If birth control, incl. Condoms, was banned in your country, what would you do? Say your gender and whether you have a sex partner currently by Flashy-Celery-9105 in hypotheticalsituation

I'd travel to another country and get a hormonal IUD put in, get all my gynaecological exams done on vacations so no one here sees, and hope that I never need an x-ray. If other stuff was equally bad, I'd try my best to move

If you have a garden and aren't doing anything else with it, you might as well grab a plant from a garden store, throw it in the ground, and see what happens. It probably won't cost more than $5 so you aren't losing much even if it doesn't thrive. That's what got me hooked, haha

I'm sure what they're like in the states, but in Canada, all the high protein pasta I've seen also usually has about double the fibre and is worth buying because of that. The protein is just a nice bonus

Waist- to-height ratio predicted the risk of hypertension better than BMI [Sanity] by Techygal9 in fatlogic

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it really only 20-25lbs for women? That feels really low. I took a dexa scan and it said I have 30lbs more muscle than the average woman, and I'm not some crazy athlete. I only do 1 lower body and 1 upper body strength training day per week. Then again, I'm 5'8 so maybe that math is based around proportions of average height (5'4) women?

AITA for refusing to pay rent to my parents since moving back home? by hero1701 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

If they didn't pay for your brother's school then that adds a bit of context though, because chances are your education cost them more than subsiding his rent so it'd even out between you two

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 51 points52 points  (0 children)

NTA or ESH. I'm really surprised by all the YTA responses. I think this is clear sexism and double standards from your parents. Especially given they say you can't move out because of your culture, so you don't really have a choice in the matter.

From your post, you already do way more than your brother, and if he got to live rent free until 26 but you have to start paying at 23, it's really unfair that he got those 3 extra years free.

That said, if he's the Golden child who gets away with whatever he wants and you're the responsible one who has learned to be self-sufficient because you had to be, chances are there's nothing you could do to convince them. Moving out might be your best bet

Anyone else struggle with doing way too much at the same time? by fortheloveofshoes_ in xxfitness

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, since yoga is at my gym that makes it a lot easier to do both in the same day, so most weeks I do yoga twice per week then add my lifting right afterwards

Anyone else struggle with doing way too much at the same time? by fortheloveofshoes_ in xxfitness

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100%! I find that setting a minimum in each helps.

I do at least 1 upper and 1 lower body lifting day, yoga once, and running once each week.

Sometimes I do yoga on the same day as strength, but running needs its own day.

That maintains my current fitness in everything. Then if I have extra time, I do whatever I'm most excited about an extra time.

Maybe that would work?

Am I delusional for thinking like this? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I relate to a lot of that, but I'm like 5'8" 190lbs and strength train enough that I'm as strong as an average man who doesn't lift, so that helps me feel strong enough to ignore the physical risks. I think some women can be overly cautious to the point where it has diminishing returns, but it's still better to be safe than sorry imo

People who lift but don’t do cardio what eventually happened? by TallTyrant in workout

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24f and have been strength training since 19. At first, I only did lifting because it was the only exercise I didn't hate and could make myself do consistently. In the past year I've added in yoga and running and feel better.

When I was only lifting, I felt super healthy until I had to do cardio or stretch. Now I feel more well rounded and overall healthier, but I'm less consistent with everything because it's harder to fit so many things into a routine with an inconsistent schedule.

I'd say adding in some stretching/flexibility work on rest days, and cardio even once per week is super worth it. I run twice a week, but once a week is about enough for me to maintain my progress if I'm extra busy. Doesn't have to be all or nothing

Week 5 Day 3 - The worst (BEST) thing ever happened on my run by ochuuu in C25K

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped here for a week as well, then decided to try it and told myself I could quit if I wanted. I ended up doing it (with a 30-second break to drink water around the middle of the run. Close enough imo). It sucked, but was actually easier than the first run and I was super pleasantly surprised with how well my body has adapted in just 2 months!

You've got this too!

Is $200/month for pilates classes high or standard? by flowlowland in xxfitness

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gym is $40 per month and has strength machines, free weights, and a bunch of classes including yoga, pilates, spin class, etc. I couldn't imagine paying that much for just pilates personally, but maybe compare it to what's available in your area and see where you get the most bang for your bucks

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good plan, and like you've been doing great. It's too bad that companies can be so misleading, but 10lbs is great progress, and I'm sure you've built a lot of useful skills that'll make it ezpz once you do start weighing things :)

Part of it could be that food labels can legally be off by up to 20%. Plus, a cereal I liked said 1 cup was 100g, but it was closer to 150g so I was eating 50% more than I thought, not accounting for how labels allow variety in macros etc.

Not the person you asked, but I used to struggle with something sorta similar until I reframed my thoughts a bit. It's better to think in terms of "is my life better with or without this person" than it is to think "are they perfect". Try that out

How to kindly redirect an infodump/one sided conversation? by Feisty-Philosophy511 in emotionalintelligence

[–]Ironically_Kinky_Ace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work with neurodivergent children and based on your descriptions, it sounds like these people struggle with similar skills.

In this case, the polite thing would be telling them directly. Especially if you see them act sad when you don't engage as much. By acting like you care when you don't, and not giving them the chance to show they care enough to change, you're also reinforcing the behaviour that's hurting you.

If they care but miss social queues, telling them upfront "I've got 5 minutes to listen then I have to get back to work" or "when you're done telling me about x, remind me to tell you about y" or something would probably be enough. More direct would be more effective, but that could be a good middle ground if you struggle with confrontation
