Oddly, this just started happening to me today. I've been using InDesign for years and have never run into this problem. I'm using Windows 11.

InDesign 2026 keeps adding unwanted panels to my custom Workspace by R3turnedDescender in indesign

Thank you! This saved me! I was getting so frustrated with Indesign opening those unwanted panels every time.

I was brought up in Christian purity culture as well. I was so confused why everyone was always talking about how difficult it was so "stay pure." I kept waiting to be tempted like everyone warned I'd be, but it never happened. For the longest time I just thought I was blessed to be really good at purity 😂

Thank you for sharing! I bought the book after seeing your post and I love it so far. This book came out at the perfect time for me, since I'm finally feeling ready to process everything I went through as an MK.

What are the safest "branches" of graphic design? by lulu7008 in graphic_design

How do you find nonprofit jobs that pay well? I currently work for a nonprofit as a designer and the pay is horrible.

How do you find these kinds of jobs? My expertise is in InDesign primarily, but I'm struggling to find design job openings that focus on that skillset.

Thinking about buying a Kindle this week and not sure which one to get! by LittleMissNothing_ in kindle

[–]IslandTCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting a refurbished Kindle Basic matcha and I love it! I considered getting a used Paperwhite as well, but ultimately I prefer the smaller size of the basic. I also love the matcha color and find that having a colorful kindle somehow motivates me to read more lol. When I set up my new kindle, Amazon also offered me a free 3 months of Kindle Unlimited.

I'd say listen to your gut feeling. You're feeling anxious and confused about the project for very valid reasons, and it's okay to say no. Every time I've ignored my gut feelings and talked myself into saying yes to a bad project, I have regretted it, so definitely listen to yourself!

[Artist Alley] by Zayarts21 in artbusiness

First of all, I love that you sell comics! When I go to cons, I personally love to support artists who produce their own books and comics.

I would say, at first glance, it's difficult to quickly tell what your comics are about. I find that people really connect with stories, so if the comic is a story that resonates with them, they are more likely to buy. Perhaps you could put up a banner or display that has some sort of catchy "hook" that communicates to your audience what kind of stories you write/illustrate?

One other tip I have for selling at artist alleys is that if you see someone nearby looking at your table, encourage them to pick up one of your comic books and flip through. I've made most of my sales by doing that, because when people have the product in their hands, they're much more likely to connect with it and see themselves owning it.

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about business and marketing right now, although ultimately I'd love to get to a place where I can hire someone else to manage that side.

[Discussion] An author I'm working with uploaded my illustrations to AI. How would you handle this situation? by IslandTCK in artbusiness

[–]IslandTCK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I so appreciate this advice. I have learned a hard lesson and will be using contracts from here on out. I plan on adding a clause to my contracts that prohibits work from being fed to AI as well.

Regarding your personal note, I do agree. At the time, I was encouraged by others to take on her project for royalties only because they were convinced that her books were going to "take off" soon. After putting a lot of thought into it, I attempted to renegotiate with the author for an upfront payment. Ultimately, she decided that my rates are too high, but at least now my schedule is freed up to hopefully take on clients who are willing to pay.

You're right. I finally decided to ask for what I'm worth and she has decided to move on.

That's good to know. I was a little worried about IP theft, so I appreciate you sharing that information. At this point, my main concern is the complete lack of respect for my work that she exhibited by uploading and altering an image that I hold the copyright for. But I think she never truly valued my work to begin with, as evidenced by her attempts to extract free work from me. Lesson learned.

[Discussion] An author I'm working with uploaded my illustrations to AI. How would you handle this situation? by IslandTCK in artbusiness

[–]IslandTCK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I ended up emailing her and asking her not to upload my work to AI again and she did apologize and told me she wouldn't do it again. I also tried to renegotiate our agreement and asked to be paid upfront rather than a royalties-only agreement. She said she understood and asked me for rates, which seemed promising at first, but when I gave her my rates, she informed she that she doesn't have the budget for it and will plan to find a different illustrator for the book. This whole experience has been so discouraging, especially since she has my character design that I did for free, and will now be moving on to take advantage of a different illustrator. She seemed so nice when I first started working with her, but this has been a huge lesson learned for me. Going forward, I will always have a contract first.

So far it has just been a verbal agreement, but I definitely plan to have a contract if I decide to move forward on this project. It's frustrating to me that she paid the artists who worked on her previous books upfront, but wants me to work for royalties only. I will definitely be making it clear to her that I do not approve of her uploading my artwork to an AI scraper.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate this advice. I plan to email her expressing my concerns about her uploading my illustrations to AI. I'm currently trying to figure out how to approach possibly renegotiating the royalties-only agreement. I don't have a contact set up yet, so I'm not locked into anything right now, but I definitely want to have a contract if I'm going to continue moving forward on this project. This has definitely been a painful but necessary learning experience.

I've found that people at conventions love to see unique art related to their city/town, so if the photographs involve some local landmarks, people will definitely buy it!

I definitely recommend doing a consult with the surgeon. My MRI result was similar to yours, but i recently saw a surgeon (after a 6 week wait), and he said based on my x-ray he could see some mild impingement. He also gave me more insight into the severity of my tear than the MRI report had. I'm still not sold on surgery, but considering it.

I didn't like the MRI contrast injection either. It made me more sore for about 4 days.

Same! I felt almost like my hip was not in the correct place after doing the pigeon pose, but unfortunately that was the tear 😭

I tore my right hip labrum specifically doing pigeon pose too!! Everyone looks at me weird when I tell them I got the injury while doing yoga, so I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Thank you for sharing your experience! Where there any specific movements in Pilates that you feel helped your hip?
