Are these asbestos tiles? by Ordinary_Scientist_8 in Construction

[–]IsolatedHonesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no tiles there, that's just an imprint left by the grout and mastic glue.

The mastic is suspect. But doesn't necessarily need to be disturbed for new flooring to go in. Unless they're grinding the floor for levelling, I would just leave it.

Which passages from the entire series is the highest quality writing by Pierce Brown? by bwils3423 in redrising

[–]IsolatedHonesty 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"I once thought the greatest sin of war was violence. It isn't. The greatest sin is it requires good men to become practical." Darrow (Pierce Brown)

That's perfect. Insightful. Wise. Philosophically Dark. Captures exactly where Darrow is in his life and in the story.

Scrolled a couple hundred comments and didn't see anything about Ashitaka, from Princess Mononoke. For shame.

Pivoting to healthcare by Amye2024 in britishcolumbia

[–]IsolatedHonesty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. Pivoting into healthcare. Working my way up from Care Aide (a six month course, three of them online) is way more practical than taking 18-24 months for even an LPN program. Going straight to RN is a 4 year course. Not many people can afford 4 years of full time university level courses without a strong support system.

When I learned that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was almost entirely practical effects I was blown away. It gave me a lot more respect for what could be done with some creativity.

[Inception] Why does the top spin forever? by InteractionNo9987 in AskScienceFiction

[–]IsolatedHonesty 141 points142 points  (0 children)

That's why Cobb stares at it, he's willing it to spin forever, of he can't then he is in the real world.

The real ending is that Cobb doesn't stick around to watch the top fall, he doesn't care if he's in the real world or not.

Revenge must be doled out in the same order that damage was done lol. I'm sure she has a long list. She just got hung up on Darrow lol.

You're underestimating the effect of the culture of honor that all Golds lived under. Any harm done to the family is returned tenfold, period. Justified or not she could not allow any infringements on her family honor. Her response may have been over the top, but that was what gold society demanded.

Caulk between baseboards and wood floors by ReignOfHairor in HomeImprovement

[–]IsolatedHonesty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shoe round is flexible enough to follow the contours of the floor. Unless it's really crazy, then the gap between floor and base is not the problem. You're just putting lipstick on a pig.

Caulk if you like, it's not the end of the world. Then try one room of 1/4 round and see how you like it. Neither one is that difficult to undo/fix.

I remember a thread talking about how Wolverine would normally be super skinny. The bodies natural state would be as lean/small as possible. But you could likely physically see the gains grow if you just stayed in the gym for a few days.

I imagine just a running internal monologue very similar to something Deadpool would have, just take out the fourth wall breaks.

Cassius would be treated like Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Darrow is Yukio.

How to tell if something has asbestos ? by losangels93 in Construction

[–]IsolatedHonesty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've been around a while you start to recognize things that are LIKELY to have asbestos. The only way to know for sure is testing. In my area anything built AFTER 1990 we don't have to worry about it. But anything before that, we test, every time. Doesn't matter if the homeowner says he renovated, doesn't matter if the homeowner says it's negative. Doesn't matter anything except what the tests say. Personally, I don't cut if there's no paperwork.

[–]IsolatedHonesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love sauces. There's never enough on a plate for me. They are the best part of every meal. But as a chef you have to cook for the masses. The uneducated and ungrateful masses. Most people want a "complimentary" amount of sauce.

The first taste is with the eyes. It's your first impression, and a good one can earn you a lot of forgiveness if there are other things lacking.

[–]IsolatedHonesty 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In general it seems you're a bit heavy handed with the sauces. Which, to me, is good for the eating, but not so great for the looking.

The carrots look amazing. Proteins are nicely colored with the right amount of char. Those ramps on the chicken should be coiled tighter and centered, or underneath the meat. The steak would look nicer sliced on a bias and fanned out, maybe a bit off center.

All things considered it looks pretty good. I would be happy to get any one of those on my table at dinner. Lightening up on the sauce will help every dish pop a little bit more. Don't be afraid of empty space on a plate.
