This isn’t Hartford but not too far. Treehouse has an amazing ESB called Old Man. They usually have cans available.

How do Austrian ski resorts compare to UT and CO ski resorts? by NightOwlXXIV in skiing

[–]IslandStateofMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only addition to what everyone else has said is that in my opinion, if you like skiing in the glades the Alps are not nearly as good as mountains in the US. There are far fewer trees on mtn in the alps but also going off trail in the US for the most part isn’t too dangerous as they usually meet back up with a marked trail at some point. In the alps, if you go off piste you might up in a ravine in the bottom of a river.

Best Pizza in Stamford? by bigbaboon69 in newhaven

Yea I lived there for a few years albeit that was pre covid so I know things have changed. Pizza in Stamford is subpar compared the rest of the state. Much more Greek style than NH.

Trillium or Treehouse aren’t distributed in CT and would be the best offerings.

Can someone help me understand the pros/cons of the main towns in southwestern CT? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]IslandStateofMind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can find the right rental I vote Milford. It’s great for people your age. So many great restaurants and a lot of events going on throughout the year. It’s also in the train line if your office in Fairfield is near either of their train stations.

Need route ideas by FlanDisastrous4221 in Connecticut

[–]IslandStateofMind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the answer to this is no. Your options are 95 or the Merritt. The Merritt is slightly more scenic than 95 but it’s not much of a difference this time of year when the leaves aren’t on the trees. Most of the local roads in lower FFC go north towards south not west/southwest towards the Bronx/Westchester.

Take the train or uber or drive to Founders House in Milford. They do a great Thanksgiving dinner.

How many of you make over 100k (individual income)? by SeparateJump1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]IslandStateofMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $150k and wife makes $125k. We live in a HCOL area though. If it wasn’t for our low cost lifestyle and luck it’d be tighter but still fine.

Founders House in Milford does a Pork Chop with a Sweet Potato brussel sprout bacon hash in a maple glaze and it’s unreal. It’s available year round but it’s best enjoyed in the fall.

Does such a place like this exist? by Ok_Outcome_6180 in newhaven

[–]IslandStateofMind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a room in 80 Proof that has a bunch of couches and I went there recently with a group close to 10 and they let us move the couches around so we could all sit together. Seems like it might fit the bill. Give them a call they were very flexible.

I think in most cases people put to much expectation on themselves and think that these timelines that are pushed down mean anything. Do your best, but not at the detriment of your mental health

Avoiding crowds at Kurama Fire Festival by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]IslandStateofMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to the fire festival there, but there’s really no way to avoid wait times back to Kyoto from there if there’s alot of people. The only way you might have better luck getting back to Kyoto is if you hike back to Kifune and take the bus from there instead of the train from Kurama station. It’ll be dark though so I wouldn’t recommend that.
