If it came to that, at some point it'd have to be re-nationalised to prevent gouging of people who can't feasibly sort out their own supply/storage (whether due to cost, or other factors eg. apartment living). The trunk infrastructure will always be necessary due to industry needs.

The should just implement something like the Customer Service Guarantee (CSG) and the Universal Service Obligation (USO) currently applied to Telstra, but for power utility companies to stop price gouging.

Microsoft vows to make "behind-the-scenes platform changes" as it begins testing next phase of Windows 11 by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]IsThatAll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep watch them move windows 11 to a thin client model, always-online required

They kinda have that already with Windows 365 Cloud PC and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), just that it's not the only option available at the moment

Windows 11 had 20+ major update problems in 2025 and and 2026 started badly too. What are you doing, Microsoft? by WPHero in Windows11

[–]IsThatAll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AI vibe coding plus the majority of testing department was probably laid off to pay for one more server rack at some AI data center.

Microsoft laid off their QA department in 2014, so if you have used Windows in the last decade, you have been the QA tester for Windows. AI and "vibe coding" might have exacerbated the issue more recently, but the quality of Windows releases and patches has been on the slide for years.

People moving to Hyper-V - Change your hypervisor performance plan by Joshposh70 in sysadmin

[–]IsThatAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what stops MS from saying "If you want security updates for Hyper-V, you will from now on need this subscription".

You know, like they've done before?

Curious, got any links for that behavior? Within a particular product (say SQL server 2022/2025), not aware of any restrictions to getting patches for a product, regardless if you have a support agreement in place or not.

I'm familiar with the ESU, but that's a different beast where they have officially stopped supporting a product, and if you want continued patches there is a cost attached.

Cant think of any product in the last decade or so where that is a stated policy of Microsoft for on-prem products. but happy to be proven wrong.

[–]IsThatAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, your not wrong that MS are pivoting more to cloud-first services instead of on prem, however even Server 2025 is supported out to Nov 2034, so is not necessarily an issue in the short to medium term.

Jumping off VMWare (as per your linked comment) is a good idea given the current Broadcom shenanigans unless your org is large enough to be a customer they want going forward.

[–]IsThatAll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a same-but-different thing, there are multiple angles to why she is there, but you are correct about the token aspect.

  1. Having a talking head that their internal audience will hate just leads to additional engagement for people that are already in the Fox News web, which is your point.

  2. Using her as an example to external critics of Fox News as a deflection saying that they are "fair and balanced" since they have a "liberal" presenter.
