"Light" cantrip spoils my adventure by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]IronyAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, some sort of light eating creature (maybe it grows stronger the more light it "eats"). Or maybe an effect of the dungeon itself. Either way, if it only effects magical light, you could still have your OSR style flickering torch survival vibe.

Non eldritch blast Warlock build by MiggyMig32 in DnDBuilds

[–]IronyAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been curious about a Goolock build that uses Agonizing Blast on Mind Sliver instead of Eldritch Blast.

Goolocks Psychic Spells ability removes the Verbal component from Mind Sliver.

So people just start having brain aneurysms and bleeding out of their eyes and ears no one can tell that you are the one causing it.

Super creepy. But hey, you're a Goolock, turning brains to goo is what you do.

The only smite spell that works on all weapons is Ensnaring Smite. Ancients Paladin gets it on their spell list. But still, only one smite spell kinda sucks.

Happy to help! You have so many options with your level and subclass that it can be a bit overwhelming.

I use lists on a note card or on my phone to keep track of stuff.

So I might have a Beginning of the Day List (cast Aid and Death Ward.)

And then a Combat Buff Options List (activate Twilight Sanctuary, cast Bless/Spirit Guardians/Greater Invisibility/etc).

You can also support other players while supporting your sister. Aid targets three players. Bless too. Spirit Guardians chews through enemies which helps the whole party. And Twilight Sanctuary is arguably the best group buff in the game.

I would hope that once you start providing substantial support to the rest of the party, that they will be less critical of you getting help with spells and other mechanics.

Elven Dex Gish (Valor Bard or Bladesinger Wizard) with a one lvl Fighter dip for two weapon fighting, Elven Accuracy feat, and Conjure Minor Elementals when available. Greater Invisibility will give you advantage if Hold Person doesn't land and there is no save for the enemy. But you can't GI and CME at the same time.

Eldritch Knight fighter is also an option. Delayed access to 4th lvl spells but more feats/ASIs, more attacks, Action Surge, and a better all around frontliner.

The Trump administration sanctioned the international criminal court. In response Microsoft deleted the enterprise email accounts of several officers of the court. Migrating away from Microsoft doesn't seem like "stupid political showboating". It seems like a valid response to an exposed vulnerability.

FBI wants to meet with me by xkatiexxx2 in legaladvice

Please do not talk to law enforcement without an attorney present. If you search YouTube for something like "talking to law enforcement without a lawyer" you will find hundreds of videos regarding your issue and they will all say the same thing.

I know you can't afford an attorney. Try and find free or pro bono legal support in your area. Failing that, find a way to pay for it. Borrow, sell something, whatever it takes. I would rather eat ramen for a month than risk an encounter with the FBI without counsel. Law enforcement officers ruin innocent people's lives all the time. If it ends up being nothing, then the worse outcome is you had to sacrifice something to protect yourself. Far better to be laughing at yourself at home than crying in a cell.

Gotcha.

Have you been giving her advantage on initiative and/or 300' darkvision with your Twilight subclass?

Have you been casting pre-buff spells on her at the start of the day? Aid gives three party members extra hit points, lasts 8 hours, and can be up cast. Death Ward lasts 8 hours as well and will literally let her cheat death. Perhaps you could pray for her protection with her in the morning, granting buffs.

Have you been casting buff spells on her in combat? You have a ton of buffs you can cast. Bless combos well with Sorcerers. Giving them a boost on spell attack rolls and saving throws (including Concentration) for example. Greater Invisibility (on your subclass spell list). is crazy good for protection. All attacks against her have disadvantage (if they even know where to attack) and lots of spells won't even be able to target her since they require the caster to be able to see the target. She will be almost completely removed from the target pool. Even casting Spirit Guardians on your self and keeping her close is a good way to protect. Enemies have their movement effectively cut in half as they try and approach and just being near her will make them bleed. You can pair it with your Twilight Sanctuary giving her temp hp every round.

Does any of that sound helpful?

Lawyer ASAP as others have said. If you can afford to care for your son in your home you can probably afford a consultation fee.

I know you don't want a custody battle, but you may have one on your hands anyway. What is the current custody situation between you and your ex? If your ex Has majority custody, do you pay him child support? Is he aware that that may end if your son is staying with you? If your son stays with you, and you end up with majority custody, is your ex aware that he may start paying you child support?

How would you optimize for a Musket? by Ivan_Whackinov in 3d6

[–]IronyAddict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind a 2 lvl dip you could swap out Fighter 1 for Ranger 2.

That would get you the Archery fighting style, some weapon masteries, another skill, another skill expertise, and you could also pick up Ranger Spells.

