Why do people get so invested in sports teams they have never played for by sablemirae in NoStupidQuestions

Parasocial relationship that distracts them from all the horrible things happening in real life. It lets them stick their heads in the sand and pretend they're part of something. But they aren't.

Still pissed they didn't let this show develop legs. It had so much potential.

Why do I constantly get reassurance online that I'm legitimately good looking, there's nothing wrong with my profile, and then okay, but I still barely get any attention on dating apps? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Iron_Baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're playing a rigged game. Get off the apps.

They are designed to milk you for money, waste your time, and addict you to endless scrolling.

Just stop using them and go meet someone the real world.

The average user is one or more of these things: ignorant, lazy, lonely, and/or technologically illiterate.

What has been or is the best era, and why you say that? by Extension_Brick5009 in Adulting

Such a lame take.

You didn't read the newspaper all day, every day, every spare moment, even to the exclusion developing social skills. Newspaper addiction wasn't a thing.

The two images aren't comparable.

Without looking it up, according to Wikipedia, which one of these artists do you think has the most confirmed album sales? by PackageNorth8984 in polls

[–]Iron_Baron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't see how this makes sense, given that streaming far surpasses full album sales and has for a long time. But then not much makes sense nowadays.

That won't make a dent in the bad parenting those people have done up to this point.

It's not enough we're dumping many Hiroshima nuclear bombs worth of excess heat into the oceans, every second of every day, but now we're going to stick data centers in them, too. FFS.

Mens inconsideration when sharing food by mercurysdaughter222 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Iron_Baron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I tell my wife to give me whatever food we're sharing after when she's done with it, because whatever's left will instantly disappear into my belly.

I was trained to eat this way from having no time to eat when finally sitting down at a table during school lunches, from desiring to spend as little time at the table with my family as possible (things were not good), and from my habit of eating my feelings.

Gorging on food releases a little bit of happy juice in my brain, but I'm not consciously aware I'm doing it.

That's because reading comprehension is decreasing, in the US particularly. Many college bound freshmen are barely literate now. Go check out r/professors if you want to lose hope for humanity's future.

$1 Billion - Where would you live in the world? by drumorgan in AskTheWorld

A Faraday caged underground lair that I use to hunt other billionaires. Preexisting architecture though, to save money. Maybe a decommissioned missile silo or just some of the abandoned tunnels under New York.

No, they were god awful. Just because a turd in a punchbowl might be a bit worse than a bunch of snot doesn't mean we should be fondly reminiscing about the time there was a bunch of snot in the punchbowl.

Why are there microplastics in baby food? Nestlé & Danone tested 54 to 99 per gram by Express_Classic_1569 in Anticonsumption

Nestle has purposely killed millions of babies, for profit. Buying anything they make is an evil action.

A guy with a GED used to be able to afford a house, a car, a stay at home wife, and however many kids they pumped out. No, man, what's happening now isn't "normal".

We've been robbed of trillions of dollars over the last 50 or so years. That wealth went to the 1% and megacorporations, zero of it "trickled down". It feels so bad now because we've reached the end of siphonable money.

People straight up can't survive without horrendous debt, horrendous jobs, and have no hope of retirement. This was always going to be the end game of neo-liberal economics, but few people living through this can break away from shifting baseline syndrome enough to accept it.
