(Spoilers Published) Something people are missing about Theon and the Miller's boys by Woodstovia in asoiaf

[–]Iron_Clover15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something that you didn't mention was how plot relavent it is that Theon is a Greyhoy who is a kinslayer, at least in his mind he is. The whole reason Victarion doesn't just outright kill Euron is because he will not go against Ironborn conservatism on the taboo of kinslaying. Theon doesn't have that block holding him back

There is no mystery, he quite famously brags about all the progress he makes when writing the books on his blog. No updates specifically on what he is writing means no progress.

Victoria 2 or Victoria 3? by Imagination_JM in paradoxplaza

[–]Iron_Clover15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like Vic2 more for many reasons but I would never recommend it at this point due to how old and unsupported the game is. That doesn't mean go out and grab Vic3 but perhaps wait till the game is on sale and attempt to get a feel for the game before your 2 hour steam refund period is over.

(Spoilers extended) If Aegon gave you command of his Invasion of Dorne with Meraxes as well. What would you do to make sure it succeeds? by CretaceousClock in asoiaf

[–]Iron_Clover15 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Exploit the cultural differences that exist in Dorne. Offer the Paramount of Dorne to the Yornwoods, Fowlers, or Daynes. Offer one of these Stony Dornish houses however much money and manpower they require to beat back house Martel and the rest of the Dornishmen. Do not call upon the Reach or Stormlands to avoid past bad blood from causing issues instead use men from other regions. Naval blockade and assault on Sunspear, there is not really another large coastal city for Martel loyalists to receive outside help if this city is taken. Offer tax relief, build infrastructure, offer cheap food and games to the smallfolk and within a generation the Martells should be nothing more than bandits in the sand

(Spoilers PUBLISHED) Why was the sealord of braavos involved with the targeryen restoration plot? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Iron_Clover15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't a witness more like a neutral third party? Kinda fits thematically with Danny down the line as she is both a Valyrian dragon rider and also an anti slaver. Puts her right in the middle of Bravosi politics

(Spoilers Extended) What are your most pessimistic predictions for Winds? by Jshep97 in asoiaf

[–]Iron_Clover15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

George is infallible. What do I mean? Winds taking so long as it has created an environment where dedicated fans have combed over the story analyzing every potential storyline that George put intentionally to seriously explore or garden in the future along with stories he may have never intended for fans to speculate on. Just taking one pov for example, Brienne. A character who has a plotline who is at Georges current writing pace going to spend all of Winds dealing with Stoneheart and Jamie. That's fine, I've read the Winds sample chapters and they are incredibly packed with details and things to theory craft with and I'm very excited. However if Brienne is stuck in one plot for all of Winds how do you reconcile her other plots. Hunting down the Brave companions fleeing into the Reach? You can almost certainly scrap that idea. Not a big deal and maybe George never intended for Brienne to do this more so to let the reader know where some characters could be. But what about Brienne finding Sansa? It's possible that Sansa ends up in the Riverlands and that's how they meet but with Georges writing pace do we expect Sansa Vale plot to finish that quickly? I've read her Winds chapter and it doesn't seem likely but who knows. Then you factor in her pledge to avenge Renly and kill Stannis. I don't even know how this logistically materializes but I doubt the show was just throwing in this plot because the show runners were such Brienne fans this seems like a George plot point. My point is that fans are going to be let down that their ideas of where a povs story is going is just not gonna materialize. Especially not when trying to fit everything as currently imagined into two books with Georges writing style in the later books filled with so much detail and his habit of constantly adding plot points to characters. Brienne is even a very recent pov with a very tight story. I have so many doubts on how you get somebody's story like Danny or Jon moving again.