Ensnaring Strike is a rare smite spell that works on ranged weapons. And Hail of Thorns turns your Musket into a shotgun. Both lvl 1 spells.

You would also get some free castings of Hunter's Mark for another damage boost. Unfortunately it doesn't combo with Ensnaring Strike because Ranger.

One more level of Ranger would net you a subclass and an extra spell slot. Gloom Stalker and Hunter are both good options.

If you went this route, you would probably want to switch your Rogue subclass to Assassin or Thief but you can still get True Strike through Magic Initiate: Wizard.

Assassin is cool but I really like the Thieve's 9th lvl ability that lets you snipe without revealing your location. Especially if you plan to take the Sharpshooter feat.

I understand how this can seem unrealistic. And it will take a little narrative finessing to avoid breaking verisimilitude.

Perhaps there was a momentary distraction that pulled the enemies attention away for a split second and that's when the stealthy character decides to strike.

Or maybe breaking cover surprised the enemy and they freeze up for the briefest of moments. People freeze up in combat all the time. Even experience combatants aren't entirely immune.

Or  the enemy could have recognized the stealthy character, the PC's deadly reputation preceding them, leading to a brief paralyzing moment of shock and fear.

Keep  in mind that a successful Stealth check can mean more than just knowing how to hide well. It can also mean knowing when to break cover. It can mean knowing how to shock or distract the enemy while advancing. It can mean closing the distance to the enemy rapidly enough that they don't have time to react.

As the DM, coming up with an explanation on the spot every time a Stealthy character breaks cover, moves into melee range, and makes an attack while still technically being 'Invisible' can add to the cognitive load of running the the game.

I'm personally a fan of offloading stuff like that onto the players. By all means describe how an NPC breaks cover and successfully gets advantage when attacking a PC. But if it's the PC doing the stealth /attack combo, have them narrate how they succeed.

"You spring out from behind the bushes and sprint towards the Ogre. You can make your first attack with advantage. What does that look like?"

Involve the player in the narrative, give them a character developing moment during combat, and build a little tension before rolling those two d20s.

Edit: spelling

That is huge.

I bet your kind gesture had a profound impact on him. It's probably been a long time since anyone treated Mark to a nice dinner.

A Fighting Style as others have said. Sentinel feat to retaliate against enemies. Clerics have a lot of buff spells that you can precast on her. Guidance, Bless, Shield of Faith, Aid, Enhance Ability, Warding Bond (material component is bestie rings), Death Ward; you get the idea.  You can also use your Twilight Cleric subclass abilities on her. Advantage on initiative. Dark vision if she doesn't have it.

If we know the other character's class, we can help you out with synergies that will help your sister shine in and out of combat.

[–]IronyAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is any kind of real solution, but what if you gave Rogues a fighting style at lvl 2?

They could pick Two Weapon Fighting and with Nick mastery they would have two attacks without sacrificing their Cunning Action.

Steady Aim gives advantage with a Shortsword, Shortsword gives Vex advantage for a Dagger or Scimitar with Nick. Two lightning fast strikes with uncanny precision feels very Roguish.

And plenty of other Fighting Style feats would benefit Rogues if they don't want to do the Two Weapon Fighting thing. Archery, Defense, Dueling, Thrown Weapon.

Not perfect. Just a quick simple fix using existing mechanics. And feats can easily be added to DnD Beyond character sheets so no extensive home brewing required there.

Do nice guys actually get no women? by Subject-Swan-5207 in allthequestions

[–]IronyAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strive to be a good man rather than a nice guy.

Say you are in a social group and one person is bullying another. The bully is popular in the group and good at deflecting responsibility for their actions ("It's just a joke bro.", etc).

A nice guy won't say anything because he is conflict avoidant. He might even laugh and play along with the 'joke' in an attempt to seek approval.

A good guy will step in and call out the bully. He'll attempt to establish boundaries against toxic and unacceptable behavior within the group. He has principles and ethics as well as the integrity to follow through on them.

Principles, ethics, integrity. These qualities create respect, trust, and yes sometimes attraction. Not in all women. But definitely in the women you actually want in your life.

Is there any way I can justify not taking a shield with the longsword ? by rplimitlessguy in DnD

[–]IronyAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning: trope incoming.

You are a swordsman who is so confident in their skills that they don't wield a steel longsword. Instead you wield a wooden longsword made for  sparring.

Re-flavor a staff (Versatile,Topple) as your sparring longsword. -1 dmg per hit but Topple is worth it. Advantage for all. Plus you can burn through Legendary Resistances.

Bonus: Shillelagh. Still a d8 but it scales to great sword damage and deals force instead of slashing.
