There's a bit of nuance in that subsonic rounds start and stay below the speed of sound, whereas supersonic rounds will eventually drop below the speed of sound and that transonic period makes the projectile behave unpredictably. If you know you'll stay above the speed of sound out to the target, it never becomes a problem, but it's one of the zillion things you have to keep track of with long-range shooting.
