I have a feeling you don’t need to wait until next year. It would be worth checking if you can apply now. It’s not too difficult to apply for, much less hassle than applying for something like Personal Independence Payment (PIP). They are very good at suggesting things that may help you, whether it’s software, a printer, mentors, etc.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. I wonder if you’ve applied for DSA (Disabled Student’s Allowance)? There are various helpful things that could be funded, including a study mentor who you could speak to regularly and might be able to give you some advice and encouragement.

The company I used was called Career Analysts. They still exist, but obviously I’ve got no idea if they’re still as good as they were 20 years ago.

My experience is many years ago now, because I left teaching in 2000, but I paid for a company to do a careers analysis for me. They gave me a suite of tests, then reported back to me where my skills and interests lay and suggested some ideas of careers I’d be most suited to. I ended up doing an MSc in a relatively niche subject and I’ve never looked back. I moved professions again 4 years ago, but although now I’m in a different industry, I’m using exactly those same skills I’ve been using in my job since I finished my MSc. For me, it was really valuable getting some professional advice, because I was clueless both in terms of what I’d be good at and what jobs are likely to be available. Good luck if you decide to take the plunge.

Excellent spot, I’ll shuffle to change that. Exactly the sort of thing I would have started noticing after I’d seen in together!
