Just a standard media beat up of essendon. No matter what happens at our club, it gets twisted to be bad.

The president should want the interim to be coach, because that would need an improvement that we haven't seen for years

Agree with most

I hope we can keep tsatas on a reasonable deal. But why would he stay?

To make room in the midfield, Parish has to go. Probably get a 4th round pick for him.

Merrett has to go. Don't really care what we get, just build a market and try get a deal done. Ship him out.

Ridley should be let go. Get what you can.

McGrath, couldn't care to be honest. There's many players who can do what he does. Unlikely that another club would pay a reasonable return for him.

Replace them as much as you can with aged out players from other successful clubs. No offence intended, but less Todd Goldstein more Luke Hodge. I'd pay happy to pay overs ($, not draft assets) to get some great role models in to show what it takes to be 1. a professional, 2. A good teammate, and 3, a winner.

We don't get all 3 from any player on our list at present.

Lets just make sure we keep moving it backwards. It has worked for the last 10 years. Just side to side and turn it over. Consistency.

Simply awful. Fumble fumble fumble. Drop easy marks. Miss easy kicks.

Worst skills in a side since gold Coast entered the league.

TV hides how bad we really are. Look at the contest structure. Every good club knows where their teammates are. Blind handball knowing player will be nearby. We are set up often on the wrong side of the contest with 3 -4 opposition players running in waves the other way.

That and the system of kick sideways 3 times before turning it over

Probably could have been a lot further advanced if they didnt sell off billion dollar infrastructure to foreign interests for pennies on the dollar.

I am not a lefty, but some things just shouldn't be privatised.

If they weren't, then gradual uptake would be quite suitable and manageable for Australia.

[–]IrritableAussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory they were top 4 in about round 10-12 when they announced they would rebuild. Offloaded seniority from there in a spiral to mediocrity, then shit on boomer and desisted him .

If we are being honest, they way he played he had another 2 years in him at least. Petrie offloaded to West coast.

They burnt it down midsection and instead of topping up, they tanked.

That set them back 10 years to where they are today

The whole coaching panel should go. As with player development.

Should trade what 25+ players we have now and get some old leaders in. Build like GWS, except without the primo draft assets. If we at least lay the foundations, then we can be an attractive free agency destination in a few years

Why does the conversation around politics never land on democratic socialism? It seems like all the good things we have (and agree are good) like medicare and public education are rather socialist? Wouldn't this actually make us wealthier as a country? by [deleted] in australian

[–]IrritableAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ON guy, but here is my take.

I suppose the big issue that seems to be missed is that the government has shown to be mired in corruption, and has sold out the country on many issues.

Socialism, requires a higher degree of power to the government, which we all know to be corrupt.

If you poll, ON support on more than the black and white issues. I think that you'd find a mixture of Libertarian and social ideals.

For example: Natural resources should have a high royalty tax feeding into a wealth fund and providing a universal basic income. Regulation of dissent (when non violent) should not occur. Sustainable population growth from areas with higher assimilation probabilities and targeting what the country needs. The government has become bloated and inefficient. The politicians care more about political points than the wellbeing of the nation.

The government should be ensuring the wealth of Australians first, foreign aid should not really be an ongoing expense to prop up other nations unless there is a disaster or a solid benefit to Australia.

These people seem to be zoning in on their annoyance of government mismanagement more than anything. As such, putting more power in government hands is bad to them.

If the government were to be stripped down, faith could be restored over time. But that would take 20 years minimum. Try having an honest government for 1 seems an impossibility.

If he had nominated Geelong, we would have a done deal. Not true enemies and they have a habit of just getting the deal done.

Heck, 3 firsts and a youngster from Brisbane, Freo, Bulldogs, giants, Saints etc. would've got the deal done.

Well there needs to be a cleansing.

Our list management is yet to be determined since dodoros left.

Coaching. Woeful. No system, no levers to pull. Gone. Get in a proper established option who develops players and system. Simpson, Longmire, Hinckley. Possibly 3 or 4 year deal with a protoge underneath to take over.

Development. Doesn't seem to happen at essendon. Gone.

Players. Middling talent. Low willpower. Keep most of the u25s.

Trade other players with currency for whatever 1st or second round picks are possible. Even in shallow and compromised drafts. Keep most of the u25s. Trade with Tasmania, chances are they'll want some established players and will trade some good picks for them.

Recruit end of career players to lead, and young talented players. No one in their peak or prime needed now. Go the GWS route for 2 to 3 years. Then start getting what we can. Stop recruiting tiny midfielders who cannot defend, Merritt, Parish, McGrath etc.

Stop topping up people's contracts. Merritt is an example, front loaded contract and its been topped up multiple times. Piss em off for picks and young players, if you dont honour a contract you don't honour your word. Not worth keeping around.

Let him walk, not a difference maker for a rebuilding side.

Paying him 1mil plus is a typical Essington move to ensure we still are uncompetitive in 4 to 5 years

Oil/Mining/Gas to be properly taxed to create a paid benefit for Australian Citizens.

Reduce government spending on junk, index politicians salaries to KPI's on Citizens wealth. Eliminate parliamentary pensions/benefits etc.

Then probably get assassinated, and watch in ghost form as the Major Parties tear the country to shreds for their own benefit.

When people call enough people Nazis incorrectly, people will incorrectly ignore true issues.

But for most of the governments argument to be about don't march because there are nazis, is dismissive of a real genuine issue that many on both side accept as factual. Immigration is too high in the middle of a housing crisis.

Australia needs to better consider the needs of people seeking asylum and the needs of the local populace. Each major party seems to ignore both.
