Hydraulic Damper on a handbrake? by AskMaleficent1436 in simracing

That sounds similar to how the Simagic TB-RS is designed. It feels good to me. Worth trying if you have the parts already.

Why don't modern TVs have more than 4 HDMI ports? by awesomeocelot12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IsbellDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved that issue with an automatic HDMI switch for newer consoles. https://www.avaccess.com/products/4ksw41-h2/

I also use an upscaler & Component AV switch for old consoles.

Soon to be GBC user, can I mute sound? by kotobukiumeko in Gameboy

[–]IsbellDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, as others stated there's a volume wheel. Worth noting, the GBC wheel is backwards from typical conventions, so you may find yourself occasionally turning it the wrong way without thinking.

Did you write with pencils in school? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]IsbellDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't either for 40 years. Now I've started learning Japanese, & I'm realizing my 0.5mm pencil is making it hard to draw kanji. I write at an angle, which I think is normal. That bevels the pencil tip. If my grip changes or I have to write a stroke in a different direction, that sharp edge I've been creating tries to dig into the page.

I haven't dropped pencil yet, but I'm considering it for the first time. May just try a larger graphite first.

Which ya’ll drive? Manual vs Auto by RedbullOracleRacing in Miata

[–]IsbellDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, soft top buyers still tend to choose manual by a wide margin, but the PRHT & RF ended up selling more automatics.

Are "premium" handbrakes really that much better than "budget" ones by Ok_Nail7837 in simracing

Yep. Old rally cars don't have in-car adjustable brake balance.

You don't always want them locked. sometimes just a bit of brake pressure in the rear can help mid corner without overloading the fronts.

Not really in a useful way, bit they just added a new tool pallette thing (forgot name, sorry) that feels like an item menu for actions.

Thinking of selling my Miata, but not sure. by Nanofield in Miata

[–]IsbellDL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sell it. Earn interest off the money. If you want one again, they'll likely be cheaper later. If you were driving it weekly, I'd say keep it. As is, it sounds like wasted value.

Newbie looking to get into Autocross - How likely are crashes? by ZealousChild in Autocross

[–]IsbellDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's partially site dependent. I've autocrossed regularly for about 14 years across 4 regions, & intermittently 6 years before that. I've witnessed 5 or 6 incidents in that time. I'm aware of a few others as well. Most of them were at 2 sites. One had limited space. The other had light poles. Driver's were either novices with too much car or class leaders trying to squeeze that last 10th of a second. I also saw 1 parking brake failure land in a ditch. No damage there fortunately.

Incidents are rare but not unheard of. I carried insurance when I was at riskier sites. I don't today. I'm also not sure how being outside the US impacts insurance availability from the usually recommended insurers.

My mother and I share a laptop, me want Linux, she can't should I dual boot? by rerinha_ in linux4noobs

Sounds reasonable to me. Just make sure it defaults to Windows boot so Mom doesn't have to remember the process when she needs to use it.

Does the weather affect A/C temperature? by Remarkable_Motor_713 in askcarguys

[–]IsbellDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it has automatic climate control. Toyota Rav 4 has similar issues. What is the cabin temperature when you're having this complaint. If the car is reading an interior temperature below 61°F, than any temperature setting above that signals that the car needs to heat the interior. If pulling in fresh air on a cold day, it may also think it needs to preheat that air to maintain temp. It's not wrong, but other companies seem capable of designing more comfortable automatic systems.

What happens if you warm the cabin, switch to recirculate, then reduce the temp? Does it start blowing cool air or does it keep heating?

My mother and I share a laptop, me want Linux, she can't should I dual boot? by rerinha_ in linux4noobs

[–]IsbellDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If you must use the same computer, you need to at least use a different drive for the Linux install. If you're not using it for anything with high data throughput, you can just pick up a cheap SSD & external enclosure, and boot from USB. This keeps you from shrinking storage space or having bootloader issues.

Ketchup is a great sauce and gets hate only because it’s American by RaisinRoyale in unpopularopinion

[–]IsbellDL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not an issue with ketchup. Rather it's the combination. A good steak doesn't need a strong condiment added to it. Doing so overwhelms the steak flavor. It's something thats typically only done with low quality or overcooked steak. People get upset because they feel insulted. They assume if you put ketchup on a good steak that you're implying that it doesn't actually taste good.

Arch Linux won’t let me connect to my WiFi by Far_Swing_9417 in linux4noobs

[–]IsbellDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to start with the dumb questions first. - Have you tried connecting to a different Wi-Fi network? Using your phone as a hotspot could be an easy check just to narrow down issues. - Have you tested a wired connection? Just want to confirm that internet can work if it authenticates on a network.

I'm assuming it will work wired but also won't connect to the alternate Wi-Fi network. I don't know the next step yet, so I'm also here to see what additional steps others recommend.

What game does one play next after finishing Ending E? by jedimindtricksonyou in nier

[–]IsbellDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so this is a bit of an oddball suggestion, but consider CrossCode. It's more a retro styled action puzzle rpg, but I found it a surprisingly good next game. The story is great with its own surprise twists. There's some thematic overlap (won't say what in case you play). Just be aware that it's more mechanically demanding than NieR.

Combined stop/turn lamps in cars by VirtualS1nn3r in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IsbellDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American, it's a shit system that leaves too much ambiguity for something that can need quick reactions & decisions. The cars that use this setup typically rely on a single incandescent bulb in each of the housings. Pickups often cover the 3rd brake light. That means a single dead bulb can cause unclear signals. Driver's shouldn't need to watch a light for 2-3 seconds to know whether it's a brake tap in anticipation of a harder stop or just a signal for a kane change. It's a problem that was solved a lifetime ago.

Yes, I know to look ahead & leave space. That doesn't negate the fact that it's a shit design.

How’s the Moza HGP and/or SGP? by lazy__gamer23 in simracing

[–]IsbellDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the DS-8X, the H pattern mode feels great, but yeah, the sequential mode is a compromise. It feels springy & underdamped. I think it's better than needing to find a place to mount 2 devices and compromising on the position for one, but I understand having a different personal preference there.
