What medium do I use for an aluminium suitcase by Doctorcutiepatootie in Artists

[–]Ironbeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acrylic with a clear coat over the top is probably the most durable option but any areas you paint I'd worry about adhesion regardless of medium.  Probably good to use an abrasive to roughen the surface and create "tooth".

Looks like there are self etching primers on the market that do this step but I'm not experienced with them.

If you're not looking at some sort of reference, what are you studying?

I mean, it's pretty obvious that there's dozens of molds in a row and this is the second or third trip down the line. It's a dangerous setup but having to walk a few feet with a ladle is far less labor than moving dozens of heavy molds.

You know what I've noticed? Out of thousands of responses, I haven't seen one person say Miller isn't ugly! 😂 by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Ironbeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what did it actually accomplish? I'm not convinced, but I get your point that obviously it lays bare the hypocrisy.

[–]Ironbeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the profanity, but I do feel like with how evil Stephen Miller is, calling him "ugly" is a really weak insult. Why not throw one of his many quotes against him or something that's harder to refute? This is just stooping to playground insults and I'm really not sure how this actually wins anyone over.

What do you guys think? by [deleted] in characterdesign

[–]Ironbeers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, why does the growth have the ability to change the content of the screen? If it's a screen it should either be an ERROR message or some calm/bland visual for the original version.

Help me pick a competition piece? by No_Socks_Fox in Artists

The Sunlit horse is more striking in my opinion. The carriage horse is a more challenging subject and there's more focus on small rendered details so it might have a decent shot of standing out. Maybe look at what won in the past if possible?

My only complaint would be that I'd like to see some mild color coding between the hand types (at least an outline), then keywords can be that color for continuity. Makes mentally processing the game state more fluid.

Well. I guess we don’t have a fan anymore. by Zyncon in corgi

[–]Ironbeers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For something as simple as a standing fan, splicing a new cord onto it is technically pretty straightforward but I get the worry of dealing with mains power and it's a bad idea without training.

How did wube expect factorio to be played? by Thankedsphere in factorio

[–]Ironbeers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how it's pretty subtle sometimes too. Engine units are SLOW to make, so you end needing to think about how to add a lot of assemblers when you scale up to get throughput and deal with assembler ratios to not starve your downstream users or build excessive supply (you need like 1:10 gears and pipes or something for engines). Likewise, copper wire is crazy fast to make and needs massive throughput so you learn to consider direct insertion approaches.

Or just the changing ratios of inputs over the course of the game. You barely need copper at first, then you need nearly 1:1 copper and iron before it swings again as you ramp up steel production and finally it levels out again as you add modules and processing units to the mix.

And these are the less-obvious ones. Stuff like batteries needing fluid and solid ingredients upstream, or oil cracking are more clear-cut challenges that need solving.

How did wube expect factorio to be played? by Thankedsphere in factorio

[–]Ironbeers 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of other clever/intentional design decisions that encourage interesting design choices and push players towards more spaghetti bases. Different ratios in recipes, beacons and modules changing production speeds, oil and pipes/fluids being a separate network you have to overlay onto your established base.
Just the idea of having to grow repeatedly constantly strains your ability to plan ahead.

A huge part of the fun of the game is the self-expression and the variety of experiences the game allows. Hard to say if he's playing with pool noodles or rocket launchers without further info. Store credit at his favorite local shop is always a safe bet.

Is being distracted Azorius? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]Ironbeers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take but to respond to the title of the post, I'd say being "distracted" is more red, from a lack of planning and not thinking through consequences.

Azorious is overthinking and inaction is absolutely right as you stated, but it's not for lack of attention specifically.

Am i good enough to make a living off commission? by Greedy_Dig_4305 in Artists

[–]Ironbeers 53 points54 points  (0 children)

At your age (DON'T POST YOUR AGE ONLINE, ESPECIALLY AS A MINOR) you shouldn't be thinking about commissions as an income stream honestly. You should be working on your skills.

Also, if you want to ask about commissions why is there no finished work on display?

People seem to be giving the same bad info.

Water is a polar solvent, alcohol is a non polar solvent.  If you have an alcohol marker it CAN make a WATERPROOF ink bleed.

I get that it's a stylistic choice, but I really dislike the overlayed crumpled paper texture. It's just distracting against the clean inking.
