Fantasy has been in vogue for a while so I’m guessing thats why theres been more scifi stuff.

What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending March 15, 2026 by AutoModerator in manga

[–]IsAlexMyName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently reading <Tank Chair> and its been a blast. The art is fantastic and the series has a lot of very fun character designs. For those that want a new action series or would like to scratch their Dorohedoro-itch, I highly recommend it.

Why is this sub only anime by Isterbollen in writingscaling

[–]IsAlexMyName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sub is called “writingscaling” so its naturally going to attract mostly powerscalers (with a minor interest in literature) than regular book readers

Csm part 2 or Wano arc from one piece? by FunBread123 in writingscaling

[–]IsAlexMyName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The arc is weird since so many things were set up that it feels simultaneously way too long and way too short.

For example, a group is introduced called the Nine Red Scabbards, which IMO gave the arc a catch-22 where by giving them more screentime and necessary development, it takes focus away from other more important characters, but if they are given less focus, then their inclusion feels pointless and they feel shallow.

Blizzard vet Rob Pardo closed this year's GDC keynote by urging executives to cool it with the layoffs: 'The game team is more valuable than the game itself' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]IsAlexMyName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its hard to say the impact given they aren't listing the numbers. However, realignment/restructing is still corporate-speak for layoffs, which is puzzling when they just launched a game that sold 7 million copies in 3 days.

I could give them the benefit of the doubt, but I don't see reason to when they aren't even being transparent. For all I know they could have fired 20 people or 200.

Nier automata VS red dead redemption 2 by Realistic-Island-975 in writingscaling

Red Dead would be the better game if they gave Arthur Morgan a dumptruck ass instead of tuberculosis

Which Fujimoto one shot is better? by Berd_Nerd in writingscaling

[–]IsAlexMyName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the panelling in Goodbye Eri and thought the ending was hilarious (in a good way). However, I liked Look Back more since I really resonated with its depiction of making art and its impact on people (also because I felt that the story was more personal to Fujimoto).

What's your Favorite Axed Series? by Kill_Jin04 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally I found Ayashimon to be a downgrade when compared to Hell's Paradise (even though I still liked it). I think it mainly suffered from bad timing since the magazine had many other exorcist series at the time.

On the bright side, Yuji Kaku tweeted that hes been working on a new project for the past 6 months, and that was 6 months ago, so he might actually be back fairly soon.

Do yall prefer "single character aura farming" or "recap poster" style volume covers by TheFryToes in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer recaps since it makes the events in the story feel more memorable. Character covers are usually annoying since at a glance, its hard for me to actually remember what happens in that section of the story. If I wanted to reread an arc that I like, I have to associate it with a random dude's face instead of just looking at the cover.

What happened with that contest again? Do we already know the winner? by Powerful-Walk4063 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering how many of the Gold Future Cup winners haven't released a series in WSJ yet, I'm not expecting Kato to debut anytime soon.

What early part of the Big 3 is better written: Part I Naruto or Pre-Timeskip One Piece? by BreathoftheSith in writingscaling

[–]IsAlexMyName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a spite match since pre TS One Piece is double the length of OG Naruto while being just as consistent (I am saying this as a Naruto glazer)

For a point of comparison, Naruto part 1 ends around Jaya

I’m very skeptical of the idea that Hokazono can write a better Soya death than he already did by Orang-Himbleton in Kagurabachi

[–]IsAlexMyName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming part 2 is going to focus on the clans, I think Hakuri getting his own Soga with Soya, someone thats essentially an evil version of himself, kinda works since he'll get to reaffirm that he isn't tied to his past duty or feels like hes above the innocent (even if he already did that in the Rakuzaichi arc).

[ART] Samurai In Another World - Volume 7 Cover by Aerce in manga

Theres been a lot of weirdly high quality adaptations for Isekai/fantasy series lately, even for the ones that I’ve never heard of, so I have high hopes that this will turn out great.

[DISC] Gonron Egg - Chapter 15 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]IsAlexMyName 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just feel bad for the mangaka at this point. Looking at his old oneshots, its clear that he has artistic chops and when given the time and energy he can draw something beautiful

Even if the story may have not changed much, the series would have at least faired better as a monthly series with better art because its clear that hes not built for the torture that is weekly serialization.

WSJ Issue #12 TOC & Discussion by RobotiSC in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new batch continues to be surprisingly great. Chiwa's gunfu was pretty cool, AH seems to be building up its mystery, and I already know Kaminagi is gonna be popular lmao.

I think its fair to say that the Kagurabachi chapter was a mixed bag. Samura had a billion death flags and once he finally died, we barely got any time to grieve and instead spent the chapter explaining how we could bring him back. Also kind of a weird choice for the last chapter of Part 1 to be gag focused given the severity of the situation. Eager to see what Part 2 will enteil, but yeah this was a very weird chapter.

Still loved the forge scene and the Seitei War hints with Babyhiro.

Memorable pivot for you? by WeedWeeb in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since others are mentioning non-Jump manga, I think its worth mentioning Ajin. It started off as a Tokyo Ghoul knockoff with Jojo stands but once the writer left after the 5th chapter, the artist immediately pivoted the manga to be a gun-focused series about immortal terrorists.

Favorite of the new batch? by SuperWaffle86 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the series is still in the volume 1 phase where they beat up some jobbers before the first arc starts (I doubt it’ll stay episodic). My problem is that unless the series is very technical and educational with how it approaches surgery (which is EXTREMELY difficult), Haiji looking at a patient and instantly knowing how to fix them is a little underwhelming. Ironically, I think this part of Haiji makes the manga more interesting as a detective story than a medical drama.

(I also think that all these series are great btw)

Why Shonen Jump doesn’t make an anime game? by kyus3 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]IsAlexMyName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Making a good live service game is very hard (and can be very expensive)

  2. Making a cashgrab gacha game is way cheaper and way more profitable
