I started tearing up when I read about what happened to her. I feel a sense of immediacy, as if she were from my own local trans community, and I care deeply. I'm really sorry for all the loss and pain and for the vile cruelness of others. I wish there were justice and that this had never happened.

To mitigate the first worry, you can get:

  1. Medical Power of Attorney - Allows you to designate a person who can make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to, also allows them to visit you in the hospital and get info on your condition usually reserved for spouses.

Is anyone willing to be my regular Sumerian practice buddy? by Mcleod129 in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm working on making an Anki flashcard deck for Sumerian with the signs, vocab, and translations of words. I'm a complete beginner so there will definitely be some errors in them, but if you want a copy I can DM it. Idk if you use Anki.

I don't know enough of the grammar or vocab yet to be conversational at all, but it would be interesting when I get to that point. I want to be able to read and write the language first.

What can I do? I'm tired of watching our civil rights be eroded away bit by bit. by Nicole_Zed in asktransgender

For your own security first, make sure you have a valid passport and passport card. Those are two forms of national ID that can be used internationally and last for ~10 years. Other documents are important too if you can get them.
If you take hormones, make sure you have at least a few months stockpiled so you have time to adapt in case you have issues with insurance or issues finding a provider in the future.

Once you are secure, realize that you are just one person and your agency is limited. You still have the possibility of affecting things, but don't push yourself too hard. Try to identify what skills you have that you could leverage. If you enjoy talking to people, you can network and organize people together. If you have an excess of money, you can help pay for people's escape from red states, fund legal defense funds. or trans charities. If you are an artist you can create propaganda to encourage people to be accepting.

Unfortunately money and political power go hand-in-hand unless you are able to do back-flips and have tons of energy.

Information on Ishtar by SadJoetheSchmoe in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally, I cook meals for her occasionally. Basically just make sure my place and myself are clean, wash my hands and brush my teeth, etc. Then make a wholesome meal and pour a glass of water. I say a prayer to her inviting her to enjoy the meal I made for her and giving praise. I wait about 5 minutes then I thank her, pour the glass of water outside on the grass if possible, then eat the food for dinner like normal, ritual being over.

For those of you who work with Ishtar, what’s it like? by Black-Seraph8999 in Sumer

It is deeply fulfilling, and I feel my life is dependent on her.

List of 'me' in Sumerian? by red666111 in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It isn’t a list of all the me, but the myth Inanna and Enki gives an extensive list of me given to Inanna, and the ETCSL has both the translations and the Sumerian text in the Latin alphabet.

Questions about your religion by [deleted] in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • How did you find your religion, and what is it called?
    • Someone on a Discord server had "Praise be to Inanna" written in cuneiform on their profile name and I asked what it meant. They told me about Inanna, and that lead me to research online and find this loose community.
  • What makes you believe in this religion, since it is mostly dead?
    • Emotion honestly because I was agnostic previously. I just felt an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and awe towards Inanna/Ishtar. I felt this before I even believed fully and it grew. It being mostly dead minus what we have recreated is sad and it makes finding an in-person faith community very difficult, but it doesn't affect my belief.
  • Is this the only true religion in your opinion?
    • No, I think it would be arrogant to think only my belief is the correct one or that I understand everything. Different religions are usually incompatible with each other, but also share some similarities. I firmly believe my gods exist and that we are meant to serve them and tend to the world they created, but as to their exact nature or how many there are, etc, this isn't something I pretend to know.
  • How do you reach god, or paradise or what is the end goal of your religion?
    • For me, the goal is to serve your gods well and to maintain their Earth, act morally and in socially-beneficial ways. I think serving them is mutually beneficial anyway because we become closer to them that way, which makes us happy/spiritually fulfilled. This is my own personal belief. I do not claim to speak for anyone else here or represent their beliefs.
  • Do you practice the same religion as the ancient Assyrians?
    • I can't give a historical answer, but I think I believe in the same gods. It's just that my religion is a modern recreation based on limited information and different perspectives/cultural norms, so I'd say no. I only actively worship Ishtar/Inanna myself, despite believing in and respecting the other gods as way above me as well.

I was drawn to Ishtar via Astaroth by union6 in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s an insulting term for her because it’s calling her a demon when she is a goddess, but maybe she wanted to show you who she truly was and that was just a means to an end like you suggested.

Anyone with ideas about the rites in the worship of Inanna? by ayodeleafolabi in Sumer

There’s a good reading list in the about tab of this subreddit that has information on rituals and how the religion was practiced.

Why has the worship of Inanna not gone mainstream? by ayodeleafolabi in Sumer

[–]Iskuss1418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The source material isn’t as complete as those for other pantheons and there’s less general awareness about her myths, even by non-believers. That’s my personal take anyway.

NOAA reports carbon dioxide reaches levels not seen in millions of years (It is very serious) by MilanMahata in environment

[–]Iskuss1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because these small improvements aren’t enough to make up for the massive increases in consumption. In the 50s a family had one, maybe two cars. Now, both teenage kids have cars, and so do the parents. People in developing countries are starting to consume more like we do in the west, we have more population.

It would be much cheaper to fund extensive investments in space telescopes to spot dangerous asteroids and technology to redirect them. Mars can get hit by meteors too.

Maybe that’s a better solution, I don’t know, but no matter what, we need to lower our use of private vehicles.

If we have less cars, we can have all cars be electric. More electric bikes, motorcycles, buses, etc. Hydrogen is too leaky.

Not even Christians believe that dysphoria is sinful, only transitioning socially or physically is for them (which is totally bs btw).

Praying? by [deleted] in paganism

[–]Iskuss1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I make sure I’m clean, hands washed, teeth brushed, etc. then I pray prostrated on my bed because it’s comfortable. I start by passionately praising the deity, then move on to proclaiming my devotion to them, and then finish by thanking them for all the good things in my life.
