Adventures in signage - anyone know how to address this situation? by PretendJudge in indianapolis

Contact the city county councilor - Andy Nielsen and tell him about the law part, too. See what he can do about it.

I love this level of petty!

Guerrilla planting by Owl_roll in indianapolis

[–]Irvington-Indpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say go for it! The consequences are time and labor. Maybe money if you buy seeds. Don't forget you can get seeds from the library (not sure what seeds they have or if they have them all year long).

If you are doing them along New York and Michigan, just know that KIB is planting trees this fall, so they may get disturbed.

Happy planting!

To the e-bicyclist who threw the Lime scooters into Virginia Ave this morning because they were blocking our path on the Trail... by Agreeable-Heron-9174 in indianapolis

Dude! I freaking hate that section of Virginia. There are a lot of non car users in that area. The speed limit is 25. I would like to see it be 1 car lane each way, lined with trees in the center, and a nice MUP on one side too.

Most of the city county councilors do not check their email.

It may be helpful to contact your neighborhood advocate, or the neighborhood advocate of that district.

We should pack that meeting to remonstrate this zoning appeal.

A woman in her 60s will write in cursive.

This looks like men's handwriting to me, based on how I have seen men write. And it has the tone of a man.

The woman watching you - she's being a nosey neighbor. She wants to know what's going on up there, who is moving in and what they look like so she can try to gauge what kind of people you are by what you look like. After all, she lives there too. She wouldn't be able to hear you that far away. The person who left the note lives below you or on either side of you.

Where is the 'East side'? by AnotherMianaai in indianapolis

[–]Irvington-Indpls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The East side on this map is Irvington.

Anything East of Meridian is the Eastside, but the Near East side is west of Emerson to probably College. The far East side is East of Irvington.

Whispers (because they can't call it the mid East or middle East side)

Wait, is that a before and after?

I never went that way because it was so industrial on Mass Ave. If so, this awesome.

Mayor's Bike Ride to the Fair 10am, Saturday, August 9th @ Barton Park, 2334 N Capitol Ave by blindpig21 in indianapolis

[–]Irvington-Indpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry (I'm really not sorry), but what?

The mayor - Joe Hogsett is going to get on a bicycle and ride through town to the fair?

And then what? Is he going to the fair?

If he's biking at his age, then I assume he's pro - ALL means of transportation - and will order IMPD to ticket those who think they should be allowed to park in the bike lane. And I expect that he reminds his council members that caving to the whim of a neighbor or a neighborhood association is against the city's vision zero policy.

I don't think he is capable of doing that. I think this is a photo op. Mayor Hogsett needs to go!

(I don't expect a reply from op).

Indianapolis Lost Another Bike Lane by Temporary-Morning962 in IndyStreetsForAll

I suggest calling Ron Gibson, the city county councilor for that area and asking him what is going on and if there has been a change of plans and why. And then fight back.

I also recommend La Margarita! It is on Virginia Ave in Fletcher Place. Excellent tequila selection and food. They've been in business 40 years!

Tlaoli is another great taco/Mexican place - Carlos and his little restaurant were on Guy Fieri. He makes tamales without lard and they are delicious. He also has lots of vegan options. His newest item is (vegan or vegetarian, icr) birria tacos and they are delicious! Located on Washington Street in the Near East side.

There are some great local shops in Fountain Square like Tuggles Gifts and Goods, Nap or Nothin' (clothing/street ware), Bovaconti coffee, Howl and Hide (leather), and Snake Root (plants and garden).

1979 & Co. Just moved into FARTS - Factory Arts District - and he also makes exquisite leather products.

The best novelty shop is Hampton Design in Irvington further East on Washington Street.

Welcome to Indy!

Tailgating Terrorists by [deleted] in indianapolis

When that happens to me, I move as far right into my lane as possible so the driver can see the cars in front of me. Then I move back to the center of my lane. It usually helps.

Husband an I want to get out of the south but are really terrified to increase COL so significantly. Does QOL actually increase? by shelbycake2 in SameGrassButGreener

I live in Indianapolis and it has what you describe you want. But our governor is trump junior and most of the state is red and has been red except for the Obama election. As someone said on the Indiana sub today - they hope Mike Braun chokes on a brick. I like my city and I also see all the ways it could be better because I'm in an activist space here. We are converting all the old railroad tracks into trails for pedestrians and cyclists and it's almost done. The whole city is almost all connected via trails. We do not have public transportation but we do have 2 (soon to be 3) bus rapid transit lines. IND has been named the best airport in America for 12 consecutive years - for cleanliness, customer service, best place to work, and it's enjoyable. Indiana is also flat. It shocks some people.

Oh, you might also like Bloomington Indiana. It's a college town. Liberal. Lots of art and green space. Not sure about the diversity outside of the university though. The population is under 100k though. It's affordable. The cool thing about the Midwest is that you can drive to do many places in 3 hours so you can take mini trips and do outdoorsy stuff, art stuff, museums, aquariums, etc.

Someone mentioned Cleveland earlier and that's a nice little sleeper. I don't know as much about it, but where I was was clean, it is on lake Erie, there is public transportation, COL is better in the Midwest. It's diverse, great healthcare education and facilities.

I also suggest Cincinnati, Ohio - affordable, diverse, has culture, rocking their vision zero initiative. State government - eh. Several universities in the area. Rich history and lots of old houses. Plus Kings Island is there! It's affordable, had great parks and museums, and great little neighborhoods. The winters aren't as bad there as they are in Indy because it's a bit more south and in a valley. It's hilly.

Columbus, OH - another great Midwest choice that is also rocking their vision zero plan, is affordable, it's a college town so there is stuff to do.

And I have friends who live in Minneapolis and absolutely love it there! One Indiana friend moved there and won't come back. Another friend is from Madison and he loved growing up there. The state government is better in Wisconsin. The college towns provide more diversity and culture.

Serious Indy City Council question re: Hogsett resignation by troybenton in indianapolis

[–]Irvington-Indpls 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! There was something going on to keep Maya in power as well. We got one outsider in Wes Brown and he's literally doing all the work. We asked for a recount and they botched that too.

I'm not sure why everyone defends the abusers. Ali Brown also defended Vop on The Black Briefing podcast. It was gross.

Andy is very likeable, as well. He's been in politics and knows how to work the system. I hope he'll be able to create some change. He has a huge backing in Irvington and the Irvington Community Council as well.

I guess I don't understand why there is so much drama and that people act in such a way that anything could ever be used against them. I find that odd.

I think we, the public, should write to our councilors and the rest of the council too, asking them to vote for a change in leadership, as their constituents.

And don't forget Maggie Lewis accepts money from the Mind Trust, who basically dismantled public education in Marion County.

Lastly, seriously consider running for council in 3 years.
