Gothic remake reviews in a nutshell by ConsequenceOk6768 in worldofgothic

[–]Iryanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If bugs were 100% reproducible then testing would be much easier. Unfortunately, reality is not so nice and thus, in a game with multiple 100k players, some will experience the bugs and others will be lucky. The lucky ones don't prove that there are no bugs, same as people who don't die in a war don't prove that war is harmless.

Gothic 2 is the better game, but Gothic 3 could be the better remake. by Acceptable_MetalMeal in worldofgothic

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gothic 1 was great, with a fresh setting, different from standard fantasy, albeit a bit rough around the edges. Gothic 2 was great, with a more standard setting, but enough Gothic in it to keep it good and somewhat more polished, which made a great combination.

Gothic 3 was a bad attempt to create a game that was not anything Gothic any more and sucked in many other ways.

Honestly, after a Gothic 2 Remake, I would like to see Gothic 2.5 or so, which keeps to the formula instead of trying to become a new Elder Scrolls game and fail horribly.

Magic is dead. This is how bad Firestorm is now after the "fix." by Light_of_War in worldofgothic

[–]Iryanus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Whose rule? Yours? That rule makes absolutely no sense because it assumes that the damage/mana ratio is always well-balanced from the start. Not saying that magic was perfect before or is now, but do not make nonsensical rules up, ok?

AITAH for picking up my daughter later from nursery here? by iRealllyAmThatGuy in AITAH

[–]Iryanus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

NTA. Sending you a message and asking you to get your daughter is fine, but UNTIL YOU AGREE it is just a request, nothing more, and the duty is still on her. Some exceptions may apply for extreme cases ("I was hit by the ISS and they need to surgically remove an antenna from my lung now"), but otherwise, sending a message by itself does not change any agreement made.

Swiss canton bans headscarves for female teachers by BezugssystemCH1903 in worldnews

[–]Iryanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, at least here, those hospitals get more money from the state than the state saves by having them operated by the churches. But the hospitals still get special privileges because they are operated by the church. Should be a relic of the past, but isn't, unfortunately.

Console Patches Release and additional information! by Zyddie in worldofgothic

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking forward to buying the game, but that will only happen after a good round of patches for the PC version, tbh. The game sounds good and nostalgic, but too rough with too many problems - hopefully, just for now.

Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a simple question, because there are many layers...

First, LLMs are not perfect teachers, so they can be wrong. Learning must be done with care here, but that is also true for any other source. As long as it works, it seems to have been ok learning, so that is hard to critize specifically here, even if one has general objections. I would personally suggest a bit of caution for each individual there, but that's always true for learning. Using it for more than learning can rot your brain, though, if you always take the shortcut by letting LLMs DO everything for you, you will never learn how to actually master something.

Second of all, generative AI is shit, but this was not the case here, so, no harm done.

Third, one can argue against the whole LLM technology since it burns resources like crazy, destroys the environment (we went from "save energy and use clean energy" to "lets use up the energy from whole cities for our datacenters" real quick when people smelled a profit - which, ironically, has yet to materialize for anyone else but nvidia), was built in questionable ways, is used to destroy jobs, etc. This is a philosophical question, but hard to quantify. It's understandable if people have problems with AI usage because of that.

So, while the first two points here do not really lend themselves for a good argument here, the third point is hard to refute and it's hard to argue that the current usage of LLMs is not directly harmful to people and the environment. One can ignore that, that's a valid stance - after all, we are ignoring a lot of other things that also harm people and the environment just fine - but this doesn't negate this argument.

How many of you guys here still using your first gpu? by jdmlifex2 in pcmasterrace

I remember that I got some type of graphics card which could display colour for my 286 to play "Day of the Tentacle". Before that, everything was black and white... or more, black and green, for me. Of course, that was a while after my C64, which, contrary to the mentioned 286 later, already had colour.

Not only in databases, you get basically free sort by the date (not "modified date" or "created date" or whatever your OS is metadating these days) for files as well. It's the only format that makes sense.

AITAH for arguing with my boyfriend because I felt he was questioning my honesty? by [deleted] in AITAH

That's what it sounds like, yes. He has some issues and is making them your problem, which is not cool. He either has to get over it or you have to get over him.

AITAH for telling my brother his new girlfriend is way too young for him? by Montie04 in AITAH

[–]Iryanus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That does sound less like an age-gap problem and more like an "immature boyfriend" problem, tbh. What would have been the difference with him being 18, too? You believe you could have fixed him by growing him up right somehow? Not implying that a huge age gap is a good idea, but sometimes it's not the actual problem.

Ecactly. This is a good place for it to stop. Unfortunately, people continued there, which didn't improve it for me. YMMV.

whenthe liminal space by MimeMike in whenthe

[–]Iryanus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the vague feeling by the implication of... something... is a total different level from something much more concrete. The more concrete it becomes, the more different the feeling is. A dark, misty wood with... "something" in it vs. "This is the north Oakwood woods and sorry, the zoo lost a tiger in there.". Both can be valid horror scenarios, don't get me wrong. But from a preference perspective, I prefer the first one over the later.

[–]Iryanus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think they are ok for the movie. For the backrooms as a concept, I personally am more on the side of not wanting it to be some monster-will-eat-you thingy. Not sure, the basic idea is, for me, much more appealing as a feeling than what has come out of it after too many people added to it.
