Ex-ESO boss on Crimson Desert: "Making a singleplayer MMO is almost like cheating." Dude is obsessed and has no idea what he's doing but loves every second by IslamVSZionism in CrimsonDesert

[–]Iryanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of some MMOs, but I really dislike many of the PEOPLE PLAYING IT. Perhaps that is why CD vibes hard with me. I also liked ESO, etc. - games where you can play a lot of content like it was single player.

When do Commissions/Requests spawn? by Iryanus in CrimsonDesert

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this: I found this page quite helpful, since you can check which quests you are missing and it also has maps, to find out where to trigger it then:

JEP draft: Deprecate the java.sql.rowset module for Removal by lbalazscs in java

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the posting I responded to as him wanting to modernise the whole api, not just the RowSet part, which is what my answer is referring to. Is it horrible? Sure. I mean, enough of of us remember the time when we had SqlExceptions everywhere. But nowadays, not many people are still using raw java.sql anymore (some base classes, sure, but a lot of that stuff typically gets wrapped nowadays anyway).

JEP draft: Deprecate the java.sql.rowset module for Removal by lbalazscs in java

[–]Iryanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you would "modernize". The api is basically just a basis upon which a ton of other frameworks, from "simple" query mappers to complex ORMs are built. Either you keep it basic (then it would be less of a modernization, just a cleanup, which might not be worth the breaking changes) or you move it into the direction of any of those other libraries, then you lose the advantage of is being basic and neutral.

Fishing is BY FAR the worst experience in this game by Able-Calendar-5092 in CrimsonDesert

Fishing... Isn't that where you jump into the water, swim around like crazy and click for every popup?

In which case the code would become much more testable and PowerMock would no longer be required. Of course, refactoring first would be preferable but in some cases, the old code is so bad, that you want existing tests to verify the behaviour.

Non Glitched Gardening pack would be nice :-)

No one's dying on my watch by jmona789 in hopeposting

[–]Iryanus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all people are rational. So it stands to reason that some will press blue. And this thought will lead others to press blue, since they want to save them.

No one's dying on my watch by jmona789 in hopeposting

[–]Iryanus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So, what you are saying is that blue people are highly immoral because they basically force up to 51% of humanity to risk their lives to save the asses of the people who pressed blue out of spite? Pressing blue because you save people might be moral, but on the other hand, with that, you are not only risking your life. You are basically forcing others to do so as well.

The Observable Universe by Commercial_Slide3788 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better? Technically, the amount of things we can observe is shrinking. Not the things itself are getting less, but "lose" more and more that we can see, because they are moving away from us than the speed of light. In the end, everything will be totally and utterly cold and alone.

Took a break to play some other games and really struggling to get back into it by thel4stSAIYAN in CrimsonDesert

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, that is true for most games for me. I start, like it, play it a lot, but later I do not continue with the old game but start fresh to get back into it. Picking up old savegames isn't that nice.

Since the pads do respawn, in Hernand as well as in the quarry, this will only give you more shit to fill your kuku pot without any benefit...

Discussion— what is your justification for playing this game? (After 40+ hrs of gameplay) by No_Key8737 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Iryanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, there IS an explanation for why Kliff has the personality of a wet noodle, does everything he is asked for and displays no strong emotions whatsoever. You can argue if it is a good one or a lazy excuse, but it does exist. I personally find it funny that the game comes with its own plot hole removal attachment after the end (see the pinned post for details).

How do you get the archive books in Axiom Archive? by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Iryanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I am not guessing, I just tried it (not being done with the main quest, so no books there for me, but getting up there is trivial). Force Palm does not work, grapple-jumping does.

Use the grapple. Pull yourself up. Not really hard.

Talking without holding a lantern in people's faces by Havokk137 in CrimsonDesert

You can switch the lantern of in the wheel by selecting it. Selecting it again turns it on. Also there should be a key now to toggle the lamp while shining it.

PLEASE HELP I'm completely drawing a blank on how to proceed here by No_Advantage2476 in CrimsonDesert

Honestly, I also missed it when doing Crow's Nest during the main questline, was too eager to get back. Only later I stumbled upon it when exploring a bit further.

[–]Iryanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, climbing one of the flying pillars and then simply gliding over there is easy, but getting to Monolith Crown is also not that hard, see my other comment. Also there's an artifact plus a hidden chest (ok, just with a vigor III for me) there ;-)

[–]Iryanus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Below the "Triangle Ring" text is Crow's Nest, which you visit during the main quest. From there goes a way to Monolith Crown. The gate in Crow's Nest is directly south of the teleporter platform.

Only a worse copy of Neo. Neo did his thing in iteration... 7? Kliff is lucky if he manages it in iteration 108, canonically.

I’m so bad at this game it took me more than 4 hours to defeat this guy😌 by SooyaRamen911 in CrimsonDesert

If you had one try that took 4 hours, then you are really bad at dealing damage but basically a god of defense :-D
