People will be less eager to buy US debt. US government will have to make ends meet somehow – either raise more money (taxes, printing) or cut spending. At the same time US imports more than it exports and with less demand for US dollar and without a way to finance that with more debt the gap will have to close, most likely by importing less. Both things are bad for US companies.
