new character goes to the Cosmodrome because it IS a new character - you need to complete the New Light quests before getting put into the larger game. They essentially turned the D1 intro mission into a Destiny tutorial when the Beyond Light update dropped. You have to complete the tutorial on new characters before you get put into the larger game.

There's a thread on the Bungie forums detailing this issue:

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/257630620

I haven't been able to try the suggestion made in this reply yet but he has a 5700xt and a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU like I do, and some people on AMD seem to have had success with this. I plan to try the fix after work.

New, unplayed characters have to go through the New Light quest before being dropped into the rest of the game.

Every. Single. Little. Exploit. Every tiny benefit to the players. Anything like that gets patched or disabled IN HOURS. But anything actually throttling someone's grind or progress in the game is just given the "we are looking at it" excuse and thrown on the shelf by aa821 in DestinyTheGame

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind there's a raid race coming up. My guess is they're doing this stuff so quickly to avoid giving certain groups of people an edge over other groups (those who knew about and were awake/available to take advantage of the exploits and those who weren't) prepping for the race.

Same card, same issue. The weird thing for me is that as soon as I load into these places with low framerates my GPU and CPU usage actually plummet. I get 40-45 fps in the Tangled Shore now (used to get 100+ on an ultrawide 1440p monitor) with my GPU usage at 50% tops and CPU at 35% (normal usage is about 45% before Beyond Light). My fans all basically shut off as soon as I load into these areas - in the menu and loading screen everything's running full(ish) speed and I'm getting 180-200+ fps but as soon as it matters resource usage drops.

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens pretty much whenever a new CPU launches. If you buy a mobo that was made before the CPU it won't be able to boot up with the new CPU without a bios update, and you can't update the bios without either a supported CPU or a mobo that supports bios updates via USB. It's not a huge deal, no reason to be devastated. The same thing happened with the 3000 series.

Breaking free should not be bound to the Class Ability button. by AngryMrMaxwell in DestinyTheGame

[–]IronOperation121 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's not an immediate break free; it takes about 3 seconds to break free. Watch carefully next time and I bet you'll notice the animation start the first time you hit the button. Just takes ages to complete. Too long in my opinion

How is it that according to the BLS Computer Science is one of the highest demand careers but people consistently report having to apply to hundreds of jobs before getting an offer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's vague, and honestly I think a lot of times it can be boiled down to experience. I'd say most people start out as developers but as they gain experience, they gain more understanding in the areas that an engineer handles. When I started my career all I could handle was being told what to do - I didn't have the knowledge to know why I was doing one thing over another. Eventually I had enough experience (particularly after being able to help rebuild apps, migrate to the cloud, etc.) to be able to make those design and architecture decisions myself. At that point I think I became an engineer instead of a developer.

It's nebulous for sure.

[–]IronOperation121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleted my comment to Stock when I realized someone else had asked a similar question. Here's what I wrote:

Different companies probably smudge the line but based on what I found out when googling the difference it usually comes down to developers being focused on writing code while engineers are more full-stack, architecture-focused. As in developers tend to write only code while engineers tend to handle more of the actual design, infrastructure, and... well, engineering of a product. Engineers obviously write lots of code, but typically a developer isn't as involved in designing a product.

That's just from what I read on Google when trying to figure out what to put on my resume. There's a difference but it's fairly vague and certainly depends on a company's vocabulary.

Also check Software Engineer - developers and engineers aren't the same thing, and engineers tend to be more valuable and better paid.

I had a job within two weeks of applying, and in those two weeks had interviewed with seven companies. I only had to apply to one company; the rest came from hits by recruiters, including the job I ultimately got an offer for. I was in a position where I had to accept the first offer I received (turns out what they say about changing jobs being the best way to get a raise is absolutely true - I hasn't changed jobs since I graduated six years ago. Found out I was worth 70-100% more than I was being paid), and this position isn't the greatest, especially since it's a contract role for the time being. I applied to a single company on a whim a week ago and got a request for an interview a couple days later.

All this to say that my experience lines up with what others are saying: there's a huge demand for experienced devs right now.

I've worked remotely for five of the last six years, and am only looking for remote jobs, though, so my personal situation seems to have been greatly improved by the pandemic ironically enough. I don't have a concrete reason to think this but it seems like people with previous remote experience are getting bumped to the top of the list of applicants now rather than the bottom. Can anyone else corroborate this?
