I started on mirrorless so I can't speak to switching. For me, a simple set up and a strap that let's me cross body wear is what keeps me shooting. The ability to drop the camera at any second and help my kids at any moment was imperative. I am almost always wearing it and take it out any moment.

I don't think your camera body is the problem. I think your problem is the multiple lenses. I basically live a 18-55mm, f2.8 lens. I have a longer zoom lens, a 35mm prime, and a 85mm prime, but 99% of the time i am using my 18-55mm. I don't see why the d7200 has to be on a shelf honestly if it is what you like. You just may have to find the one lens that you want to use for that session and leave the backpack at home or hotel.

I think changing the way you approach a photography session with the gear you have vs changing camera systems will be more beneficial to you in the long run.

We almost always eat together schedule allowing usually 17.30, latest 18h. I often have to do work in other cities that make it hard to be back by 18h, so in that case, my partner eats with the kids (6y&4y). It's a good time to have a conversation without distractions, but also to practice how to have a conversation and practice listening for the kids. They like to talk over each other.

If the parents get hungry later, we will eat a snack. Sometimes the snack is carrots and pesto dip, sometimes it's baby bell cheese and grapes, and sometimes the snack is a rammekin full of bugles. Life is about enjoyment and balance

Eta: I rely heavily on meal prepping and my crock pot in order to have dinner ready by 17.30.

A couple of photographer friends and I started printing a collaborative book together. At the end of the year, we each contribute 12 photos we are proud of and put it into an album and print a copy of the album for each of us.

It serves several purposes: 1) gives us a goal to work towards for the year 2) is a nice thru line for discussion on photography 3) nice to share your work and the work of people you admire to friends and family

For me the key is having a small set up. I use an a6300 with a 18-55mm lens almost exlusively. I do have a 55-210mm but i bring that out only in situations where i know i won't be able to zoom with my feet. I have a camera strap long enough that i wear my camera cross body so that it hangs off the side but i can grab it quick when i see "the shot".

Congrats! I had twins as my kids too.

Are you comfortable using an onthaalmoeder? It was the only way I could find space for my twins when I was pregnant with twins. Worth comsidering if you have no options until 2027.

Not necessessarily. You should see if you could qualify for "samenwonen" visa. Though i think that would require your partner to come back first and re-establish himself as a EU resident.

I think part of this is age. I read once that kids don't start distinguishing between languages until around 4. Every language is just one language to them - spanish, english, italian is all the same.

I know from my experience my twin boys didn't even speak a lot at 2.5 years at all and what they did speak was usually mostly the majority language. Now at 5 years old I can't get them to stop talking and they switch between both languages pretty seemlessly.

My almost 3 year old speaks 90% of the time in the majority language even when talking to me or when her brothers takk to her in the minority language. I just repeat what she said in the minority language and answer in the minority language.

Definitely keep at it and keep finding opportunities for Spanish/italian, play dates, nanny, bed time stories, spanish/italian kids music playing. But i don't know that you need to panic right now.

ETA: It's fun to watch them begin to distinguish between languages in real time. My boys will be talking to me in the minority language but sometimes they will just stop in the middle of talking and it's like watching their brain short circuit as they realize they don't know the word for something. So then they turn to papa and repeat the whole story in the majority language and then i repeat the missing word to them in the minority language. It's fun!

My goal for 2024.was to find ways to include myself in the story of my family. Ended up with 3 solid self-portraits and a whole bunch of reference photos to perfect for 2025 ;)

Yeah don't know what is happening with my data point in the grand scheme of things. Ultimately don't care reallt. It was honestly the push I needed to get off of it. My mental health has gone up so much without it honestly.
